Dromion solutions of the Davey-Stewartson equation are analysed from the point of view of the bilinear formalism. The corresponding τ-functions are expressed in terms of vacuum expectation values of Clifford operators and their group-theoretical content is provided. Explicit computation performed with the help of Wick's theorem allows us to characterize the dromion interaction. © 1990.

The superstring is quantized in a manner which manifestly preserves a U(5) subgroup of the (Wick-rotated) ten-dimensional super-Poincaré invariance. This description of the superstring contains critical N = 2 worldsheet superconformal invariance and is a natural covariantization of the U(4)-invariant light-cone Green-Schwarz description. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. We report the combination of recent measurements of the helicity of the W boson from top quark decay by the CDF and D0 collaborations, based on data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.7-5.4fb -1 of pp̄ collisions collected during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Combining measurements that simultaneously determine the fractions of W bosons with longitudinal (f 0) and right-handed (f +) helicities, we find f 0=0.722±0.081[±0.062(stat)±0.052(syst)] and f +=-0.033±0.046[±0.034(stat)±0.031(syst)]. Combining measurements where one of the helicity fractions is fixed to the value expected in the standard model, we find f 0=0.682±0. 057[±0.035(stat)±0.046(syst)] for fixed f + and f +=-0.015±0.035[±0.018(stat)±0.030(syst)] for fixed f 0. The results are consistent with standard model expectations. © 2012 American Physical Society.

The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle, with a mass about 40 times larger than the mass of its isospin partner, the bottom quark. It decays almost 100% of the time to a W boson and a bottom quark. Using top-antitop pairs at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider, the CDF and D0 Collaborations have measured the top quark's mass in different final states for integrated luminosities of up to 5.8fb -1. This paper reports on a combination of these measurements that results in a more precise value of the mass than any individual decay channel can provide. It describes the treatment of the systematic uncertainties and their correlations. The mass value determined is 173.18±0.56(stat)±0.75(syst)GeV or 173.18±0.94GeV, which has a precision of ±0.54%, making this the most precise determination of the top-quark mass. © 2012 American Physical Society.

A suit able decision-making on managing a contaminated site characterization program is strongly dependent of the diagnosis process. A detailed diagnosis can be done based on a Conceptual Site Model (CSM) elaboration using high resolution site characterization tools. The piezocone (CPTu) test is a high resolution tool which allows attaching several specific sensors, like the resistivity probe. This hybrid device is called the resistivity piezocone (RCPTu). A simulated geo-environmental site characterization program was performed on an erosion site using different tools (direct push tools soil samplers, hollow stem auger (HSA) drilling and RCPTu tests) to develop the CSM for a site similar to the Brazilian conditions. It was observed a good agreement between the site profiles interpreted by the different methods. The resistivity sensor attached to the piezocone improved the interpretation and the decision-making process on site was significantly better for the CSM elaboration. The RCPTu test data also allowed identifying the hydrogeological heterogeneities. The present study shows that the RCPTu test is also a useful and powerful tool to development an accurate CSM in a Brazilian condition, especially in an approach that prioritizes high resolution geo-environmental investigation. © 2013 Taylor & Francis Group.

The objectives of this study were to (1) evaluate if dietary lysine (Lys) has an effect on the free amino acid (FAA) pool of Yellow Perch Perca flavescens eggs, and (2) determine how dietary Lys influences the reproductive performance and eggs fertilization rate (embryo survival) of female Yellow Perch. Two-year-old Yellow Perch of initial size of approximately 75 g were randomly distributed into six 400-L tanks at 32 +/- 1 fish per tank. This experiment included two wheat gluten-based diets in triplicate Lys-deficient ([-] Lys) and Lys-supplemented ([+]Lys; 2.23% in dry feed) diets. Females from the reference group were fed a commercial diet. Females from reference, (+) Lys, and (-) Lys groups were stripped and their eggs divided into 0.4-1.2-g portions and mixed with sperm (21.4 +/- 4.3 mu L) from either reference, (+) Lys, or (-) Lys males. The mean weight of Yellow Perch females and mean total weight of ovulated eggs were the greatest in the reference group compared with both (+) Lys and (-) Lys groups. There were no differences in the ratio of weight of eggs to female body weight as well as egg size among groups. There was no difference among treatments in the concentration of free amino acids except glutamic and aspartic acids in Yellow Perch eggs. There was significant effect of female dietary treatments on the egg fertilization rate averaged across all males. The higher fertilization rate was observed in the reference and (+) Lys groups compared with the (-) Lys group. The effect of female dietary treatment on the egg survival was also dependent on the dietary treatment of males.

The objective of this work is to use the technique of diffusion by concentration gradient films (DGT) for evaluation of dissolved urano in hydro bodies. For this we chose this work as a systems investigation of water bodies in the region of Poços de Caldas, state of Minas Gerais, because, there is a large amount of mining of uranila. The technique to be used to evaluate the potential for dissolved metals analysis involves the use of passive samplers with application in in situ. This allows detection with excellent sensitivity and selectivity allowing the determination of the labile fraction of dissolved metals
