The objective of this work was to evaluate the responses of Haematococcus pluvialis cells to the carotenogenesis induction process, under light and nutrition stress. Cells were acclimated during 15 days in WC medium, with aeration with synthetic, filtered atmospheric air and flow rate of 100 mL min-1, light intensity of 50 µmol photons m-2 s-1, photoperiod of 12 hours, and temperature of 23ºC. The following two treatments were compared: cultivation under the described conditions, but with increase of light intensity up to 350 µmol photons m-2 s-1 ; and cultivation under the same conditions as the previous treatment, but with aeration containing 4% CO2. The treatments were done in triplicate, during ten days. With the addition of CO2 and the increment in lighting, an increase was observed in the carotenoids/chlorophyll ratio and cell biomass. Cells stopped dividing on the second day of stress, when nitrate became limiting, and significantly increased their biovolume. The excretion of organic carbon and the concentration of astaxanthin increase in response to the addition of CO2. Stress by light intensity combined with CO2 addition optimizes carotenogenesis in H. pluvialis and increases astaxanthin production.

Considering there are few researches about the influence of seedlings fertilization on yield, this work was carried out in order to evaluate the effect of rates of nitrogen and potassium, applied by fertirrigation, in endive seedlings on yield. Two experiments were carried out, the first with four treatments, varying nitrogen rates, and the second with four potassium rates. In both, experimental design was randomized blocks, with four replications. In the first experiment, we utilized ammonium nitrate, weekly, at rates 0; 40; 80 and 120 mg of N L-1, while in the second experiment we utilized potassium chloride, weekly, at rates 0; 70; 140 and 210 mg of K2O L-1. The evaluated characteristics at seedling stage were shoot height, number of leaves, fresh and dry shoot weight. At harvesting, we evaluated plant height, diameter, number of leaves and fresh weight. Potassium rates did not influence all characteristics, at seedling and at harvesting stages. For all seedling characteristics, there was linear increasing depending on nitrogen rates. But, for plant fresh weight, diameter and number of leaves at harvesting, the effect was quadratic. The highest fresh weight and number of leaves at harvesting were obtained with 90 mg of N L-1.

The aim of this study was evaluate the response of two coffee cultivars (tolerant and sensitive to aluminum - Al), inoculated or not by two arbuscular mycorriza fungi (AMF), Gigaspora margarita and Glomus etunicatum, in cerrado Oxisol, with different base saturation. This experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions, with a complete randomized design, in a 2x3x2 factorial scheme, consisting of 2 cultivars (tolerante and sensitive to Al), 3 treatments with mycorrhizal (inoculated with two species of AMF and without inoculation) and 3 levels of soil base saturation (30, 45 and 53 V%), with five replicates per treatment. The variables were: plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, shoot dry weight, root fresh weight, nitrate reductase activity, chlorophyll concentration, root colonization and number of AMF spores. Mycorrhizae isolates promoted greater response of coffee plants, in acid soil with high concentration of Al, but this response was observed for both cultivars when plants were colonized by G. margarita. The cultivars evaluated showed no differences in Al tolerance when non inoculated.
