A Província de Sergipe ganhou autonomia em relação à Província da Bahia em 1820, por decisão de D. João VI, que então já havia transferido a Corte portuguesa para o Brasil. Dois anos depois o Brasil se tornava uma nação soberana, separando-se de Portugal. Esses dois acontecimentos, que guardam proximidade temporal e política, instigaram a historiadora Edna Maria Matos Antônio a estudar a presença da corte portuguesa no Brasil e os significados das transformações institucionais aplicadas pelo governo joanino às regiões distantes do Rio de Janeiro, então sede política da nação. A autora aborda as reformas econômicas e administrativas promovidas pelo estado metropolitano, iniciadas na fase pombalina em meados do século XVIII e continuadas com a chegada de D. João VI ao Rio de Janeiro. E avalia as distintas conseqüências de tais reformas para o desenvolvimento regional do Brasil, além da influência que teriam exercido sobre o movimento da independência brasileira. Tomando como referência a Revolução Pernambucana de 1817, que ao contestar a política joanina e exigir reformas recebeu adesão de parte das elites locais e desencadeou conflitos na relação com o poder monárquico, o livro analisa o processo de independência da capitania de Sergipe. A autonomia teria sido concedida em reconhecimento da Coroa à participação dos representantes do poder sergipano no combate à revolta de Pernambuco. A investigação desses fatos permitiu à autora expor a natureza desses conflitos e seus desdobramentos dentro da crise do colonialismo em terras brasileiras. O momento exigia que os grupos sociais e políticos da Colônia tomassem decisões sobre formatos políticos institucionais vistos como soluções para melhorar e modificar a realidade. The growth area of cities has resulted in a phenomenon of conurbation (or expressing tendency). This correspond to a combine of two or more urban cores, there are formations of conurbations. In this way, there are the formations of urban concentrations and can achieve the step metropolitan or not metropolitan. Besides, this kind of expansion generates many social and environmental problems related about habitation, rubbish, drain, and others. Piracicaba, a city in expansion, recently, shows evidences of conurbation not metropolitan around itself. Like this, the paulista government, at June, 26 of 2012, institutionalized the Urban Concentration of Piracicaba, a regional unity, intending the administration along with 22 cities. However, for this fact, must be taken into account functional integration among urban centers, because the number of municipalities are presented to compose a urban concentration of level not metropolitan. It has checked along this research, according with proposition about 22 cities. Thus, the objective of this research is identify and analyze the functional integration among participating municipalities through the commuting, in other words, the spatial displacement of people, important factor to be taken into account when defining urban concentration. Considering the displacement routine people, the commuting, also aimed identify the flow of public transport intercity travel among the cities of Piracicaba Regional Unity. Then, analyze the criteria used for establish the Piracicaba Regional Unity, if it was considered technical character or if it was prioritized the political character. To conduct this research, it was done the literature review related to the theme and data collection related lines of intercity transportation and often travel with ARTESP and companies responsible for it service

The present article aims to elaborate an objective analytical panel, initially from the 1920- 1930 when Luiz Ignácio Romeiro de Anhaia Mello, cathedratic in the urban question, started to quote a series of authors and American plans as references to their reflections, mainly when the point was the verticalization or not at São Paulo City. From a broad bibliographic research with the systematization of the register from the debate between Anhaia Mello, this article intends to point out how the transposition of the urbanistic conceptions to the academic environment happened and, at the same time, the legal normatization of the São Paulo City that resulted in the creation of a draft of the regulations for use and occupation of the soil. The systematizations and analysis were based in a broad reading of the bibliography and documental sources that refer to the proposed theme. The books of the library of FAU-USP, specifically the one from SAGMACS – Sociedade de Análises Gráficas e Mecanográficas Aplicadas aos Complexos Sociais ( Society of Graphical Mechanical-Graphic Analysis Applied to Social Complexes) -, aiming to select papers and the collection of Anhaia Mello´s family, so that a reconstruction of the intellectual and professional journey of the Urbanism Professor. The systematization of the collected data and posterior comparison with the bibliographical study was fundamental for the reconstruction of the reflection of Anhaia Mello about the ways of the urban streets and roads at Sao Paulo City should be lead to on the middle of the XX century having as a guideline the debate between Anhaia Mello – very common on the 1950s for less important countries when dealing with the organization of the size of industrial metropolis. It was possible to identify the crystallization of one urbanistic proposal for the city: the from Anhaia Mello, that bet on the reversion of the metropolitan cycle by stopping the urban growth by the application of the theoretical conception of the garden city.
