SrSnO3 was synthesized by the polymeric precursor method with elimination of carbon in oxygen atmosphere at 250 A degrees C for 24 h. The powder precursors were characterized by TG/DTA and high temperature X-ray diffraction (HTXRD). After calcination at 500, 600 and 700 A degrees C for 2 h, samples were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and Rietveld refinement of the XRD patterns for samples calcined at 900, 1,000 and 1,100 A degrees C. During thermal treatment of the powder precursor ester combustion was followed by carbonate decomposition and perovskite crystallization. No phase transition was observed as usually presented in literature for SrSnO3 that had only a rearrangement of SnO6 polyhedra.

Results of crystal structure refinements and phase quantification for samples of Co-doped lanthanum chromites with nominal composition LaCr(1-x)Co(x)O(3), for x=0.00, 0.10, 0.20, and 0.30, prepared by combustion synthesis are presented. The resulting powders were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The XRD patterns were obtained with Cu K alpha radiation for non-doped lanthanum chromite sample and additionally with Cr K alpha radiation for Co-doped lanthanum chromites samples, in order to enhance the signal from scattering. Rietveld analysis of XRD data showed that the studied samples presented the lanthanum chromite with an orthorhombic structure (Pnma), except for the composition with x=0.30, in which the space group was found to be R (3) over barc. Perovskite type oxides have been intensively studied due to their interesting optical, electrical, and catalytic properties. Among perovskites the alkaline earth stannates stand out, being strontium stannates (SrSnO3) the most important material in ceramic technology among them due to their wide application as dielectric component. SrSnO3 has also been applied as stable capacitor and humidity sensor. In the present work, SrSnO3:Cu was synthesized by polymeric precursor method and heat treated at 700, 800, and 900 A degrees C for 4 h. After that, the material was characterized by thermal analysis (TG/DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy. Results indicated three thermal decomposition steps and confirmed the presence of strontium carbonate and Cu2+ reduction to Cu+ at higher dopant amounts. XRD patterns indicated that the perovskite crystallization started at 700 A degrees C with strontiatite (SrCO3) and cassiterite (SnO2) as intermediate phases, disappearing at higher temperatures. The amount of secondary phase was reduced with the increase in the Cu concentration.

In this work, spinels with the general formula Zn2-xCoxTiO4 were synthesized by the polymeric precursor method and thermally treated at 1,000 A degrees C. The powder precursors were characterized by TG/DTA. A decrease in the DTA peak temperature with the amount of zinc was observed. After the thermal treatment, the characterizations were performed by XRD, IR, colorimetry and UV/VIS spectroscopy. The XRD patterns of all the samples showed the presence of the spinel phase. Infrared spectroscopy showed the presence of ester complexes for Zn2TiO4 after thermal treatment at 500 A degrees C, which disappeared after cobalt addition, indicating that organic material elimination was favored.

Cobalt oxides, specially the ones with perovskite structure, are of a high technological interest, due to their interesting optical, electrical and magnetic properties. La(1 -x)Ca(x)CoO(3) powder samples were synthesized by the polymeric precursor method, with x varying from 0 to 0.4. The powder precursors were characterized by TG/DTA, XRD and IR. The TG curves showed several thermal decomposition steps; the first one is ascribed to the loss of water and the remaining steps are related to the combustion of the organic matter. The XRD patterns indicated only the presence of the perovskite phase. Moreover, the structure changes from rhombohedral to cubic, as calcium is added to the perovskite and the calcination temperature increases.
