This study aimed to evaluate the yield potential of different varieties of sugarcane under drip irrigation in two growth cycles. A trial was set up in October 2006 at Jaú region (São Paulo state, Brazil), in an experimental field with a eutrophic Ultisol. The experiment was conducted in randomized complete blocks with factorial treatment structure 8 x 2, constituted by eight sugarcane varieties and two crop cycles, with six replicates. Stalk productivity (TCH), sugar productivity (TPH), juice quality traits and water use efficiency in relation to stalk productivity were evaluated in each crop cycle. It was observed that varieties of sugarcane respond differently to full irrigation, and this response is influenced by climatic conditions of the agricultural year. In this study, only the first evaluation cycle (plant cane) was decisive to differentiate the performance among the varieties. The varieties IAC91-1099, IACSP96-3060, RB855536, RB867515 and SP85-1115 showed higher agro-industrial yield potential and less consumption of water and can be recommended for the management of production under drip irrigation.

In today's competitive environment of automakers, it is essential to obtain the highest efficiency of the production process. This paper presents a study in a pre-assembly of brake pipes and fuel of a vehicle where the value stream maps and information (VSM – Value Stream Mapping) were designed in order to improve the process by reducing the Lead Time Production of a product, reducing waste and decrease time between processes. This work can be divided into three stages, the first building the VSM of the initial state, the second VSM of the proposed state and finally the VSM than was actually performed and to present the gains were achieved effectively. The proposed VSM would lead to a gain of 54% in lead time and 61% in processing time, since the VSM implemented had gains of 47% in lead time and 48% in processing time even without major investments as originally proposed. Concluding that even without big investment, using the techniques of lean manufacturing is possible to achieve high levels of process efficiency

Much has been discussed lately about reusing waste in new construction materials and countless studies have been carried out based on this objective. However, before these products can be called “sustainable” and a recycling system can be effectively implemented, it is fundamental for all the aspects involved in this action to be understood, and more important, what are the true gains for the productive sector and what are the benefits for the environment if this was to occur. In order to obtain a general framework for all environmental aspects and potential impacts associated with these products, over their entire life cycle, the most appropriate methodology is the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). In view of the above, the objective of this work is to provide an overview of current studies of LCA, its history, its importance, its standards and the methodology employed and its applications related to civil construction. It is expected, to obtain a more complete scenario of the influences from a study of LCA, as well as establishing a contribution for the assessment of specific products and processes for civil construction, disseminating the importance of the use of this tool within the sector.

With the objective of gathering technical data about soybean cultivars performance in Botucatu, state of São Paulo, Brazil, an experiment was conducted to evaluate seventeen genotypes. The experiment was conducted during the Summer seasons of 2002/03, 2003/04, and 2004/05. The experiment was set in the field according to a complete block design with four repetitions. The soybean cultivars were ‘Embrapa 48’, ‘BRS 132’. ‘BRS 183’, ‘BRS 212’, ‘IAC 22’, and ‘IAC 23’ (early cycled varieties), ‘BRS 133’, ‘BRS 154’, ‘BRS 156’, ‘BRS 184’, ‘BRS 214’, ‘IAC 18’, and ‘IAC 24’ ( semi early varieties), and ‘BRS 134’, ‘BRS 215’, ‘IAC 8.2’, and ‘IAC 19’ (medium cycled varieties ). All the varieties, during the three cropping years, showed adequate plant height and first pod height of insertion for mechanical harvest. Among the production components, mass of 100 grains showed the highest variability. Cultivar ‘BRS 154’ (medium cycle) showed the highest variation in mass of 100 grains and was also the highest yielding variety in the cropping year of 2004/05. The majority of the cultivars yielded above 3,000 kg ha -1 during the cropping years of 2002/03 and 2004/05. The best yielding performance during the three cropping years were displayed by cultivars ‘IAC 22’ (early cycle), ‘BRS 133’ and ‘BRS 156’ ( both semi early cycled varieties).
