The cyclopalladated complex [Pd(C2,N-dmba)(μ-SCN)]2, where dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine, was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/n with a = 9.578(1)Å, b = 12.323(2)Å, c = 10.279(2)Å, β = 117.03(1)°, V = 1080.7(3)Å3, Z = 2. Each Pd(II) center displays a distorted square-planar coordination environment, formed by the C and N atoms from the dmba ligand, and one set of N and S atoms from the bridging SCN groups. 2009 © The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry.

Complexes of the type [PdX(PPh3)(1)]X [1 = 4-phenyl-3- thiosemicarbazide; X = Cl- (2), Br- (3), I- (4), and SCN- (5)] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and IR, UV/Vis, and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structure of complex 4 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The binding of the complexes with a purine base (guanosine) was investigated by 1H NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, which showed the complexes to coordinate to guanosine through N7. A gel electrophoresis assay demonstrated the ability of 2-5 to cleave DNA plasmid. All the complexes were tested in vitro by means of the MTT assay for their cytotoxicity against two murine cell lines, LM3 (mammary adenocarcinoma) and LP07 (lung adenocarcinoma), and compared with cisplatin. Complexes 2-5 exhibited good cytotoxicity that surpasses that of cisplatin in the case of LM3. A series of thiosemicarbazide/phosphane palladium(II) complexes have been synthesized and fully characterized. These complexes are able to cleave DNA plasmid and show cytotoxicity against adenocarcinoma (mammary LM3 and lung LP07), surpassing the cytotoxicity of cisplatin in the case of LM3. Palladium(II) complexes are an important class of cyclopalladated compounds that play a pivotal role in various pharmaceutical applications. Here, we investigated the antitumour, anti-infl ammatory, and mutagenic effects of two complexes: [Pd(dmba)(Cl)tu] (1) and [Pd(dmba)(N3)tu] (2) (dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine and tu = thiourea), on Ehrlich ascites tumour (EAT) cells and peritoneal exudate cells (PECs) from mice bearing solid Ehrlich tumour. The cytotoxic effects of the complexes on EAT cells and PECs were assessed using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-3-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The effects of the complexes on the immune system were assessed based on the production of nitric oxide (NO) (Griess assay) and tumour necrosis factor-Į (TNF-Į), interleukin-12 (IL-12), and interleukin-10 (IL-10) (ELISA). Finally the mutagenic activity was assessed by the Ames test using the Salmonella typhimurium strain TA 98. Cisplatin was used as a standard. The IC50 ranges for the growth inhibition of EAT cells and PECs were found to be (72.8 ± 3.23) µM and (137.65 ± 0.22) µM for 1 and (39.7 ± 0.30) µM and (146.51 ± 2.67) µM for 2, respectively. The production of NO, IL-12, and TNF-Į, but not IL-10, was induced by both complexes and cisplatin. The complexes showed no mutagenicity in vitro, unlike cisplatin, which was mutagenic in the strain. These results indicate that the complexes are not mutagenic and have potential immunological and antitumour activities. These properties make them promising alternatives to cisplatin.

This work describes the synthesis, characterization, and the thermal behavior investigation of four palladium(II) complexes with general formulae [PdX(2)(mba)(2)], in which mba = N-methylbenzylamine and X = OAc(-) (1), Cl(-) (2), Br(-) (3) or I(-) (4). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared vibrational spectroscopy, and (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance. The stoichiometry of the complexes was established by means of elemental analysis and thermogravimetry (TG). TG/DTA curves showed that the thermodecomposition of the four complexes occurred in 3-4 steps, leading to metallic palladium as final residue. The palladium content found in all curves was in agreement with the mass percentages calculated for the complexes. The following thermal stability sequence was found: 3 > 2 > 4 > 1. The geometry optimization of 1, 2, 3, and 4, calculated using the DFT/B3LYP method, yielded a slightly distorted square planar environment around the Pd(II) ion made by two anionic groups and two nitrogen atoms from the mba ligand (N1 and N2), in a trans-relationship.

Two cis-related palladium(II) complexes [PdCl(2)(PPh(3))(tu)] (1) and [PdCl(2)(tmen)] (2) {PPh(3) = triphenylphosphine, tu = thiourea, tmen = N,N,N,N-tetramethylethylenediamine} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopies, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, N-H center dot center dot center dot Cl hydrogen bonds are responsible for the formation of a dimer which connects to an adjacent one through weak C-H center dot center dot center dot Cl interactions, yielding 1D tapes. The crystal packing of compound 2 consists of zigzag ribbons of [PdCl(2)(tmen)] self-assembled by C-H center dot center dot center dot Cl hydrogen bonds which also holds the chains together, giving rise to a 2D layered structure. This paper describes the preparation of thin titanium films via sol-gel route and their subsequent chemical modification by anchoring with 2-aminothiazole ligand and Pd(II) ion sorption, aiming to maximize the photocatalytic activity. The material was characterized by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, ultraviolet and visible spectrometry, X-ray diffractometry, and scanning electronic microscopy. The amount of palladium adsorbed on the film's surface, determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry, showed a value of 2.69 x 10(16) atoms CM-2. The photocatalytic tests indicated that the functionalization with 2-aminothiazole and the adsorption of palladium (II) were determinants in the semiconductor's enhanced photocatalytic activity. A new platinum(II) complex with deoxyalliin was synthesized and characterized by chemical and spectroscopic techniques. Elemental and mass spectrometry analyses of the solid complex fit to the composition [Pt(C6H11NO2S)Cl-2] center dot H2O. C-13 NMR, N-15 NMR and infrared spectra of the complex are consistent with coordination of deoxyalliin to Pt( II) through the nitrogen and sulfur atoms forming a square-planar geometry. The complex is soluble in dimethylsulfoxide. Biological analysis for evaluation of a potential cytotoxic effect of the complex was performed using HeLa cells, a human cervix adenocarcinoma-derived cell line. The results were compared with those of a palladium( II) complex previously described.

The low-weight Pd(II) coordination polymers [(N(3))(HL)Pd {Pd(3)(mu-N(3))(mu-L)(5)}10(mu-L)(2)Pd(L)(HL)]{L = Pz(-) (1); mPz(-) (2), IPz(-)(3)} and [(N(3))(HPz)Pd{Pd(6)(mu-N(3))(2)(mu-PZ)(5)(mu-L)(5)}(10)(mu-L)(2)Pd(Pz)(HPz)] {L = mPz(-) (4), dmPz(-) (5); IPz(-) (6)} {L = pyrazolate (Pz(-)), 4-methylpyrazolate(mPz(-)), 4-iodopyrazo late (IPz(-)), 3,5-dimethylpyrazolate (dmPz(-))} have been prepared in this work. IR spectra clearly indicated the exobidentate nature of pyrazolato ligands as well the end-on coordination mode of the azido group. The molecular weight determinations by osmometry indicated that the species have a low degree of polymerization (n = 10). NMR experiments showed two pyrazolate environments in a 2:1 ratio, being assigned to the six-membered ring Pd(mu-L)(2)Pd and the Pd(mu-N(3))(mu-L)Pd metallocycle, respectively. UV-visible spectroscopy gave further evidences for the oligomeric structures of 1-6. Some alternative structures for the isostructural polymers have been suggested. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
