This study aimed to evaluate the use of sweet potato as a substrate for the production of spirits. In order to promote an alternative technologically feasible, an experimental design was performed to minimize the operations of preparation, defining the most adequate conditions for the fermentation process. From sweet potato flour obtained by milling and dehydration process of the roots was carried out an enzymatic process of hydrolysis-saccharification of suspension of sweet potato flour with 18% dry matter. The hydrolyzate was used in the fermentation process which followed the 23 full factorial experimental design with central and axial points, and the independent variables were the concentration of reducing sugars, concentration of viable yeast and fermentation temperature. The dependent variables were viable cells, residual sugar, ethanol, glycerol and methanol. The dependent variables were quantified by liquid chromatography. The data analysis indicate that the best fermentation conditions among the tested conditions were: concentration of yeast 5 x 107-1 x 108 in number of viable cells, total reducing sugars from 12.5 to 13.5% and temperature between 33 -34ºC.

In 2010, the Brazilian forest sector is represented by about 30,000 companies producing US$ 21 billion annually and account for approximately 5% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the country. The sanding process is highly demanded in various stages of industrialization of the wood, when there is a need for a better quality surface finishing. The objective of this work was to analyze the influence of cutting speed and sandpaper granulometry on both the surface finishing of pieces of Eucalyptus grandis processed through tubular sanding and on the sanding efforts (force and power of sanding). Four cutting speeds were used (19.5, 22.7, 26 and 28.1 m/s), one advance speed (16 m/min) and three sets of sandpaper (80-100, 80-120 and 100-120) being one for chipping and another for finishing, respectively. A central data acquisition system was set up to capture the variables (cutting power, acoustic emission and vibration) in real time. The cutting force was obtained indirectly, through a frequency inverter. The roughness of the parts was measured by a roughness meter before and after sanding. The highest cutting speed used (28.1 m/s) consumed more power and generated more acoustic emission among the four speeds tested. Regarding the vibration, the lower cutting speed (19.5 m/ s) generated the highest vibration in the sander machine. It is concluded that the range of 100-120 sandpapers resulted in values of average roughness (Ra) lower than the other sets of sandpaper used, as it resulted in better surface finishing.

This article describes the evolution of Innovaton concepts, specifically Technological Innovation. It seeks to demonstrate that this conceptual evolution opens new paths for the development of Innovations and for the creation of Competitive Opportunities. It presents a model for searching and assessing the risk of these innovations regarding the adopted Technologies and the targeted market. A traditional tool for the Adoption of Innovations is introduced to be used in risk assessment. We seek to propose a strategy to search for, to identify and to assess innovations based on the involvement of the entire organization, by means of activities guided by creativity. Important aspects regarding the process of adopting Innovations are described to demonstrate the importance of the "time" dimension, as well as to contribute for the Innovation search practice.

Considering the importance that the discussion of concepts related to genetics has on the society and the necessity to approach science as a dynamic and historical activity, it will be discussed an essential concept to the understanding of biological inheritance: the concept of gene. This way, the article aims to discuss the differents concepts of genes in the history of biology and the relevance of addressing in teaching context this concept in a systemic perception of phenomena. Also, the paper have an analyses of the ideas about the concept of the gene from teachers from two university. The results indicate the presence of different definitions of the gene in the discourse of university teachers, with the predominance of gene concept as a structural, functional and/or informational unit.

The main purpose of this article is to relate two among the most important themes of the current organizational dynamic: organizational culture, innovation and environmental management. Great part of the literature about environmental management and environmental innovation refers to organizational culture as the most arduous wall or the most significant element to develop effective practices of business environmental management. However, relationship among such concepts is, many times, superficial or camouflaging the necessary analytic depth. To solve this challenge, this article integrates the levels of the organizational culture (workmanships, values and presupposed unconscious), the typologies of environmental innovation (total productivity of resources, innovations for the segregation of materials and articulation of bio-systems), and the environmental technologies (end-of-pipe, environmental measurement, pollution prevention and zero-impact technology). Recommendations and challenges for the continuity of this research are registered.

The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between run-up spatial-temporal variables with ball velocity in the dominant and non-dominant kicks, and to compare the ball velocity between contralateral limbs. Six futsal players (aged 13 and 14 years) participated in the study. The participants performed 4 kicks with maximal velocity in the stationary ball with each limb. Participants’ movements were recorded by 4 digital cameras (120 Hz). Dvideow software was used for kinematic procedures. The variables analyzed were: length and width of the last but one step and last step before ball contact, distance of the support foot to the ball, run-up velocity and ball velocity. The relationship between spatial-temporal variables with the ball velocity was analyzed by linear regressions with ball velocity as dependent variable. Student t test for paired samples was used to compare ball velocity between dominant and non-dominant kicks. For the dominant limb, the ball velocity was predicted only by the run-up velocity in 16.7%, while for the non-dominant limb only the distance of the support foot to the ball was prognostic variable in 11.9%. The ball velocity was greater for the dominant limb. Run-up variables that predictive ball velocity were different between the dominant and non-dominant kicks.

In this paper, we analyze the educational importance of teaching Physics in the early grades of elementary school from a teaching experience with students of 5th grade, using five experiments on electricity and magnetism. The theoretical framework used was the socio-historical psychology, especially Vigotski's studies on concept formation. It can be stated that the teaching of Physics and the use of experimental activities in the early grades cannot be simply associated to the teaching of certain scientific concepts, but should be explored bearing in mind the child's development.
