Compreendendo o significado da liderança para o aluno de graduação em enfermagem: uma abordagem fenomenológica

This study aimed at understanding the meaning of leadership to undergraduate nursing students and the expectation related to their professional practice. Phenomenology was used as theoretical framework. Fifteen undergraduate nursing students were recruited as subjects and answered the following question: What do you understand by leadership, and how can it be applied in your professional practice? The topics which were revealed and analyzed, Leadership Styles and Leadership Exercise, enabled us to understand that the meaning attributed to leadership is unveiled as a dynamic process, and the style adopted is the form to lead a team; therefore, an ideal leadership style does not exist. In teaching, the leadership style began to be discussed when the participant forms of personnel management were approached. In leadership practice, the dissociation between leadership theory and practice is emphasized, pointing out that integration with practice is relevant for leadership learning.

Translation and cultural adaptation for Brazil of the Developing Nurses' Thinking model

OBJETIVOS:traduzir e adaptar culturalmente para a língua portuguesa do Brasil o modelo Developing Nurses' Thinking, utilizado como estratégia ao ensino do raciocínio clínico.MÉTODO:a tradução e adaptação cultural foi realizada por meio de tradução inicial, síntese das traduções, retrotradução, avaliação por comitê de especialistas e pré-teste com 33 estudantes de graduação em enfermagem.RESULTADOS:as etapas de tradução inicial, síntese das traduções e retrotradução foram realizadas a contento, havendo a necessidade de pequenos ajustes. Na avaliação pelo comitê de especialistas da versão traduzida, todos os itens obtiveram concordância superior a 80% na primeira rodada de avaliação e no pré-teste com os estudantes. O modelo mostrou-se adequado à sua finalidade.CONCLUSÃO:recomenda-se o uso do modelo como uma estratégia complementar ao ensino do raciocínio diagnóstico, visando a formação de enfermeiros mais conscientes sobre a tarefa diagnóstica e a importância da segurança do paciente.

The association between restorative pre-clinical activities and musculoskeletal disorders

Objective: To evaluate the risk of development of musculoskeletal disorders in the upper limbs of undergraduate dentistry students during the execution of pre-clinical laboratory activities based on gender, type of dental procedure and area of the mouth under treatment.Methods: Male and female undergraduate students in the second year of the Araraquara Dental School, UNESP, were enrolled in this study. Digital photographs were obtained whilst the subjects performed laboratory activities. The working postures adopted by each student were evaluated using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA). The photos were analysed by a calibrated researcher (k = 0.89), and a final risk score was attributed to each analysed procedure (n = 354). Descriptive statistical analyses were performed, and the associations of interest were analysed by the chisquare test (P = 0.05).Results: During most of the laboratory procedures performed, the risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders was high (64.7%; - IC95%: 59.7-69.7%), with no significant association between the RULA final score and gender (chi(2) = 1.100; P = 0.577), type of dental procedure (chi(2) = 5.447, P = 0.244) and mouth area treated (chi(2) = 4.150; P = 0.126).Conclusions: The risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders was high in undergraduate dentistry students; this risk was not related to gender, type of dental procedure and region of the mouth being treated.

Informatização na educação em saúde: avaliação de site educacional

Health education presently experiences the incorporation of information technology, thus making access to information more practical and attainable. The initiatives to make health care scientific content available virtually have shown to be useful for teaching, health care professionals and the general population. A website, however, must be constantly managed. To promote the dissemination of the website at www.educacaoemsaude.fmb.unesp.br among faculty members and undergraduate nursing students and students at Escola Técnica de Enfermagem (Vocational Nursing School) - ETE, by evaluating, among them, its graphic and functional aspects and seeking suggestions for its improvement. This is a descriptive quantitative study for which the participants were asked to fill out an instrument designed for the study. The evaluation was performed among nursing faculty members and students at Univ Estadual Paulista Júlio Mesquita Filho – UNESP and students at Escola Técnica de Enfermagem (Vocational Nursing School) – ETEC in the city of Botucatu. The number of participants totaled 88 individuals, of whom 23 were undergraduate students, 62 were students at ETEC, and 3 were faculty members. Eighty-one were females, and 7 were males. The participants’ age ranged from 17 to 56 years. Among the items that evaluated the website, the answers prevailed from “very good” to “good”. When the participants were asked what they had thought about the website, the answers were mostly positive, and the most frequently description given was “interesting”. Among the facilities, the most frequently reported was “easily understood content”, and as regards difficulties, handling the website was the most often mentioned. Extensão universitária e trabalho voluntário na formação do acadêmico em odontologia

The aim of the present study was to point out the importance of the experience of undergraduate dental students in extra-curricular activities and volunteer work, as a means through which to gain essential knowledge and abilities for their professional lives. A literature review of the Medline, Scielo, and Lilacs databases was carried out in an attempt to select articles related to the university extension and volunteer work of undergraduate dental students. It is still extremely difficult to include university extension and volunteer work as an important activity in Dentistry courses. However, the presentday work market demands professionals who have expertise not only in dental techniques, but also in the socio-cultural characteristics of communities, considering that people need to be comprehensive in their psychosocial aspects in order to be treated as a complete professional. Therefore, university dentistry courses should give equal consideration to both oral rehabilitation skills and the promotion of general healthcare, acquired mainly through extracurricular activities, in an attempt to redeem the integral education of the healthcare professional. Moreover, students should pay closer attention to the opportunities offered during their undergraduate courses, as the work market for dentists is becoming more and more competitive. Moreover, the dentist whose professional life is limited to the dental office will most certainly forgo the opportunity to act in other social areas as well as the recognition that comes with such acts.
