Negative parental practices may influence the onset and maintenance of externalizing behavior problems, and positive parenting seem to improve children's social skills and reduce behavior problems. The objective of the present study was to describe the effects of an intervention designed to foster parents' social skills related to upbringing practices in order to reduce externalizing problems in children aged 4 to 6 years. Thirteen mothers and two care taker grandmothers took part in the study with an average of four participants per group. To assess intervention effects, we used a repeated measure design with control, pre, and post intervention assessments. Instruments used were: (a) An interview schedule that evaluates the social interactions between parents and children functionally, considering each pair of child's and parent's behaviors as context for one another; (b) A Social Skills Inventory; (c) Child Behavior Checklist - CBCL. Intervention was effective in improving parent general social skills, decreasing negative parental practices and decreasing child behavior problems.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 5-year clinical performance of composite restorations of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL) using a total-etch adhesive system with or without collagen removal with 10% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl).Methods: In this study randomized controlled split-mouth clinical trial, one-hundred and thirty-eight NCCL were restored into 30 patients. Each patient received at least one pair of composite restorations (Filtek A110/3M ESPE), bonded either with 2 techniques: Conventional Technique - acid etching with 37% phosphoric acid + Prime & Bond NT (Denstply DeTrey); Deproteinization Technique - acid etching with 37% phosphoric acid + 10% NaOCl for 1 min + Prime & Bond NT. The two techniques were evaluated using the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria at baseline, 18 months, 3 and 5 years. After five years, one-hundred and six restorations were evaluated in 24 patients. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test (p < 0.05).Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the two techniques regarding the evaluated parameters (p > 0.05).Conclusion: After 5 years, the application of 10% NaOCl deproteinization on etched dentine did not affect the clinical performance of composite restorations placed in NCCL when compared to the conventional total-etch technique.Clinical significance: Clinical studies evaluating the performance of the Deproteinization Technique are scarce. In this study, this technique showed similar clinical performance at the end of 5 years when compared to a conventional total-etch technique. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This article presents elements that make up the quality of education in the age group of zero to five years, offered by institutions of Early Childhood Education in Brazil, based on research results disseminated in theses and dissertations that focus on this theme. It was used as the methodological procedure outlined mapping Brazilian literature of academic research related to the Post-Graduate Education, which focus on the issue in the period between 1996 and 2012. The results of the study provide insights on funding, teacher training, family, quality of care in the school systems, institutional assessment, perceptions of quality and educational practices that allow discuss the quality of early childhood education offered in Brazilian institutions. To know the profile of research of each Department of Education is of utmost importance for future actions of improvements. This type of study must be made continuously of form to evaluate Departments´ trends as well as the College´s as a whole, besides stimulating the activities of research and formation of human resources of the Departments. In this work is quantified activity of orientation and research of the Departments of the College of Engineering of Guaratinguetá - UNESP, through national and international publications in periodic, congresses and supervisions of graduation works, masters, doctoral, post doctoral, and scientific initiation, in a period five years (2007 through 2012). For balance of points to the considered issues, a criterion based on the CAPES qualification of periodic has been assumed. On the basis of the results of this work, has been observed enormous differences and particularities between the seven analyzed Departments of Education. In a general way, some Departments presented good performance in the three criteria, whereas others obtained a good performance in only one of them. The Department of Materials and Technology was the only one in which 25% of the professors obtained maximum note for the publication in periodic, while in the Departments of Civil, Electric Engineering and Mechanics 75% of the professors did not reach sufficient punctuation in order to equal a publication in periodic with B2 extract
