A contribuição de Lima Barreto para o entendimento da crítica educacional brasileira do início do século XX

This study aims at enhancing the understanding of the educational criticism in the beginning of the twentieth century, focusing on the ideas of Lima Barreto. Before the emergence of the "educational professionals", educational thought was developed by publicists and writers involved in a fertile debate, the results of which became visible in literary and journalistic production. Through the analysis of articles, short texts published in the press, novels and short stories written by Lima Barreto, it’s possible to gather a specific concept of education, underlying his criticism and fictional characterization of school education, as well as an interesting sketch of the cultural profile of Brazilian society at the time. Either explicitly or implicitly, in their evaluative and theoretical references, the limits of the critical readings of the author, which are expressed in the contradiction between negation of the given conditions and their affirmation, unveil the historical aspects of social and educational thinking and criticism.

Machado de Assis, jornalista: o homem, o texto, o tempo.

This article analyses some of Machado de Assis’ newspaper chronicles written in 1878 for O Cruzeiro. We intend to show that behind their extremely free literary composition, those texts show the author’s deepest critical point of views. Respecting the narrator fictional status, we are trying to see, as carefully as this subject demands on us, the man behind the journalist.

Esses cronistas de futebol e suas fábulas maravilhosas: a copa do mundo de 1998 na grande imprensa brasileira

This paper is focused on the reading of the texts of writers who collaborated with the leading newspapers of the Rio-São Paulo (represented here by the daily O Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S. Paulo, O Globo and Jornal do Brasil) in coverage Football World Cup 1998, held in France. This tournament crystallized a growing trend from print to the Brazilian season: the convening of writers and chroniclers of notebooks from culture to comment on the matches of the World Cup. Here we analyze how these writers and their chronicles and columns permeated by the poetic and metalinguistic functions, enriched the sports pages with reports, stories or comments imagery, subjective and even fictional about football, a phenomenon that is countered, so the search for the referent and journalistic impartiality
