The biological principles of osseointegration caused the rehabilitation treatment with osseointegrated implant become a safe, well alternative accepted by the dental community for the high success rate, allowing the preparation of functional and aesthetic prostheses in edentulous and partial patients. We passed the initial phase of functional vision for an aesthetic approach, too, depending on the demands of the patient and the quest for excellence by professionals. Over these last years, implant treatment has undergone many changes in surgical and prosthetic protocols. The less invasive surgical techniques and the development of restorative materials, especially ceramics allow the prosthetic rehabilitation of high functional quality and aesthetics. The installation of implants in sockets immediately after extraction of teeth involved by fracture, periodontal disease, endodontic lesions, is part of the arsenal of techniques for rehabilitating a number of advantages that we get to the outcome of multidisciplinary treatment. For this, we must consider several criteria in its planning as a fundamental unit, adjacent teeth, multiple losses, system, form and number of implants, type of retention of the prosthesis components, the patient expectation of the outcome perspective, gingival biotype, standard of ridge resorption, the smile line, etc. occlusal analysis. With the three-dimensional placement of the implant can immediately join the biological processes of repair of the socket, implant osseointegration, speeding treatment time. Much has been made by companies in the surface treatment of endosseous implants to be osseointegration shortened and restorative procedures started earlier, bringing benefits to the patient and professional. Among the main advantages we can emphasize the preservation of the structures adjacent to the teeth replaced, minor resorption of bone tissue involved... The aim of this work was to evaluate the corrosion resistance of AuPdAgIn alloy, submitted to laser beam welding, in 0.9% NaCl solution, using electrochemical techniques. Measures of the open circuit potential (OCP) versus time were applied to electrochemical experiments, as well as potentiodynamic direct scanning (PDS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) on AuPdAgIn alloy, submitted to laser beam welding in 0.9% NaCl solution. Some differences observed in the microstructure can explain the results obtained for corrosion potential, Ecorr, and corrosion resistance, Rp. EIS spectra have been characterized by distorted capacitive components, presenting linear impedance at low frequencies, including a non-uniform diffusion. The area of the laser weld presented corrosion potential slightly superior when compared to the one of the base metal. The impedance results suggest the best resistant corrosion behavior for laser weld than base metal region. This welding process is a promising alternative to dental prostheses casting.

The Combination Syndrome represents an important pathologic condition of the masticatory system that requires a complex rehabilitation treatment. The presence of flaccid mucosa is one of the most common features due to bone resorption of the pre-maxilla caused by anterior hyperfunction of the mandibular teeth on the maxillary complete denture, where the impact of oclusal loading in this region results in movement of the maxillary prosthesis into the ridge, resulting in increased resorption of the residual ridge, internal misfit and loss of the retention of the maxillary complete denture. The presence of flaccid mucosa, in such cases, leads to problems of support and stability of the maxillary complete denture, which can be treated by surgical reduction of the thickness of the tissue or using specific techniques of fabrication of prostheses. This article describes the oral rehabilitation of a patient with the Combination Syndrome where the surgical reduction of flaccid mucosa was not performed, using a modified technique of functional impression in two steps, with the objective of generating forces and less distortion in flaccid mucosa during functional impression.

Introduction: the oral rehabilitation in edentulous patients using removable complete dentures is a classic treatment, easily accessible, and presenting satisfactory results. However, to succeed in this type of treatment, stability is an extremely important factor. The neutral zone technique for the production of complete dentures determines the oral cavity space for the positioning of teeth and denture base that provide a neutralization of the forces delivered by lips, cheeks, and tongue, providing better stability and retention of prostheses, which is indicated in cases with history of difficulties in adapting the conventional mandibular denture. Objective and case report: this paper aimed to describe a clinical case report of the oral rehabilitation of a patient with paraprosthetic muscles hypertonicity through removable complete dentures produced by the neutral zone technique, using condensation silicone. Final considerations: the use of condensation silicone for the development of the neutral zone technique showed to be a good alternative for the development of this clinical case, providing satisfactory stability and retention of the complete mandibular denture.

The use of different methods and materials should be considered during the planning of implant-supported prostheses. Complications such as fractures of the acrylic resin base, wear and fracture of teeth can occur frequently, creating the need for careful planning for each patient, which can make the selection of the type of treatment more complex. Thus, this article describes the oral rehabilitation of a completely edentulous patient with bimaxillary fixed implant-supported prosthesis, with complaints on aesthetics, loss of vertical dimension and fracture of acrylic resin teeth of the upper arch. After the restoration of vertical dimension, his dentures were replaced with new bimaxillary implant-supported fixed prostheses, ceramic and acrylic resin were used as veneering material for maxilla and mandible, respectively. At the end of the treatment, the patient received bimaxillary flat occlusal splints to protect the teeth and implants of possible parafunctional habits. The approach for the treatment allowed a quick and effective resolution, with aesthetic and functional outcomes very favorable for the patient.

Purpose: The objective of this article is to describe a method to construct an intraoralacrylic device that permits a reline material to be added to the inner surface of thepalatal plate.Materials and Methods: Fifteen 60-day-old adult female rats (Rattus NorvegicusAlbinus Wistar), weighing 150 to 250 g were used for this study and allocated to threegroups (n = 5): G1, animals wearing a heat-polymerized acrylic resin palatal plate(Lucitone 550) for 14 days; G2, animals wearing a heat-polymerized acrylic resinpalatal plate (Lucitone 550) relined with Tokuyama Rebase II for 14 days; and G3,animals maintained under the same conditions as the experimental groups, withoutwearing palatal plates for 14 days. The manipulation of the animals followed theguidelines of the Brazilian College of Animal Experimentation, under the approval ofthe animal ethics committee of the State University of Ponta Grossa. The palatal platescovered the whole palate, were fixed in the molar region with light-cured resin, andwere kept there for 14 days. The animals received a paste diet and water ad libitum. Before and after the trial period, the rats were weighed individually on a precisionscale. Statistical analysis was performed using a two-way analysis of variance (α =0.05) test for comparison of the animals’ weight (g) at time 0 and after 14 days ofusing the palatal plate. Results: No statistical differences were observed regarding the weight of the animalsamong the experimental groups in the study. Conclusions: The individual master impressions, the molar teeth coverage, and themethod of cementation with nonadhesive composite resin provided good stability forthe palatal plate showed in this study, not disturbing the eating habits and nutritionof the animals. This model seems reproducible, offering adequate histopathologicalevaluation. Differences in tissue morphology exist between the animals that used thepalatal plate and the animals that did not use this device. Use of these palatal platescould clarify how prostheses bring changes in the palatal mucosa of users.

The objective of this study is to report the clinical use of 2% Uncaria tomentosa gel against denture stomatitis (DS) as an alternative treatment. The patient was a 65-year-old, denture-wearing woman. At the clinical examination, her palate showed hyperplasic and erythematous mucosa indicating DS type II. DS is a chronic oral disease that affects denture wearers. It occurs as an inflammatory reaction in denture-wearing patients under maxillary prostheses. Candida albicans has been reported as the principal etiological agent. An alternative treatment, the topical application of a gel of 2% U. tomentosa three times a day for 1 week was given to the patient. After 1 week of this treatment, she had significantly reduced signs of the disease. Despite the existence of a great number of antifungal agents, treatment failure is observed frequently. Phytotherapy is becoming more popular worldwide. Currently, the most promising medicinal Amazonian herb is U. tomentosa (Willd.) DC., known as Cat's Claw. Studies of the chemical and pharmacological properties of this medicinal plant have allowed researchers to develop indications for its use. This report demonstrates the effectiveness of U. tomentosa against DS.
