Canine Distemper is a contagious, severe and multisystemic disease caused by a virus from Morbillivírus genus. The virus is distributed worldwide and it presents a high lethality rate, affecting mainly dogs. The diagnosis is based on clinical signs associated with hematological fi ndings. The observation of Lentz bodies in erythrocytes and leukocytes is the defi nitive diagnosis for the disease. The aim of this work was to test the hypothesis that the hematological profi le in dogs positive for canine distemper differs according to blood cell type presenting Lentz bodies. For this purpose, 25 dogs positive for the disease were evaluated at the Veterinary Hospital “Luís Quintiliano de Oliveira” UNESP, Araçatuba city. The diagnosis was based on the observation of Lentz bodies in blood smears. Fromthe total, 64% of dogs presented anemia, 16% leucopenia and 12% leukocytosis. Lymphopenia occurred in 76% of dogs. Viral inclusions were observed solely in neutrophils (32%), lymphocytes (28%) and erythrocytes (12%). Concomitant observation occurred in lymphocytes and erythrocytes (4 %), in lymphocytes and neutrophils (12%), in neutrophils and monocytes (4%) and in neutrophils and erythrocytes (4%). In an isolated case Lentz bodies were observed simultaneously in neuthrophils, monocytes and lymphocytes. In conclusion, hematological profi le is not associated with the presence of viral inclusion in a particular cell type.

Fluoridation of water for human consumption is a method of caries prevention that brings great social benefit, if kept at optimal levels. The increase in the production of bottled water emphasizes the need to verify whether fluoride presence in these waters occurs in sufficient quantity to prevent decay, or if it represents a significant risk of fluorosis. Objective: to compare the concentrations of fluoride present in bottled water to those declared on the labels, and to make a critical analysis of legal norms on the subject. Materials and method: this was a cross-sectional study, through which 22 samples of bottled water sold in state of Ceará, Brazil, were analyzed. Analyses were performed in duplicate by the electrometric method, and results were compared to those printed on the labels. Detailed searches by laws, resolutions, ordinances, and other official documents in force, related to the topic were performed. Results: the fluoride concentrations found ranged from 0.01 to 0.36 mgF/l. Although 72.7% of the samples were classified as fluoridated, the fluoride concentrations observed were shown to be insufficient for caries prevention. As for the rules, situations where they are not clear or even divergent were found. Conclusion: the current legislation on the subject requires updates to become more objective and to create new criteria on the use of the term “fluoridated water”.

Currently has few studies today concerning the behavior of the ethyl alcohol hydrated combustible in the geological environment, results of eventual spill or leaks in a wide transport chain and distribution. This work discusses the results of an experiment in laboratorial scale, that involves the monitoring of alterations in physical properties a simulate leak of alcohol in a tank with sand saturated in water, during 4920 hours. Are applied electrical resistivity, induced polarization and spontaneous potential geophysical methods. The electric resistivity is clearly correlating to the ethanol degradation pattern. The chargeability demonstrated sensibility to this pattern, while the natural electric potential revealed direct association with the oscillations of groundwater level. The variability of the physical parameters monitoring probable control for ethanol degradation process in environment study.

The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate in the casuistry on class and systems frequently diagnosed in wild animals that were sent to the FMVZ–UNESP-Botucatu diagnostic imaging service. The class of birds was the most referred to the centers, followed by the mammals and reptiles. The majority of the requested tests were the radiographs and in a minor scale the tomography and ultrasound. Although the birds were the greatest number of animals sent to the service, mammals were the most radiographed for wound control. The most frequently observed system was the musculoskeletal caused by trauma, especially in birds. The radiograph was the most exam initially indicated, then the animal could be forwarded to other imaging modalities, which in wild animals medicine is still limited to research.
