Accidents represent a major public health problem as they are frequent, preventable, and account for high morbidity and mortality rates. Children are the most vulnerable to accidents due to their inherent characteristics, and as a result of their physical, sensorial, psychomotor and cognitive limitations, which will only develop with time. Watchfulness and careful attention are of paramount importance, especially as children develop locomotor skills that are accompanied by curiosity about their surroundings. Child accidents, particularly those that could have been avoided, are the accidents most commonly seen in emergency and urgency departments. Urgency and emergency departments are the greatest allies in the attention to pediatric accidents as they offer adequate, immediate and specific high complexity care to patients at risk, viewing their vital stabilization. Investigating the causes and consequences of this insult is essential to establish a diagnosis and to contribute for the adoption of measures of prevention, control, and assistance. To identify the epidemiologic characteristics of the accidents involving children that received care at the pediatric emergency department of Botucatu Medical School Hospital and required hospitalization. This quantitative, retrospective, descriptiveanalytic epidemiologic study included all children aged 0-14 years who had had an accident and were seen at the Pediatric Emergency Department of Botucatu Medical School Hospital of São Paulo State University/UNESP between January 1/2008 and December 31/2009. A total of 227 medical charts were reviewed and 178 (78.4%) patients were included in this study. Of these, 116 (65.1%) were males and 62 (34.8%) were females. Children aged 5 - 9 years (38.9%) were the most affected, followed by those aged 10 - 14 years (37.5%). Fractures occurred in 138 (77.5%) of the cases, followed by foreign bodies... A pesquisa atuou no Centro de Habilitação Princesa Victoria- CHIPV, que é uma unidade de saúde cujo objetivo é atender crianças e adolescentes de 0 a 18 anos que possuem alguma deficiência física e ou sensorial. A pesquisa teve o objetivo de acompanhar as práticas vivenciadas pelos profissionais, a partir de uma formação que tratou a temática de sexualidade e relações de gênero, ministrada por pesquisadores da UNESP. A pesquisa se debruça em observar, acompanhar, perceber, problematizar e avaliar o quanto à formação continuada dentro do CHIPV (Centro de Habilitação Princesa Victoria), pode transformar as práticas dos adolescentes, o foco desta pesquisa, gerando mais possibilidades de vivencias, entendimento e outros olhares sobre a questão da sexualidade e deficiência, e como esta se desdobrará no cotidiano

A Shantala é uma técnica de massagem milenar realizada em bebês, descoberta pelo médico francês Frederick Leboyer quando fazia uma visita pela Índia. Popularmente é conhecida devido aos seus benefícios como a tranquilidade, a afetividade entre mãe e filho e o fortalecimento do vínculo entre eles. Através dela farei uma breve apresentação de sua origem e seus métodos, buscando apresentar a afetividade na infância, as principais teorias que perfazem a relação psíquica e motora no primeiro ano de vida, abordando o sistema sensorial e as interfaces com a pele, musculatura e linguagem corporal. The teaching of hearing physiology requires an knowledge integration of Human Anatomy, Biophysics, more precisely Bioacoustics and Bioelectrogenesis, as well as Neurophysiology. Students present difficulty to build knowledge about functional mechanisms of sound conduction and sensory transduction, especially if the elements are not visible forms, as the middle and inner ear structures. To make the teaching about hearing physiology and sensory perception easier, was produced a set of didactical materials about the subject. At first, a resin model that faithfully describes the anatomical relationship of the ossicles with the tympanic membrane was developed. Subsequently, a second model that, besides illustrates the mechanism of acoustic impedance overcoming, also reveals how acoustic sensorial transduction occurs in inner ear, was designed and produced. In the third didactical model, are visualized, through students interaction, areas of the cerebral cortex that interpret the different sensory modalities. In addition, were created three educational videos about hearing problems and a site on Human Hearing Physiology, available on Institute of Biosciences website. The Prato cheese is the second most consumed cheese in Brazil. It is produced by milk enzymatic coagulation, and maturated for at least 25 days; it is classified as fatty cheese and of medium moisture. Due to the concern to health, the cheeses consumers have been seeking for products with low fat contents; however fat is essential for providing desirable sensory and physiologic characteristics, such as flavor, softness and texture to cheeses. Alterations on the technological processing of low fat cheeses have been made seeking for improved products, and the use of proteolytic enzymes has been a significant strategy. The meltability, color and sensory characteristics are fundamental quality indicators of the final products. This study reports the findings from the analyses on the physical and sensory characteristics of low fat Prato cheese with addition of proteolytic enzyme – fastuosain, that is extracted from unripe gravata fruit. The addition of fastuosain improved the quality of the product, as this additive neither affected the meltability, nor produced bitterness, which is a common unpleasant taste in low fat cheeses.

This paper reports the data on the cuiabana sausage historical aspect, and from the study performed on its technical/sensory characteristics. Four formulations of cuiabana-type sausage were prepared, varying the basic raw material (bovine, chicken and swine meats). For processing these sausages, the raw meats (beef, chicken and pork) were cut into cubes and together with the other ingredients (garlic, cheese, pepper and chives) they were weighed and homogenized. The resulting mixture was refrigerated for 24 hours for intensifying the flavor. Thereafter, it was stuffed into natural casings. These prepared samples were characterized on the physical-chemical profile and on the shelf life under refrigeration for over a seven day-storage in order to assess the microbiological contamination (total coliforms and fecal thermotolerant bacteria), sulphite-reducing clostridium, Salmonella spp., coagulase-positive Staphylococcus), and pH. The sensory evaluation and statistics analysis were carried out on the different types of laboratory- processed cuiabana sausage. Introducing over time changes in the cuiabana sausages formulation are positive factors; therefore, variations in the formulations it is feasible to get a better final product than that original one, and it might be resulted from the market demand.

Within Textual-interactive Grammar, discourse markers are defined through a particular combination of linguistic features. One of them concerns the interactive role of discourse markers, and it is called “basic orientation of interaction”. As other authors have shown, this feature applies to expressions that play the following functions: Checking, Feedback, Injunction or Initiation. In this paper, we try to demonstrate that the feature under consideration also applies to Vocatives.

The noteworthy of this study is to predict seven quality parameters for beef samples using time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance (TD-NMR) relaxometry data and multivariate models. Samples from 61 Bonsmara heifers were separated into five groups based on genetic (breeding composition) and feed system (grain and grass feed). Seven sample parameters were analyzed by reference methods; among them, three sensorial parameters, flavor, juiciness and tenderness and four physicochemical parameters, cooking loss, fat and moisture content and instrumental tenderness using Warner Bratzler shear force (WBSF). The raw beef samples of the same animals were analyzed by TD-NMR relaxometry using Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) and Continuous Wave-Free Precession (CWFP) sequences. Regression models computed by partial least squares (PLS) chemometric technique using CPMG and CWFP data and the results of the classical analysis were constructed. The results allowed for the prediction of aforementioned seven properties. The predictive ability of the method was evaluated using the root mean square error (RMSE) for the calibration (RMSEC) and validation (RMSEP) data sets. The reference and predicted values showed no significant differences at a 95% confidence level.

Introduction: Aortic insufficiency (AoI), a volume overload, is characterized by the diastolic reflux of blood from the regurgitating aorta to the left ventricle. This effect results from malfunctioning aortic cusps. The main cause of AoI in developing countries is rheumatic fever, including Brazil, and valvar degeneration in developed countries. There is a strong association between cardiovascular diseases and depression. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) are one of the most prescribed antidepressants in the world. Previous studies of our laboratory showed that the utilization of a SSRI, paroxetine, improved cardiac function in rats with sub-chronic AoI and reduced the daily ingestion of hypertonic sodium (NaCl 0,3M). Cardiovascular diseases can determine behavior changes like increase of anxiety, and it is yet unknown if AoI would determine anxiety or anhedonia, incapacity of obtaining pleasure through physical or sensorial experiences. A possible target for SSRI action could be a change in the expression of enzyme isoforms that collaborate in the contractile function of the heart muscle, like the heavy chains of myosine, the sarcoplasmatic reticulum Ca2+/ATPase (SERCA) and its regulator protein, phospholamban (PLB). Objectives: Evaluation of behavior parameters for anxiety and anhedonia state and genic expression of a-myosine, b-myosine, SERCA2a and PLB in the heart tissue of rats with subchronic AoI that received treatment with an SSRI (paroxetine) for 4 weeks. Methods: Surgery to induce AoI was performed on male Wistar rats, anxiety was evaluated by the elevated plus-maze (EPM) and state of anhedonia was tested by ingestion of 2% sucrose solution. After euthanasia the heart tissue was collected and total RNA was extracted to be analyzed by the RT-qPCR method. Dentre as várias espécies de café, Coffea arabica L. destaca-se pela sua ampla importância comercial relacionada ao consumo da bebida e à produção de óleo. O grão de café possui grande quantidade de compostos fenólicos bioativos - destacando-se os com atividade antioxidante e fotoprotetora - e após a extração do óleo há sobra de grande quantidade de subprodutos, denominado torta. O objetivo desse trabalho é produzir um extrato a partir da torta de café selecionando o melhor solvente extrator, avaliando o teor de compostos fenólicos e o potencial antioxidante, para o emprego como ativo cosmético em formulações desenvolvidas, com análise in vitro para quantificação do Fator de Proteção Solar (FPS) dessas. Os extratos foram previamente produzidos por sonicação utilizando solventes de diferentes polaridades, e o extrato escolhido foi produzido em maior escala por maceração e realizado também extração exaustiva com o solvente escolhido (extrato etanólico 70%, v/v). Na determinação do teor de fenólicos totais foi utilizado o método com o reagente Folin-Ciocalteu. Foi avaliado também o rendimento (m/m) dos extratos e atividade antioxidante pelo método do radical DPPH. O extrato apresentou boa atividade antioxidante e alto teor de compostos fenólicos em comparação com outras plantas consideradas referências nessas propriedades. Para o preparo das formulações foram utilizados matérias primas aprovadas pela ANVISA, e as quantidades dos filtros solares químicos empregados para obtenção de Fator de Proteção Solar (FPS) teórico próximo de 30, utilizou-se como ferramenta o BASF - Sunscreen Simulator. As formulas desenvolvidas e preparadas foram analisadas com o equipamento Optometrics SPF 290S, capaz de fazer a determinação do FPS por análise in vitro. A cachaça é uma bebida exclusivamente brasileira que vem conquistando espaço no mercado dentre as bebidas alcoólicas destiladas. Porém, o Brasil é responsável pelo consumo de 99% do total produzido por ano e apenas 1% é exportado. Isso se deve à falta de padronização na produção e de conhecimento por parte dos produtores, que levam a contaminação por compostos indesejáveis produzindo uma bebida de baixa qualidade, tanto físico-química quanto sensorialmente. Os métodos de redestilação e filtração em carvão ativado vêm sendo alternativas para melhoria da qualidade. Amostras de cachaças foram submetidas a esses métodos e avaliadas quanto à composição química e a qualidade sensorial. As análises químicas de acidez volátil, aldeídos, ésteres, metanol, álcoois superiores e carbamato de etila foram realizadas em triplicatas utilizando cromatografia gasosa. Para a análise sensorial, as amostras foram submetidas ao Teste de Aceitação utilizando escala hedônica híbrida de nove pontos e avaliadas pelo Teste de Kruskal-Wallis. Foi aplicado também o Teste de Ordenação para avaliar a preferência entre as amostras e a Intenção de Compra foi avaliada utilizando-se uma escala de cinco pontos, de certamente não compraria a certamente compraria. A redestilação reduziu os níveis de acidez volátil, cobre e carbamato de etila enquanto a filtração diminuiu as concentrações de aldeídos e ésteres. Os processos de redestilação e filtração em carvão ativado não alteraram a aceitação da bebida, mantendo seu perfil sensorial e melhoraram a composição química.
