The influence of emotional condition on quality of life during the aging process is a theme that stands out in the context of research, since the psychosocial skills of the elderly are vulnerable to changes in structure, function body and the environment. Given this, aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a programming expressive activities in controlling depressive symptoms manifested by institutionalized elderly. Participants were 7 people in a geriatric institution with symptoms suggestive of depression and it was used to evaluate the GSD-15, which was applied at the beginning and end of treatment planning. The intervention was applied for four months, making up two weekly sessions of 75 minutes. Of the total of 5 seniors with probability of depression in the pretest, 3 reached the normal range for depression at post-test, recommending the continuation of the study to a larger sample and greater consistency of results about the effects of activities expressive about depressive symptoms manifested by older people.

Introduction: The growth of the aged population in developing countries is fast. Cognitive, motion, metabolic and social injuries are associated to aging, which are potentially able to impair the quality of life of the elder population. A physical activity that provides a mental and physical welfare besides its importance to the good aging, therefore, the Tai Chi Chuan is considered an effi cient and cheap way to improve the quality of life and to reduce the physical alterations unchained by aging. Objective: To verify the effect of the Tai Chi Chuan of the quality of life, fl exibility and balance in elderly. Methods: Nine volunteers, three men (66.33 ± 13.32 years) and six women (68.67 ± 11.34 years) participated in the study. They performed the training of Tai Chi Chuan during 12 weeks, two times per week, with duration of one hour each session. The volunteers were evaluated at the beginning of the study and after the 12 weeks of training by means of the application of the questionnaire of quality of life SF-36, a scale of balance and the test to seat and to reach was applied to evaluate the fl exibility. Results: It was observed in the Tai Chi Chuan training improvement of the balance and fl exibility; however, the quality of life did not present signifi cant difference. Conclusion: These fi ndings allow us to conclude that the Tai Chi Chuan was effi cient in the improvement of the equilibrium and the fl exibility of elder people; however, it did not modify the Quality of Life of the studied population.

Falls among older people is a major clinical problem due to its high incidence, with consequent implications for the health and care costs. Elderly patients with dementia of Alzheimer type (AD) are more susceptible to falls due to the impairment of executive functions and gait, with the risk of falls 3 times higher than non-demented elderly. This study used a longitudinal design and aimed to analyze the effects of a regular and systematized physical activity program on the frequency of falls in patients with AD. Additionally, we aimed to correlate the frequency of falls with the executive functions and equilibrium, after and before the physical activity program. The study included 21 patients with clinical diagnosis of AD, divided into two groups: control group (CG), composed of 11 subjects not engaged in any systematized physical activity and training group (TG): 10 seniors who participated in the Cinesioterapia Functional and Cognitive in Elderly with Alzheimer's disease program (PRO-CDA). The physical activity program lasted four months, with weekly frequency of three times, with each session lasting 60 minutes. Were administered the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to assess cognitive functioning and global score of the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) to classify the severity of dementia. For the evaluation of executive functions were used the Clock Drawing Test (TDR) and Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). In addition, we used the Functional Balance Scale, Berg test (EEFB) and Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) to assess the equilibrium and risk of falls. Falls were recorded by means of a questionnaire, which included the number of falls in the last four months. Analyzing the results, it was observed that TG obtained significant improvements in equilibrium and in executive functions, highlighting the beneficial effects of physical activity in these variables... The burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a relevant pathology that has been defined as a chronic pain with difficult diagnosis and treatment. The prevalence of BMS is estimate to be 15% of the general population, being more common in the elderly and middle-aged. Characterized by a burning sensation in more than one area, more frequently on the two thirds of the tongue, on the anterior half of the hard palate and on the mucosa of the upper lip, the BMS is associated with clinical signs of normality and normal laboratory findings. For several studies the BMS etiology is controversial because it is multifactorial since it can be caused by local, neuropathic, psychological and/or systemic factors. These controversies make the diagnosis more difficult, especially if the dentist does not have knowledge about the syndrome. Thus, the aim of this paper is to present, by means of a literature review, the main features of BMS, indicating the procedures that may be useful for diagnosis, and also the available therapeutic modalities in order to increasing the knowledge of health professionals so that patients with BMS may benefit from appropriate treatment, support and professional confidence, always aiming to better quality of life.

The swimming is one of the most suitable activities for the stimulation of People with Desabilitie (PWD), we want it isfor the freedom of corporal action for those that possess motive limitation, as well as, for the discovery need, corporal adaptation inthe aquatic way. This way, in the academies that develop this activity it is waited we find PWD inserted in the classes. The objective ofthis study was to verify the inclusion process it is happening in the academies of swimming of the city of Bauru-SP. A field research wasdeveloped, of qualitative character and of exploratory stamp, where they were contacted the academies that taught swimming initially andthose that they were disposed to participate in the research, in a total of 10 academies. We verified that, of a total of 3105 people enrolledin the swimming classes in the academies 19 they were only PWD, in other words, 0,61%. Although the inclusion process is found in theswimming academies, this is very limited.
