The sol-gel process is a method for obtaining vitreous or vitro-ceramic materials which, are prepared a sol and by drying the liquid phase. This technique has been used extensively for the preparation of glassy gels, films, fibers and particles from the hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions of metal alkoxides. The usual methods for drying are: evaporation drying (xerogels), freeze drying (criogéis) and via supercritical CO2 extraction (aerogels). In the present work, we studied the preparation of silica gels by the sol-gel process from the hydrolysis of alkoxides tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTS). The hydrolysis was promoted from GPTS and TEOS in proportion (4: 1) under acidic conditions. The hydrolysis reaction was promoted inside a Becker at room temperature. After hydrolyses the prepared sol had pH 2, and kept under mechanical agitation for a period of 1 hour. In order to accelerate the polycondensation reaction, the pH was corrected to a value near 5 by slowly adding NH4OH. Then the sols were leaked in sealed polycarbonate containers and maintained for 20 days at 40°C for gelation. Silica aerogels were prepared via supercritical CO2 extraction of the wet gel at temperature and pressure higher than 31°C and 74 atm, in an autoclave specially developed for the process. The structural characteristics were studied in the dry gel (aerogel). Aerogels were then characterized by nitrogen adsorption and small angle light scattering. The nitrogen adsorption data were analyzed for the determination of the BET specific surface (SBET), the total pore volume Vp, the pore mean size (lP=4Vp/SBET), the particle mean size (lS) and the pore size distribution (PSD). And the data from small angle light scattering were analyzed to determine the correlation function (γ'), the area per unit volume (S/V), average pore size (l ) and the average particle size...

Organic- inorganic hybrid (HOI) are materials prepared with the combination of inorganic and organic components. The properties of a hybrid material are unique, not being the sum of each individual component added. This occurs because there is a synergism that depends of the chemical nature of organic and inorganic components, of the size and morphology of their domains. The sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) it's an anionic polymer obtained of the cellulose, very soluble in water in which forms both solutions themselves and gels. The sodium polyphosphate (NaPO3)n, known commercially as Graham Salt is the only polyphosphate soluble in water, and it's the polyphosphate with the longest chain. At the present work it was prepared and characterized new phosphate organic- inorganic hybrids films of carboxymethylcellulose / sodium phosphate and luminescent films of CMC/NaPO3 doped with europium chloride (EuCl3). The films where prepared in several proportions. At first, it was set the amount of water to be used and the amount of carboxymethylcellulose, changing the concentrations of sodium polyphosphate and europium chloride. After pre-establishing concentrations, for each film, the components were submitted to constant agitation and subsequent drying. The inorganic-organic hybrid films were characterized by, TG, DR-X, DMA, FT-IR, UV-Vis-NIR, RMN 31P e 13C and at last, a study of luminescence was made. The hybrid films obtained are transparent and macroscopically homogeneous, however, the MET measures showed the formation of micro-islands of polyphosphate along the material, this fact indicates a bigger fragmentation of the films and this is verified by DMA analysis which shows a smaller resistance of the film with the increase of the concentration of phosphate. Both spectrum FT-IR and RMN analysis of the films, don't show the formation of new bands of their precursors, CMC e NaPO3,....

Objective: Histomorphometric study to evaluate the biological tissue compatibility of silicone implants suitable for plastic surgery. Methods: Thirty Wistar white rats received subcutaneous implants ande the revestiment of silicone gel Silimed, and randomized into six groups of five animals each, according to the type of implanted material and the time of sacrifice. Eight areas of 60.11 mm2 corresponding to the obtained surgical pieces were analyzed, counting mesenchymal cells, eosinophils, and foreign body giant cells, observing an acceptable biocompatibility in all implants, for subsequent statistical analysis by Tukey test. Results: Silicone gel showed inflammation slightly greater than for other groups, with tissue reactions varying from light to moderate, whose result was the formation of a fibrous capsule around the material, recognized by the organism as a foreign body. Conclusion: In general, it is possible to affirm that silicone gel had acceptable levels of biocompatibility, confirmed the rare presence of foreign body giant cells, and when of the rupture, formed a fibrous capsule around the material, separating the material of the organism.
