Epidemiological data on the conditions of oral health are essential for professionals in the health care plan, execute and evaluate dental programs. In Brazil, most oral health programs directs its resources to middle schools, leaving the preschool children in a secondary plan. The objective of this study was to identify the prevalence of dental caries in preschool children from 4-6 years of age from schools of child education (EMEIs) of the city of Araçatuba-SP. The study was conducted on a sample of 275 children of both genders, representative of the population of preschool children in the city of Araçatuba-SP. In order to assess the prevalence and severity of dental caries indices we used the dmft and DMFT indexes, according to the codes and standards recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).The average dmft of 1.88 was found, comprising 78% of decayed teeth, 21% of restaured teeth and 1% with indicated extraction teeth. Regarding the permanent dentition, the average DMFT was 0.08, consisting of 71% of decayed teeth, 29% restored and 0% of missing teeth. Based on results found, there was a high caries prevalence in deciduous and permanent teeth, demonstrating the need for more dental care to the group studied.

The aim of this research was to study dental caries and the image of infant about dentists. Were selected randomly, 92 students from a two publics schools and 88 from a two privates schools, in the city of Araçatuba, São Paulo State. The children to answer a questionnaire composed of 13 questions and to make a drawing to represent a dental caries. The results were accomplished by using the statistical analyses “ Qui-square “ test and the “ Fisher “ test. The drawings were analyzed by a specialist psychologist. We concluded that the image about the dentist, for the children, is highly favorable and most of them know what it is the dental caries and how it is caused.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dental caries prevalence and the use and needs of dental prosthetic in pregnant women attending in the National Health System in northwestern city of São Paulo state. The sample involved women, between 3 and 9 months of gestation, who were taking prenatal care in Health Units. Those who consented (n = 119) were examined and interviewed by calibrated dentists. We used the DMF-T index and indicators of the use and needs of dental prosthetic. The average age of the pregnant women was 24.7 years, the majority brown (48.7%) with complete high school (60.5%). The average DMFT was 11.7 and 25.2% and 46.2% of them require upper and lower prosthesis, respectively. The oral health indices showed a high DMT-F and great need for dental prostheses. The results show the need for actions directed, with the aim of to improve the specialized attention to the health of mothers and their babies.

Fluoridation of water for human consumption is a method of caries prevention that brings great social benefit, if kept at optimal levels. The increase in the production of bottled water emphasizes the need to verify whether fluoride presence in these waters occurs in sufficient quantity to prevent decay, or if it represents a significant risk of fluorosis. Objective: to compare the concentrations of fluoride present in bottled water to those declared on the labels, and to make a critical analysis of legal norms on the subject. Materials and method: this was a cross-sectional study, through which 22 samples of bottled water sold in state of Ceará, Brazil, were analyzed. Analyses were performed in duplicate by the electrometric method, and results were compared to those printed on the labels. Detailed searches by laws, resolutions, ordinances, and other official documents in force, related to the topic were performed. Results: the fluoride concentrations found ranged from 0.01 to 0.36 mgF/l. Although 72.7% of the samples were classified as fluoridated, the fluoride concentrations observed were shown to be insufficient for caries prevention. As for the rules, situations where they are not clear or even divergent were found. Conclusion: the current legislation on the subject requires updates to become more objective and to create new criteria on the use of the term “fluoridated water”.

The design of oral health has as its most important to bring knowledge, prevention and treatment for the population of municipalities that have this important means of promoting health in general. These programs are based on socio-educational projects, such as tooth brushing, educational lectures, projects, preventive and, fluoride use, application of sealants in pits and even the prevention of oral cancer. In the area of healing, the centers of dental specialties (CEO) associated with the PSF are responsible for implementing treatment of periodontal diseases, trauma, restoration of teeth affected by dental caries, prosthesis design for functional rehabilitation of the patient, biopsies of oral lesions , among other specialties. This study aims to evaluate the students of the Graduate Program in Dentistry, Universidade Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho, Campus de Araçatuba, in order to coordinate a program to promote health in their communities. The result based on parameters in the OMS showed that the majority of graduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry Araçatuba acquired knowledge to a reasonable oral health program in their city as a coordinator.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of 124 non-carious cervical lesion restorations at 12 months. Materials And Methods: Three study groups were formed according to the material and technique used. All teeth received 37% phosphoric acid etching in enamel and dentin. The teeth of Group I received the conventional adhesive system Scotch Bond Multi Purpose, followed by resin composite Filtek Z350; teeth of Group II were restored with resin-modified glass-ionomer cement Fuji II LC; teeth of Group III were restored with the same resin-modified glass-ionomer cement however, before it was inserted, 2 coats of primer of the Scotch Bond Multi Purpose adhesive system were applied to dentinal tissue. The teeth were evaluated by 2 examiners with regard to the factors of retention, marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, color alteration, presence of marginal caries lesion, anatomic shape, and sensitivity. Results: Application of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed no statistically significant difference for anatomic shape, marginal discoloration, color alteration, caries lesion, marginal adaptation, and sensitivity among the three study groups, but the variable retention presented statistically significant difference at 12 months, with Group III presenting a behavior superior to that of Group II but similar to that of Group I. Conclusion: The analyzed restorations of non-carious cervical lesions presented a good clinical performance at 12 months.

Objectives: to evaluate implant survival immediately placed after tooth extraction considering different sites, prosthodontic modalities, and the need for biomaterials. Material and methods: dental records of 500 patients treated with dental implants between 2004 and 2011 were screened. Results: only 200 records (20%) corresponded to immediate implants. Reasons for tooth extraction included extensive caries, bone loss, and root fractures. From the 197 immediate dental implants, 86 were placed in the maxilla with a survival rate of 93.9% and 111 in the mandible (survival rate of 99.1%). The overall survival rate was 97.46%. Prosthodontic modalities identified were: Brånemark classic complete denture screwed prostheses (36%), overdentures (5.6%), fixed partial denture (31%), and single-tooth prostheses (27.4%). Also, it was observed that in 33% of cases there was a need for the use of grafts and/or biomaterials. Conclusion: it can be concluded that, when correctly indicated, immediate implants are an excellent choice. The anterior mandibular region, screwed and overdenture-type prostheses presented higher success rates when associated to immediate implant placement. The need for bone graft/biomaterial does not affect the clinical results.
