Introduction: Sedentary behavior is characterized by individuals who designed much of the day sitting or lying down activities, even if such conduct regular physical activity. Over the years people tend to be less active, worsening the quality of life. For healthy aging is necessary for the individual to be constantly active, and moving activities improve mood and quality of life, though little is known of the influence of sedentary behavior in these variables. Aim: To investigate the association between sedentary time, quality of life and mood states of elderly women engaged in physical activity. Methodology: The study included 68 elderly women who belong to the Physical Activity Program for the Elderly (PROFIT), for at least 6 months. These answered the Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire, the Pentacle Welfare and IPAQ Short Version. The Pep States List Reduced and Illustrated (LEA-RI) was applied before and after a workout and before and after three times of sedentary behaviors. To evaluate the difference of sedentary behavior time average for each domain of quality of life was conducted the analysis of the 95% confidence interval for the STATA program version 12.0 and to the moods list data a non-parametric test - test binomial using SPSS version 17.0 program and has adopted a p≤0,05. Results: A moderate intensity physical activity was the most practiced (939.5 ± 650.2 min / week) and the activity most frequently performed in sedentary time was watching television (187.6 ± 96,4min / day). In general, the quality of life for the elderly is considered good (98.39%) and the disease is most prevalent hypertension (29.47%). After a physical activity older felt less useless, less shy and less fear and after a sedentary behavior, felt less agitated and less useless. In relation between the domains of QOL and sedentary behavior time, there were no statistical differences. Conclusion: Elderly active even after a sedentary behavior...

This study was qualitative in nature and aimed to investigate the possible interference of spiritual experiences with the subjective perception of quality of life. The perspectives of civil servants in education and health services were compared. The study was developed through bibliographic and exploratory research, and the instrument used for data collection for the exploratory research was the WHOQOL-bref, which was applied in two stages: before and after experiences with spiritual activities. The purposive sample used in this study was composed of civil servants working in health and education administrative sectors of the Brazilian Unified Health System and a State University, respectively, with the intention of broadening the understanding about the perception of quality of life in civil servants from different sectors. The exploratory research of the study was carried out in three stages. The first was a two-phase data collection, before and after experiences with spiritual activities offered to civil servants who worked in the health care field, as well as the analysis of the results of this step. The second stage was the collection of data before and after experiences with spiritual activities offered to civil servants who worked in the administrative sector of education in a public university, besides the analysis of the results of this step. The third stage consisted of a comparison of the results obtained in the preceding two steps. The data resulting from the use of the research instrument for both samples were analyzed via Thematic Content Analysis. A questionnaire containing 26 questions based on four main themes was used. The first two questions were related to perceived quality of life and health satisfaction and they were not part of the specific domains. The other 24 questions were divided between the four themes: physical domain, psychological domain, domain of social relations, and environmental domain. The results...

Objective: This study aimed to understand how patients with Hansen's Disease perceive self-care from the complexity perspective. Methods: Qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study based on the Collective Subject Discourse. Results: Sample composed of 15 subjects, most of whom were married males (66.6%) with a mean age of 52.3 years and were classified in the polarized forms of the disease. The following themes emerged from the DCS synthesis: having Hansen's Disease, drug therapy, self-care and lifestyle. The study provided visibility to the vertical model, which is largely hegemonic in the tradition of public health care policies, showing concern about only treating the disease, disregarding the complex relationships involved. Conclusion: Acknowledging these limitations and setting strategies to change them in favor of the dialogue among interprofessional team members are challenges to further develop self-care practices and to empower patients in relation to treatment and disease.

The objective of this descriptive research was to investigate the perception of health care professionals who work in Pediatric Intensive Care Units in relation to the process of death and dying. The study was undertaken between June and August 2011, with data collected through structured interviews and subjected to statistical analysis. Of the 25 participants, 72% perceived death as a natural process of life, 60% felt compassion – a feeling that did not interfere in caring for the patient, 52% related that they had not received any preparation about the process of death or dying and 76% showed interest in taking a refresher course on the issue. Greater discussion is necessary about academic training, and the offer of educational activities and space for exchanging experiences, such that the workers may better understand and deal with feelings and limitations regarding death.

For the verification of the subjective perceived of exertion it was used scales proposal for Foster (1998), to the end of each session of training. The collected data had been kept in computer file, producing information in the descriptive plan (measured central and dispersion) and the inferencial for the analysis of variance for the model with a factor complemented with the test of multiple comparisons of Tukey and linear correlation of Pearson. The results present as it has detached: i) the exercises specifics as content of bigger frequency in the training; ii) the test of vertical jump presented difference between the positions and, finally, iii) the subjective perceived of exertion between coach and athlete, he points that the trainer overestimates in 9,76% the perceived of the athletes. Such data are argued how much to the contents of the training as well as the load used in the interior of the process of preparation and monitoring of the training.

Departing from a Merleau-Pontyan concept of linguistic mediation of perception, we ran a cognitive experiment, having the goal of studying how the perception of ambiguous figures is expressed in verbal linguage. Two of the figures mix biological and technological forms, while the third mixes two biological forms. We asked a group of a 120 undergraduate Biology students from State University of São Paulo (UNESP) to write about their perception of three ambiguous figures. We made an analysis of descriptive categories that appeared in the responses and used a qualitative method (Discourse of the Collective Subject) to reconstruct the main features of the linguistic expression of preceptual processes. In conclusion, we found in these.

This paper aims to make a survey about the inclusion of children in need of special care in all schools and day nurseries (publics and privates) in ?Dois Córregos? city, in São Paulo. We interviewed 144 teachers and 14 school principals in 14 educational establishments ? 5 private schools, 5 state-owned schools, 2 municipal schools, 1 municipal nursery and 1 philanthropic nursery. The research aimed to investigate possible prejudices against the children in need of special care; verify if the schools have adequate infrastructure to receive the students in need of special care; and verify if the professionals who work in the schools are receiving (or received) specific training to work on this inclusion process. The results indicated that teachers who don?t work with children in need of special care are very insecure in receiving them. It?s evident that there are a lot of doubts and uncertainties about the inclusion system. In general, schools don?t have adequate infrastructure and most of the time the included students are those who have internal deficits, which are not evident.

This study approached perceptions of mental illness by nineteen professionals who work in a Family Health Unit, by means of graphic representations (drawings). We used qualitative methods. Data was collected by means of a Presentative-Expressive Procedure. Four themes were identified using Thematic Analysis. The professionals associate mental disorders with: health care, medical-centered view, exclusion/inclusion, social environment. These perceptions are related to a biological paradigm, favoring the reproduction of prejudices about mental illness. The analysis also emphasizes the importance of a wide range of cares, while considering how difficult it may be for the professionals. We conclude that it is necessary to invest on professional preparation, in an attempt to transform ideoaffective contents presented by the subjects’ imaginary.
