The school textbook is an important pedagogic resource in the classroom, and it is frequently the only one. But, an analysis of the Maternal Language’s textbooks in Brazil and in Portugal allowed us to detect serious didactic obstacles to the learning of the language in its semiotic omnifuncionality. In this paper we are going to present the results of a project that involves the presence of a children’s literature book in the classroom instead of the textbook adaptations. We developed activities before, during and after the reading in a fourth grade class of an Elementary School in Brazil and Portugal having the aim of build readers.

But read is assigning meaning to something , make sense, interact with the text read. Thus, the present study addresses the mechanical reading, that without contextualization, performed on a technique by joining letters and syllables loose and also reading social use, consisting of statements, dialogism , polyphony and heteroglossy. It is known that the mechanical reading brings undesirable consequences, including learning problems, such as lack of attention, concentration, memory, imagination. When the reading is taught in a systematic way, with only the goal of the code decoding of written language, destroys social perspectives and intellectual development. In this paper, we propose a brief analysis of Ou Isto ou Aquilo, a 1964 children's poetry book by Cecilia Meireles. Based on the perception that the poems in this book possess a distinctive character, both aesthetically and thematically, the analysis focuses precisely on the work's unique aspects, regarding the approach to certain issues which are not customarily associated with the child's universe - such as solitude, death, longing, sorrow, angst and nostalgia. Our work aims to shun a common - and sometimes reductionist - vision of children's poetry, by seeing the ludic primarily as a tool that allows the poet to address denser themes in a way that is accessible to children, but without underestimating them. Likewise, based on the assumptions presented, we intend to demonstrate how the author allows not only children, but also to the adult readers, to get in contact with poetic profundity that is not restricted to the target audience. Thus, we expect that the presentation and the analysis of children's poems might, in a way, redeem the importance of Cecilia Meireles's children's poetic production
