Influence of Agroforestry and Traditional Management of Maize (Zea mays L.) on Soil Fertility

The aim of the work was to evaluate soil nutrient concentration at 0-5, 5-10, and 10-20 cm in maize (Zea mays L.) grown in sequence with black oats (Avena strigosa Schreb.) under Leucaena diversifolia alley cropping agroforestry system (AFS) and traditional management system/sole crop (without trees-TS), following a randomized block design. The experiment was carried out at the Brazilian Association of Biodynamic Agriculture, in Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil. The treatments were: control (C), chemical fertilizer (F), biomass of L. diversifolia alley cropping (B), and biomass of L. diversifolia alley cropping + chemical fertilizer (B+F). After 2 yr, it was observed that pH, organic matter, and nutrient content had a tendency to show higher values in the treatments biomass+fertilizer, biomass, and fertilizer application, in both systems. Higher values in pH, organic matter, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sum of bases, cation exchange capacity, percentage base saturation, boron, copper, and manganese tended to occur in the agroforestry system. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

O Professor no Cotidiano Escolar: uma experiência no ensino superior

O trabalho trata do relato de uma experiência didática, realizada numa disciplina introdutória do curso de Pedagogia. Procura levar à reflexão acerca de como a ação do professor do futuro professor está mais comprometida com a realização dos rituais acadêmicos tradicionais, do que com princípios revolucionários que geram as mudanças efetivas na área educacional (ou social) e como os discursos teóricos incorporados nos conteúdos programáticos, de cursos superiores de formação de professores, se perdem na rotina da sala de aula da própria universidade. O relato busca promover a reflexão acerca da contribuição dos professores universitários na formação de profissionais mais críticos, considerando a incoerência entre a teoria que prega e a prática que assume. Por fim são apresentadas pequenas iniciativas para tentar “transgredir” com o instituído, para romper com as relações de poder existentes nas instituições educacionais. O trabalho traz, em seu bojo, algumas observações registradas pelos alunos que participaram dessa iniciativa.

Establishing erosion susceptibility: analytical hierarchical process and traditional approaches

This study evaluated alternatives for producing erosion susceptibility maps, considering different weight combinations for an environment's attributes, according to four different points of views. The attributes considered were landform, steepness, soils, rocks and land occupation. Considered alternatives were: (1) equal weights, more traditional approach, (2) different weights, according to a previous study in the area, (3) different weights, based on other works in the literature, and (4) different weights based on the analytical hierarchical process. The area studied included the Prosa Basin located in Campo Grande-Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The results showed that the assessed alternatives can be used together or in different stages of studies aiming at urban planning and decision-making on the interventions to be applied.

Método Pilates: equilíbrio perfeito entre corpo e mente?

Taking as base the Brazilian Physical Education History, it’s possible to observe how much the recognizable corporal activity as smooth and alternative, giving origin to non traditional ways to move the body that receives the name of “alternative corporal practices” has increased lately. Therefore this research was done with objective to raise interest and stimulate physical educational professional and general interested people knowledge to the work of a corporal approach called “Pilates Method”. Based on a bibliographic research in sites, articles, and books about Pilates method, alternative corporal practices and physical education history, we tried to gather, in one material, important information about Pilates method. To organize the material here shown, we guided ourselves on the collection of UNESP´s library and on Pilates methods training courses about which were made references in the body text and were mentioned the bibliographic reference for further profound study of interested people. We hope that Physical Educational professionals and further interested people find in this conclusion course work that intends to contribute to the method divulgation assistance for higher and deeper knowledge concerning to the origin, principles and possibilities of practical appliance pedagogy of Pilates Methods.
