We study the associated production of Z and standard model Higgs bosons in high energy gamma gamma collisions with the photons originating from Compton laser backscattering. According to our results, within the framework of the standard model, this process will give rise only to very few events for a yearly integrated luminosity of 10 fb(-1), even at very high energies.

We examine a recently proposed connection constraining U(1)(em) electromagnetic gauge invariance and the nature of neutrino mass terms in the framework of G(0) = SU(3)(C) x G(W) x U(1)(N) gauge extensions of the standard model where G(W) denotes the weak isospin special unitary extended groups. We show that in a large class of G(0) models there is a unique fermion representation content and scalar fields which select the neutrino mass terms. Noteworthy. even though there are mathematically equivalent representation contents then can be different aspects concerning the physical consequences which are not a mere truism.

We analyze the process e+ e- --> e+ e- gamma-gamma --> e+ e- l+ l- (l = e, mu, tau-leptons) considering several nonstandard contributions in order to search for new physics beyond the standard model. We are able to test compositeness up to the TeV mass scale at LEP II and CLIC energies.

Extensions of the standard model with N Higgs doublets are simple extensions presenting a rich mathematical structure. An underlying Minkowski structure emerges from the study of both variable space and parameter space. The former can be completely parametrized in terms of two future lightlike Minkowski vectors with spatial parts forming an angle whose cosine is -(N-1)(-1). For the parameter space, the Minkowski parametrization enables one to impose sufficient conditions for bounded below potentials, characterize certain classes of local minima, and distinguish charge breaking vacua from neutral vacua. A particular class of neutral minima presents a degenerate mass spectrum for the physical charged Higgs bosons.

We analyse the current data on tau-lepton decays and show that they are consistent with the standard model.

Aluminum doped zinc oxide polycrystalline thin films (AZO) were prepared by sol-gel dip-coating process. The sol was prepared from an ethanolic solution of zinc acetate using lithium hydroxide or succinic acid as hydrolytic catalyst. The quantity of aluminum in the sol was varied from 1 to 10 mol%. The structural characteristics studied by X-ray diffractometry were complemented by resistivity measurements and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. The films are transparent from the near ultraviolet to the near infrared, presenting an absorption cut-off at almost 290 nm, irrespective of the nature of the catalyst and doping level. The best conductors were obtained for the AZO films containing 3 mol% of aluminum, prepared under acidic and basic catalysis and sintered at 450 degreesC. Their optical band-gap of 4.4 eV calculated from the absorption cut-off is larger than the values for band-gap widening predicted by the standard model for polar semiconductors. These polycrystalline films are textured with preferential orientation of grains along the wurtzite c-axis or the (100) direction. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

We study the constraints on masses and mixing angles imposed by the measured Z0 invisible width, in a model in which a singlet right-handed neutrino mixes with all the standard model neutrinos. © 1993 The American Physical Society.

We consider a simple way of solving the flavor question by embedding the three-family standard model in a semisimple gauge group extending minimally the weak isospin factor. Quantum chiral anomalies between families of fermions cancel with a matching of the number of families and the number of color degrees of freedom. Our demonstration shows how the theory leads to determination of families structure when the standard model is the input at low energies. The new physics is limited to start below a few TeVs within the reach of the next generation colliders.

Starting from the well established form of the Dirac action coupled to the electromagnetic and torsion field we find that there is some additional softly broken local symmetry associated with torsion. This symmetry fixes the form of divergences of the effective action after the spinor fields are integrated out. Then the requirement of renormalizability fixes the torsion field to be equivalent to some massive pseudovector and its action is fixed with accuracy to the values of coupling constant of torsion-spinor interaction, mass of the torsion and higher derivative terms. Implementing this action into the abelian sector of the Standard Model we establish the upper bounds on the torsion mass and coupling. In our study we used results of present experimental limits on four-fermion contact interaction (LEP, HERA, SLAC, SLD, CCFR) and TEVATRON limits on the cross section of new gauge boson, which could be produced as a resonance at high energy pp̄ collisions. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. We derive bounds on Higgs and gauge-boson anomalous interactions using the CDF data for the process pp̄ → γγγ + X. We use a linearly realized SU L(2) X U Y(1) invariant effective Lagrangian to describe the bosonic sector of the Standard Model, keeping the fermionic couplings unchanged. All dimension-six operators that lead to anomalous Higgs interactions involving γ and Z are considered. We also show the sensitivity that can be achieved for these couplings at Fermilab Tevatron upgrades. © 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Several parity-violating left-right asymmetries in Miller electron-electron and muon-muon scattering are considered in the context of the electroweak standard model at the tree level in fixed target and collider experiments. We show that in colliders the asymmetry with only one of the beams polarized is large enough to compensate the smaller cross section at high energies. We also show that these asymmetries are very sensitive to a doubly charged vector bilepton resonance but they are insensitive to scalar ones.

We analyze the potential of the CERN Large Hadron Collider to study anomalous quartic vector-boson interactions through the production of vector-boson pairs accompanied by jets. In the framework of SU(2) L⊗U(1) Y chiral Lagrangians, we examine all effective operators of order p 4 that lead to new four-gauge-boson interactions but do not alter trilinear vertices. In our analyses, we perform the full tree-level calculation of the processes leading to two jets plus vector-boson pairs, W +W -,W ±W ±,W ±Z, or ZZ, taking properly into account the interference between the standard model and the anomalous contributions. We obtain the bounds that can be placed on the anomalous quartic interactions and we study the strategies to distinguish the possible new couplings. ©1998 The American Physical Society.

We examine the potentiality of both CERN LEP and Fermilab Tevatron colliders to establish bounds on new couplings involving the bosonic sector of the standard model. We pay particular attention to the anomalous Higgs interactions with γ, W±, and Z0. A combined exclusion plot for the coefficients of different anomalous operators is presented. The sensitivity that can be achieved at the Next Linear Collider and at the upgraded Tevatron is briefly discussed. ©1999 The American Physical Society.

In certain mild extensions of the standard model, spin-independent long range forces can arise by exchange of two very light pseudoscalar spin-0 bosons. In particular, we have in mind models in which these bosons do not have direct tree level couplings to ordinary fermions. Using the dispersion theoretical method, we find a 1/r3 behavior of the potential for the exchange of very light pseudoscalars and a 1/r7 dependence if the pseudoscalars are true massless Goldstone bosons. ©1999 The American Physical Society.

Flavor changing (FC) neutrino-matter interactions can account for the zenith-angle-dependent deficit of atmospheric neutrinos observed in the SuperKamiokande experiment, without directly invoking either neutrino mass or mixing. We find that FC ν μ-matter interactions provide a good fit to the observed zenith angle distributions, comparable in quality to the neutrino oscillation hypothesis. The required FC interactions arise naturally in many attractive extensions of the standard model. © 1999 The American Physical Society.
