The late industrialization, together with other factors, ended up directing much of the rural population to cities, without adequate planning, resulting in high density and irregular settlements in risk areas to low-income population. The man settled in the urban site to break environmental laws that eventually causing an imbalance in the natural environment, causing or exacerbating the shortage in availability of water resources. This situation also happened in Presidente Prudente, especially in the east, the focus of this research. Therefore, this study aims to understand the causes of degradation of waterways in urban areas, focusing on society's relationship with nature and its consequences on environmental quality and quality of life of urban population located in the watershed of stream of Gramado, Presidente Prudente - São Paulo. In this catchment there is the irregular deposition of solid waste in the valley, remnants of old pollution release of domestic sewage and industrial (currently collected and intended for treatment), accelerated processes of erosion in some areas of intensive use of the relief and consequently, the bed siltation of streams that are part of the basin. The quality of urban life was seen through socioeconomic and environmental indicators, which were identified through questionnaires to residents, according to local residence in the landscape, divided into three segments: the tops 60 residents, 90 residents and 112 residents in the areas in valley bottoms. With these data we can relate them to the degradation of the basin and aggregate them to the quality of life of residents. Field studies were needed to visualize the changes that occurred in the watershed over the past three years, with the implementation of works aimed at improvements to the community as the conduit stream of Gramado and construction and operation of Sewage Pumping Stations... Hypothermia is a common phenomenon in the perioperative period, and it affects 60 to 90% of patients submitted to anesthetic-surgical procedures. In order to minimize its incidence, warming methods are used. Such methods can be passive, such as orthopedic cotton, sheets and blankets, or active, such as warm-air blankets and thermal mattresses. In this scenario, the present study aimed at comparing two warming methods used in the intraoperative period. Patients submitted to abdominal surgery in the specialties of gynecology and gastric surgery from August to September 2010 were included in the study. After randomization, they were divided into two groups: one using a thermal blanket (group I) and one using orthopedic cotton (group II). At last, 9 patients were included. The variables for each question were considered according to occurrence frequency. Comparison between groups was performed by Student’s t test. With the purpose to analyze whether there was an association, the chi-square test or Fisher’s Exact test was used. Whenever it was applicable for multiple comparisons, Tukey’s test was utilized; p values < 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant for analysis. The sample comprised 6 males and 3 females submitted to gynecological and gastric surgeries. Their mean age was 48 years for group I and 46.2 years for group II. A predominance of general anesthesia was observed. The time of permanence in the operating room ranged from 80 to 360 minutes. With regard to warming parenteral solutions, the procedure was performed on 5 patients, and infusion of warm solution into the abdominal cavity was performed on 50% of the sample. Concerning the warming method used, 5 patients used a thermal blanket. In view of the results presented, it was not possible to conclude which warming method should be used due to sample size

With the increasing demand for electricity, the retraining of transmission lines is necessary despite environmental restrictions and crossings in densely populated areas to build new transmission and distribution lines. Solution is reuse the existent cables, replacing the old conductor cables for new cables with higher capacity power transmission, and control of sag installed. The increasing demand for electrical power has increased the electric current on the wires and therefore, it must bear out temperatures of 150°C or more, without the risk of the increasing sag beyond the established limits. In the case of long crossings or densely populated areas, sag is due to high weight of the cable on clearance. The cable type determines the weight, sag, height and the towers dimensions, which are the items that most influence the investment of the transmission line. Hence, to reduce both cost of investment and maintenance of the line, the use of a lighter cable can reduce both number and the height of the towers, with financial return on short and long term. Therefore, in order to increase the amount of transmitted energy and reduce the number of built towers and sag, is recommended in the current work substitute the current core material (steel or aluminium) for alternatives alloys or new materials, in this case a composite, which has low density, elevated stiffness (elasticity module), thus apply the pultruded carbon fiber with epoxy resin as matrix systems and perform the study of the kinetics of degradation by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), according to their respective standards

In most brazilian cities, urban growth has occurred without adequate planning. Consequently, portions of the city were being occupied, often areas unfit for use and occupation of land, causing risks to local residents and decline of urban environmental quality. One of the most frequent problems is the riverbank occupation, causing the deforestation of the riparian vegetation. Given the above, this paper aimed to map the urban sprawl of Rio Claro/SP, as well as riparian vegetation in the vicinity of Corumbataí in the area including the urban area. For this purpose, GIS techniques were used in order to prepare the thematic map of urban expansion, as well as a map of the riparian vegetation through interpretation of aerial photographs in the environment of ARCGIS. From the maps, an analysis of “Plano Diretor” was made in order to verify if the current occupation of urban land meets the stipulations of this legal instrument

In the present work the thermal characteristics of gels and xerogels of Silica/organic hybrids derived from different concentrations of GPTS-TEOS were investigated by thermal analysis (TG, DTA, and DSC). The preparation of gels of the Silica/organic hybrid matrix was held through the sol-gel process, consisting by the hydrolysis of alkoxides GPTS and TEOS in proportion (1:1) and (1:2) that was promoted in acidic conditions under reflux and stirring at 80oC/2h, producing the matrix in the colloidal state (sol). Gels were prepared by addition of NH4OH to the sol, promoting gelation of sol in sealed plastics containers. Part of the gels samples was analyzed by TG, DTS and DSC techniques in order to characterize water loss and degradation of the polymeric “epoxy” groups present in the structure of the silica derived from the GPTS alkoxide. Another set of samples was dried at 80oC/48h to obtain xerogels (dried gels) and analyzed by the same techniques. We obtained the characteristics temperatures of the matrix by the techniques DTA, DSC and TG, under measurements of thermal analysis until 800oC and 600oC in case of DSC. By thermal analysis (TG, DTA, and DSC) the main endothermic events (loss of water, melting, pyrolysis) and exothermic events (burning of the polymer) of the GPTS-TEOS matrix were determined

The objective of the present work was to investigate the potential of cyanobacteria isolated from different environments in decolorizing eleven different types of textile dyes. For inoculum preparation 50 ml of BG-11 medium were used for the cyanobacteria Leptolyngbia CENA103, Leptolyngbia CENA104 and Phormidium autumnale UTEX1580 and 50 ml of SWBG-11 medium for Phormidium sp., Leptolyngbya sp. and Synecochoccus sp. Test tubes containing 10 ml of liquid medium and 0.02% of each dye (remazol, indigo blue, indanthrene blue RCL, drimaren blue CL-R, dispersol blue C-2R, drimaren red CL-5B, dispersol red C- 4G, indanthrene red FBB, drimaren yellow CL-R, palanil yellow 3G and indanthrene yellow 5GF) were inoculated with cyanobacteria. A spectrophotometer was used to verify the maximum absorbance of each dye and the percentage of decolorization and also thin layer chromatography (TLC). The results showed that all the tested cyanobacteria were capable to remove more than 50% of some dyes. The present study confirmed the capacity of cyanobacteria in decolorize and possibly degrade structurally different textile dyes, suggesting the possibility of their application in bioremediation studies. The data are promising, and will lead to further studies of dye degradation and its toxicicity.
