The aim of this study was to estimate milk production and food consumption during the occurrence of heat waves in the Triangulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaiba, MG by means of bioclimatic zoning based on the Temperature and Humidity Index (THI). Therefore a history of heat wave occurrence between the years 2000-2010 was compiled. The decline in milk production (DMP) and reduced food consumption (RFC) were simulated in cities where periods of heat waves were identified. Frutal and Ituiutaba had the highest rate of heat wave occurrence per year. The DMP and RFC showed bioclimatic differences between the cities of Uberaba, Ituiutaba and Frutal. The cities with the best bioclimatic conditions were Sacramento and Patrocinio, as they presented a THI classified outside of the emergency range, with a night THI of below 76 and without heat waves. Therefore, the occurrence of heat waves can impair food intake and decrease milk production, thereby most effectively demonstrating the effects of thermal stress on dairy cows in the Triangulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaiba, MG region.

A espécie Polygonum acre H.B.K. Avian salmonellosis and mycoplasmosis are infectious diseases that, in addition of causing lack of flock uniformity, represent a hazard to human health. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the seroprevalence of mycoplasmosis and salmonellosis in commercial broilers, backyard chickens, and spent hens slaughtered at a processing plant with local health inspection in Uberlandia, MG, Brazil. A total of 210 samples were randomly collected at the time of bleeding. Samples were submitted to rapid plate serum agglutination test (RSA) for the classification of Salmonella pullorum, Salmonella gallinarum, Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae. In order to increase result specificity, mycoplasmosis-positive samples were submitted to hemagglutination inhibition test (HI). No samples presented detectable antibodies against Salmonella pullorum or Salmonella gallinarum in the RSA test. Only Mycoplasma synoviae was detected in 14% of the backyard chickens and 0.74% in commercial broilers, whereas no antibodies were detected in spent hens. The seroprevalence rates found in the present study emphasize the need of keeping chicken flocks free from disease using effective biosafety systems.

The ferruginous sandstone (Serra da Galga member) from Marilia formation present in sedimentary mining triangle plateaus - MG (southeast Brazil) is still not properly characterized, as well as the presence of a rich layer Fe nodules which is not properly understood, as are the alteration products of this material that may be linked to the presence of refractory clays which are characterized by intimate relationship between Fe and Al. Aluminum is widely present on top of these plateaus. This course conclusion paper characterized the mineralogy and distribution of smaller elements both rust sandstone evolved as soil above this sandstone. The characterization has been done by using X-ray fluorescence techniques (XRF), the iron was removed by using the CBD method (dithionito-citratebicarbonate), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and analysis of the products extracted by the CBD method by ICP- OES were made to characterize the material. The results of the XRF show great variation of Al and Si, Fe with almost constant behavior in the average depth of 110 cm, where it has the highest concentration levels. Fe appear associated with the V and Ce. CDB results show a clear relation of Fe with Al. Al does not have in this case compared with Cr or any other item. The concentration of extracted Al was always below the concentration of Fe. In the region, the formation of this Latosols- Gleysols system is subject to topography and its influence on local water regime, a regime that has direct influence on the formation of supergene accumulations as in the area and results in aluminum accumulation in refractory clays exploited by IBAR mining
