Nanoparticle synthesis of La1-xSrxMnO3 (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) perovskites

Synthesis of La1-xSrxMnO3 (x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) by homogenous coprecipitation method using urea as precipitant agent Is reported. The particles are smaller than 200 nm after heating at 950 degreesC. Temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity was found to be similar to the reported value for single crystals of these manganites.

In situ solid state oxidation reaction for La1-xSrxMnO3 (x=0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) formation

In situ solid state oxidation reaction for an alternative La1-xSrxMnO3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) formation is reported. Samples have been obtained by using strontium peroxide, lanthanum and manganese (III) oxide reagents. Strontium peroxide has induced the oxidation of Mn+3 to Mn+4. Lanthanum strontium-doped manganite was obtained without secondary phase formation. La0.825Sr0.175MnO3 showed two structural transitions. The first from 88 to 373 K and the second at 1073 K. which are explained by Jahn-Teller effect at low temperature and cation displacement at high temperature. (C) 2001 Elsevier B.V. B.V. Search for the flavor-changing neutral current decay Bs 0 → μ+ μ- pp̄ Collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV with the DO Detector

We present the results of a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decay Bs 0 → μ+ μ-. using a data set with integrated luminosity of 240 pb-1 of pp̄ collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector in run II of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We find the upper limit on the branching fraction to be B(Bs 0 → μ+ π-) ≤ 5.0 × 10-7 at the 95% C.L. assuming no contributions from the decay Bd 0 → μ+ μ- in the signal region. This limit is the most stringent upper bound on the branching fraction Bs 0 → μ+ μ- to date. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Spin and pseudospin symmetries and the equivalent spectra of relativistic spin-1/2 and spin-0 particles

We show that the conditions which originate the spin and pseudospin symmetries in the Dirac equation are the same that produce equivalent energy spectra of relativistic spin-1/2 and spin-0 particles in the presence of vector and scalar potentials. The conclusions do not depend on the particular shapes of the potentials and can be important in different fields of physics. When both scalar and vector potentials are spherical, these conditions for isospectrality imply that the spin-orbit and Darwin terms of either the upper component or the lower component of the Dirac spinor vanish, making it equivalent, as far as energy is concerned, to a spin-0 state. In this case, besides energy, a scalar particle will also have the same orbital angular momentum as the (conserved) orbital angular momentum of either the upper or lower component of the corresponding spin-1/2 particle. Measurement of the Λb0 lifetime in the exclusive decay Λb0→J/ψΛ0 in pp̄ collisions at √s=1.96TeV

We measure the Λb0 lifetime in the fully reconstructed decay Λb0→J/ψΛ0 using 10.4fb -1 of pp̄ collisions collected with the D0 detector at √s=1.96TeV. The lifetime of the topologically similar decay channel B0→J/ψKS0 is also measured. We obtain τ(Λb0)=1.303±0.075(stat)±0.035(syst)ps and τ(B0)=1.508±0.025(stat)±0.043(syst)ps. Using these measurements, we determine the lifetime ratio of τ(Λb0)/τ(B0)=0. 864±0.052(stat)±0.033(syst). © 2012 American Physical Society.

Ferromagnetism and superconductivity in CeFeAs 1-xP xO (0≤x≤40)

We report on superconductivity in CeFeAs 1-xP xO and the possible coexistence with Ce ferromagnetism (FM) in a small homogeneity range around x=30% with ordering temperatures of T SC≅T C≅4 K. The antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering temperature of Fe at this critical concentration is suppressed to TNFe≈40 K and does not shift to lower temperatures with a further increase of the P concentration. Therefore, a quantum-critical-point scenario with TNFe→0 K which is widely discussed for the iron based superconductors can be excluded for this alloy series. Surprisingly, thermal expansion and x-ray powder diffraction indicate the absence of an orthorhombic distortion despite clear evidence for short-range AFM Fe ordering from muon-spin-rotation measurements. Furthermore, we discovered the formation of a sharp electron spin resonance signal unambiguously connected with the emergence of FM ordering. © 2012 American Physical Society.

The CND-Goiaba 1.0 software for nutritional diagnosis of guava (Psidium guajava L.) 'Paluma', in Brazil

Computer programs enable the transformation of raw data into useful information for decision making in many fields, including agriculture. Various programs have been developed to assist farmers to make better decisions about crop management practices and plant nutrition parameters. This article introduces the CND-Goiaba 1.0 software (C Sharp) and its use as a tool to perform the mathematical calculations involved in determining the compositional nutrient diagnosis (CND) indexes for the guava tree. This program was developed in Brazil, the world's leading producer of red guavas. A database was created based on 205 leaf samples collected in commercial plots (sampling units) of cultivated 'Paluma' guava trees (Psidium guajava L.) with ages between 5 and 20 years, during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 growing seasons. The production data were normally distributed according to the Shapiro-Wilk test (W=0.988; p=0.11). The software made it possible to diagnose that 63% of the orchards evaluated needed to improve the nutritional status of their trees. The CND method showed severe nutritional imbalances in Mg and Zn in these orchards. © ISHS.

Search for supersymmetry in final states with missing transverse energy and 0, 1, 2, or ≥3 b-quark jets in 7 TeV pp collisions using the variable α T

A search for supersymmetry in final states with jets and missing transverse energy is performed in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=7 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. In this search, a dimensionless kinematic variable, α T, is used as the main discriminator between events with genuine and misreconstructed missing transverse energy. The search is performed in a signal region that is binned in the scalar sum of the transverse energy of jets and the number of jets identified as originating from a bottom quark. No excess of events over the standard model expectation is found. Exclusion limits are set in the parameter space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, and also in simplified models, with a special emphasis on compressed spectra and third-generation scenarios.[Figure not available: see fulltext.] © 2013 CERN for the benefit of the CMS Collaboration.

Palatoplastia com biomembrana natural de látex com polilisina 0,1% em cães com defeito palatino experimentalmente induzido

The palatoplasty is a correction surgery to restore the isolation between the oral and nasal cavity, avoid breath of food. There are many techniques to repair palatal defects, and the most used is mucoperiosteal flap. Grafts and prothesis, can be used too. Scientific works with Natural Latex Biomembrane with 0,1% Polylisine reveals properties like biocompatibility, improve and accelerate the cicatricial process, the stimulation of new vessels and organized tissue growth in different organs. Seven dogs were arranged in two groups and were submitted to experimental hard palate cleft. Five dogs received palatal repair with the natural latex biomembrane with 0,1% polylisine. Two animals did not receive any repair (control group) and the defect healing by second intention. After surgery, the groups were observed macroscopically and clinically to evaluate the results. The healling of cleft palate of group I was faster than control group, and this fact suggests that the biomembrane is an accelerator factor for cicatricial process.

Stable singularities of co-rank one quasi homogeneous map germs from (ℂn+1, 0) to (ℂn, 0), n = 2, 3

In this article, we investigate the geometry of quasi homogeneous corank one finitely determined map germs from (ℂn+1, 0) to (ℂn, 0) with n = 2, 3. We give a complete description, in terms of the weights and degrees, of the invariants that are associated to all stable singularities which appear in the discriminant of such map germs. The first class of invariants which we study are the isolated singularities, called 0-stable singularities because they are the 0-dimensional singularities. First, we give a formula to compute the number of An points which appear in any stable deformation of a quasi homogeneous co-rank one map germ from (ℂn+1, 0) to (ℂn, 0) with n = 2, 3. To get such a formula, we apply the Hilbert's syzygy theorem to determine the graded free resolution given by the syzygy modules of the associated iterated Jacobian ideal. Then we show how to obtain the other 0-stable singularities, these isolated singularities are formed by multiple points and here we use the relation among them and the Fitting ideals of the discriminant. For n = 2, there exists only the germ of double points set and for n = 3 there are the triple points, named points A1,1,1 and the normal crossing between a germ of a cuspidal edge and a germ of a plane, named A2,1. For n = 3, there appear also the one-dimensional singularities, which are of two types: germs of cuspidal edges or germs of double points curves. For these singularities, we show how to compute the polar multiplicities and also the local Euler obstruction at the origin in terms of the weights and degrees. © 2013 Pushpa Publishing House.

Morphotropic phase boundary and electrical properties of 1-x[Bi 0.5Na0.5]TiO3 -xBa[Zr0.25Ti 0.75]O3 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics

Lead-free solid solutions (1-x)Bi0.5Na0.5TiO 3 (BNT)-xBaZr0.25Ti0.75O3 (BZT) (x=0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07) were prepared by the solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld refinement analyses of 1-x(BNT)-x(BZT) solid solution ceramic were employed to study the structure of these systems. A morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) between rhombohedral and cubic structures occured at the composition x=0.05. Raman spectroscopy exhibited a splitting of the (TO3) mode at x=0.05 and confirmed the presence of MPB region. Scanning electron microcopy (SEM) images showed a change in the grain shape with the increase of BZT into the BNT matrix lattice. The temperature dependent dielectric study showed a gradual increase in dielectric constant up to x=0.05 and then decrease with further increase in BZT content. Maximum coercive field, remanent polarization and high piezoelectric constant were observed at x=0.05. Both the structural and electrical properties show that the solid solution has an MPB around x=0.05. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.
