2001 SN263 is a triple system asteroid. Although it was discovery in 2001, in 2008 astronomical observation carried out by Arecibo observatory revealed that it is actually a system with three bodies orbiting each other. The main central body is an irregular object with a diameter about 2.8 km, while the other two are small objects with less than 1 km across. This system presents an orbital eccentricity of 0.47, with perihelion of 1.04 and aphelion of 1.99, which means that it can be considered as a Near Earth Object. This interesting system was chosen as the target for the Aster mission - first Brazilian space exploration undertaking. A small spacecraft with 150 kg of total mass, 30 kg of payload with 110 W available for the instruments, is scheduled to be launched in 2015, and in 2018 it will approach and will be put in orbit of the triple system. This spacecraft will use electric propulsion and in its payload it will carry image camera, laser rangefinder, infrared spectrometer, mass spectrometer, and experiments to be performed in its way to the asteroid. This mission represents a great challenge for the Brazilian space program. It is being structured to allow the full engagement of the Brazilian universities and technological companies in all the necessary developments to be carried out. In this paper, we present some aspects of this mission, including the transfer trajectories to be used, and details of buss and payload subsystems that are being developed and will be used. Lagrangian points L4 and L5 lie at 60 degrees ahead of and behind Moon in its orbit with respect to the Earth. Each one of them is a third point of an equilateral triangle with the base of the line defined by those two bodies. These Lagrangian points are stable for the Earth-Moon mass ratio. Because of their distance electromagnetic radiations from the Earth arrive on them substantially attenuated. As so, these Lagrangian points represent remarkable positions to host astronomical observatories. However, this same distance characteristic may be a challenge for periodic servicing mission. In this work, we introduce a new low-cost orbital transfer strategy that opportunistically combine chaotic and swing-by transfers to get a very efficient strategy that can be used for servicing mission on astronomical mission placed on Lagrangian points L4 or L5. This strategy is not only efficient with respect to thrust requirement, but also its time transfer is comparable to others known transfer techniques based on time optimization. It was verified that the asteroid Magnya has some physical and chemical characteristics similar to the bodies from Vesta family. However, astronomical observations revealed that Magnya is distant from these bodies. In the present work, we assumed that Magnya originated from Vesta and we try to justify its current distant orbital location taking into account the effects of close encounters between Magnya and Vesta. The methodology adopted involved an analytical approach considering the technique of the gravity assisted maneuver, also known as swing-by. We found that the energy variation achieved through a single swing-by between Vesta and Magnya are very small when compared to the variation that would be required to change the orbit of Magnya. The effects of multiple close encounters were also considered and discussed. We concluded that the possibility of multiple encounters is limited, and therefore, that Magnya should suffer other perturbations (such as resonances, collisions or close encounters with other bodies, for instance) that would provide the supposed change in its orbit.

An alternative transfer strategy to send spacecrafts to stable orbits around the Lagrangian equilibrium points L4 and L5 based in trajectories derived from the periodic orbits around LI is presented in this work. The trajectories derived, called Trajectories G, are described and studied in terms of the initial generation requirements and their energy variations relative to the Earth through the passage by the lunar sphere of influence. Missions for insertion of spacecrafts in elliptic orbits around L4 and L5 are analysed considering the Restricted Three-Body Problem Earth- Moon-particle and the results are discussed starting from the thrust, time of flight and energy variation relative to the Earth. Let m and n be integers greater than 1. Given lattices A and B of dimensions m and n, respectively, a technique for constructing a lattice from them of dimension m+n-1 is introduced. Furthermore, if A and B possess bases satisfying certain conditions, then a second technique yields a lattice of dimension m+n-2. The relevant parameters of the new lattices are given in terms of the respective parameters of A,B, and a lattice C isometric to a sublattice of A and B. Denser sphere packings than previously known ones in dimensions 52, 68, 84, 248, 520, and 4098 are obtained. © 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This paper studies the problem of applying an impulsive control in a spacecraft that is performing a Swing-By maneuver. The objective is to study the changes in velocity, energy and angular momentum for this maneuver as a function of the three usual parameters of the standard Swing-By plus the three parameters (the magnitude of the impulse, the point of its application and the angle between the impulse and the velocity of the spacecraft) that specify the impulse applied. The dynamics used is the restricted three body problem under the regularization of Lemaitre, made to increase the accuracy of the numerical integration near the primaries. The present research develops an algorithm to calculate the variation of energy and angular momentum in a maneuver where the application of the impulsive control occurs before or after the passage of the spacecraft by the periapsis, but within the sphere of influence of the secondary body and in a non-tangential direction. Using this approach, it is possible to find the best position and direction to apply the impulse to maximize the energy change of the total maneuver. The results showed that the application of the impulse at the periapsis and in the direction of motion of the spacecraft is usually not the optimal solution.

A remarkable characteristic of the physics subject is the abstraction ability needed during the learning process, which means a non-trivial comprehension and understanding. If the students could not link the themes learned in this subject with observable effects, physics would tend to be a group of mathematical formulas to be memorized. In general, it creates a distance between the student and the subject, and also a prejudice vision of the physics, sometimes for the whole life. Beyond this particular characteristics of physics, the education deals with a source of distraction reinforced by the popularization of mobile access such as cellphones and tablets. The traditional role played by the teacher becomes weak to attract student’s attention. It is necessary that the classes could be planned in such way to achieve three goals: attract student attention, link analytical concepts with real effects and, the most important, gives to the student the ability to use the learned concepts as the key to develop new knowledge. In this work, we present a research based in some experiments used in a CBEF (Brazilian magazine about physical education) and develop an activity consistent with the aims to be reached. To prepare of the experimental activity, we based on Piaget and Vygotsky theories. This work aimed to developed a theoretical research to obtain a didactical activity that deals with the current challenges of the society

Let m >= 3 be an integer, zeta(m) is an element of C a primitive mth root of unity, and K-m the cyclotomic field Q(zeta(m)). An explicit description of the integral trace form Tr-Km/Q(x (x) over bar)vertical bar Z[zeta(m)] where (x) over bar is the complex conjugate of x is presented. In the case where m is prime, a procedure for finding the minimum of the form subject to x being a nonzero element of a certain Z- module in Z[zeta(m)] is presented.
