According to the Informational Society of the twentieth century, man develops society of the spectacle, where life becomes virtual and the individual ceases to be a spectator becoming the protagonist of wikiciberepopéia and organizations seeking to gain the attention and time of its consumers through new communication strategies. If the great epics of mankind brought mythical heroes, divine, with powers (mostly above the mortals), in the era of new technologies, the common man is in the hands the opportunity to become the hero of his own ciberepopéia. Increasingly resistant to traditional advertising, the new model of media consumer, the prosumer, the storytelling is transforming into one of the main communication tools of contemporary organizations. Offer your audience a creative and relevant content across several media platforms is a major brand positioning strategies currently used, in addition to providing the transmission of values and organizational principles in a subjective manner. Storytelling where objects are extensions of the human body (eg, the cell can be treated as an extension of the ears) is a strong indication of a technocratic society, because we can consider the new technologies as extensions of the human brain (as new store technologies, create meanings, share information through a specific language) and the individual who is on the edge of new technology ends up being excluded from certain social events. This new world tends to put an end to separation between seemingly contrary ideas, such as reality/fiction, natural/cultural and the man who emerges from this medium is not the creator, but rather, transforming what already exists. Televisão analógica e televisão digital: o futuro do telejornalismo

This study proposes to present the process of implementation of Digital TV, the available resources found in the Japanese standard employed in the country and the form in which news programs will adapt to the new technology. Following the presentation of the technological tools, the current state of Brazilian television is discussed, focusing on two nationally broadcast programs, Jornal da Band on Bandeirantes channel and Jornal da Record on Record channel. As a case study, three editions of each show are evaluated with an individual and comparative analysis. Following the analyses, perspectives on the future of television journalism in the digital TV age are given. Additionally, the possibilities for interaction between the TV viewer and the channel and the forms of interaction that may exist within particular programs are discussed, thus allowing for active participation from the part of the viewer. The newly developed functions of journalists in the digital age are also broken down in the research. In order to gain a full understanding of the phases of this process of technological convergence and how programs will adapt to these tools, interviews with professionals who work in the production of televised news programs are conducted in the study

Over the last few years, new technologies have been developed to making cavity preparations, among which the diamond burs CVDentus® (CVDentus, São José dos Campos, Brazil) are outstanding. These points are produced by chemical deposition from the vapor phase, forming a single diamond stone, with greater durability than the conventional diamond burs. Coupled to the ultrasound appliance, they have several clinical applications in Dentistry with advantages over conventional rotary instruments, such as lower pressure, noise, vibration and heat, as well as reducing the need to use local anesthesia, contributing to minimize patient’s fear and anxiety. The aim of this study was to present the complete restorative dental treatment performed with this system in a child patient with a prior history of non-cooperative behavior. The use of this new technology offered the patient greater comfort, making it possible recondition the patient’s attitude to dental treatment, in addition to favoring conservative cavity preparations to be made.

Estúdio Ghibli: um aparato sobre as técnicas ilustrativas e filosofia oriental dos principais longas metragens de Hayao Miyazaki

In front of the vast and widespread use of new technology in 3D animation currently, this research aims to give an overview adjacent to major film productions with Studio Ghibli and its main director/animator: Hayao Miyazaki. Showing up as an interesting exception to worldwide success, the Ghibli feature films are made with the predominance of 2D hand-drawn art. Its process dates back to the first animations created in the early twentieth century, though such tools have been “overcome” by big studios like Walt Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks, the works of Miyazaki still get considerable highlight, preferring the pencil and paper than the computer. With the aid of some authors in particular as McCloud and the founders of Anima Mundi, and other theorists of design and subjective philosophy, some analyzes are mapped to better understand the connection between the work of Miyazaki and his contribution to the field of illustration and originality as a whole. The objective is to find the key points of Ghibli animations which will drive new parameters between creativity, illustration and Western and Eastern praxis.

Estudo do grau de modernização e mecanização nas obras de construção civil: estudo de caso - cidade de Lorena

This paper had as emphasis the study of the mechanization and modernization of the construction job sites of the city of Lorena located in the Vale do Paraíba, São Paulo. From the literature review on this topic, it was possible to understand the main causes of the delay in the job sites relating to the new technology available. The research on the history of construction and equipment evolution, along with interviews with workers, engineers and architects, it was possible to analyze the current situation. Integration in new product development: Case study in a large Brazilian high-technology company

Proficiency in management activities undertaken in product development processes is regarded as a key competitive advantage for companies, particularly for high-tech industrial firms, which benefit from the important competitiveness factor of launching products with a differentiated technological content. This paper's objective was to identify, through case study, practices for integration between the roles of R & D with others involved in product development in a large Brazilian company of industrial automation. The results suggest some management practices to improve the integration in new products development, such as the use of employees from marketing with knowledge and experience previously gained from R & D activities and uses the heavyweight product manager to solve synchronization problems between product and technology development. © Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Facultad de Economía y Negocios.

Identifying problems for choosing suitable areas for installation of a new landfill through GIS technology: A case study

Selecting a suitable place to install a new landfill is a hard work. Bauru is a Brazilian municipality where the local landfill currently in use has a life span that is almost over, and the selection of a new area for a future landfill is crucial and urgent. Here we use a geographic information system (GIS) approach to indicate possible suitable areas for installing the landfill. The considered criteria were: river network and the respective buffer zone, relief, urban areas and their respective buffer zone, existence of Areas for Environmental Protection (AEPs), occurrence of wells and their respective buffer zones, existence of airports and their buffer zones, wind direction, and the road network and its respective buffer zone. Due the facts that (1) Bauru has an urban area relatively large in relation to whole municipal area, (2) Bauru has two airports, and (3) this area encompasses parts of three AEPs, the model showed that there are few areas suitable and moderately suitable in Bauru, and the greater part of the municipality is unsuitable to install a new landfill. Due to this important finding reported here, the local policymakers should consider the suitable or even moderately suitable areas for analysis in situ or look for other creative solutions for destination of the solid waste. We highly encourage the use of GIS in studies that seek suitable areas for future landfills, having found that SIG was a tool that allowed fast and precise work and generated an outcome sufficiently clear of interpretation.Implications: Solid waste (SW) management is one of the main environmental concerns nowadays. Landfilling SW is still the main practice to disposal of such material. However, for many regions, suitable places for landfilling are getting scarce. This study proved this situation for a populous place in a southeastern Brazilian region. This study also showed how the decision makers should manage the problem in order to minimize the amount of SW generated and delivered for the landfill. Massive investment in education is a critical issue to reach the proposed aim.

New product development in brazilian technology-based small and medium enterprises

This article examines new product development (NPD) in small and medium-sized Brazilian enterprises (SMEs) in two technology-based industries: medical devices and process control automation devices. A conceptual model that categorizes factors that contribute to the success of a new product was established. The data were collected from a sample of 62 Brazilian SMEs. The conceptual model was tested to examine the relationships between NPD practices and new product success. Data analysis reveals that new product success in medical device companies is related to organizational characteristics such as NPD proficiency and marketing skills; while in process control automation device companies, they deal in a large degree with product differentiation, innovation and capability to analyze the targeted market. Due to the relatively small sample size, caution should be exercised when interpreting the results.
