In this study, biomembrane of natural latex was utilized to replace a section of the stomach wall of New Zealand rabbits, adult and non-castrated males (n=12), in order to evaluate the tissue repair process in regards to its biocompatility, scar formation ability and possible complications. The animals were euthanized at fifteen, 30 and 60 days post operation, by use of sodium thiopental (200mg kg-1), followed by macroscopic and histopathological analysis of the implant interface with the native tissue. Macroscopically, at fifteen, 30, and 60 days post operation adherence was observed in the serosal wall. At 60 days post operation, the biomembrane is not in the stomach. Under light microscopy, at fifteen and 30 days, discontinuity of muscle layer and mucosa layer, and presence of polimorfonuclear population of inflammatory cells was observed. New vessels and muscle fibers were observed. At 60 days, the mucosa and muscle layers were complete reconstituted. The implants were biocompatible and had provided the mainframe for orientation and development of the tissue layers through repairing processes, thus reestablishing the organ structure.

The present study aimed at evaluating the productive performance of Leporinus macrocephalus fed with different levels of inclusion of poultry viscera meal replacing fish meal. The experiment was conducted in a stove located in the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná during 45 days. We used 200 fish with average initial length of 4.7 ± 0.37 cm and average initial weight of 1.407 ± 0.03 g, distributed in 20 net-cages. The experimental design was randomized with five treatments and five replicates with five levels of replacement of fish meal by poultry viscera meal (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%). The parameters evaluated were the productive performance and the chemical composition of animals. The inclusion of poultry viscera meal in the substitution of fish meal in the feeding of Leporinus macrocephalus can be used without impairing the performance of the animals.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the anesthetic effect of clove oil and benzocaine on the hematology and osmotic fragility of erythrocytes in tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum). Thirty adult fish were evaluated in three treatments: a control, without anesthetic; anesthesia with clove oil at 50 mg L-1; and anesthesia with benzocaine at 100 mg L-1. Blood was collected for hemogram determination, and a test for the erithrocyte osmotic-fragility was applied. The utilized doses of clove oil and benzocaine are not appropriate for hematologic studies to establish reference values for tambaqui because they cause significant changes of the hematologic parameters, such as leukocytosis and iatrogenic hemolysis.

This research had as objective to evaluate the effect of extrusion temperature and screw speed on physical and rheological properties, as well as, the sensory acceptance of cassava and passion fruit snacks produced in single-screw extruder. A central composite design with 11 treatments was used, considering as dependent variables: expansion index (EI), specific volume (SV), water solubility index (WSI), water absorption index (WAI), color (L*, a*, b*) and pasting properties (RVA). The products were flavored and analyzed for global acceptance. The results showed significant effects of temperature and screw speed on the dependent variables. The chocolate flavored snacks obtained good acceptance.
