This paper aims to discuss a project of translating part of the work Muse & Drudge, by the award-winning African-American poet Harryette Mullen, into Brazilian Portuguese, with focus on a single poem. In Muse & Drudge Mullen combines cultural critique with humor, lyricism and punning, which has unfolded the frontiers between cultural and racial identity, and has put into question the opposition between popular and high culture. This work analyzes to which extent the proposed translation produces a new set of intertextual relations that might culminate in unexpected meanings. It is a goal to understand how the effects of such unexpected meanings reveal the encounter between the so-called racial black/white dichotomy, predominant in the US culture, and the notion of miscegenation and racial democracy in Brazil.

This paper addresses issues regarding my translation of selected poems by Harryette Mullen, a rising African-American contemporary poet, whose dense poetry works on the black oral tradition, the experimentalism of writing, the (African-American) pop music, in addition to delving into issues such as the representation of (black) female sexuality. One of the complex aspects of her poetry is the notion of miscegenation, conceived as an aesthetic argument and as a constitutive condition of the identity of multiracial Americans. This concept establishes a textuality that questions the accessible intelligibility generally expected from black American poetry, insofar as a mosaic of dissonant voices are brought to light in her text, which makes it difficult to categorize. In Brazil, especially among politically engaged Afro-Brazilians, there has been criticism towards the praise of miscegenation, since the latter has been considered to support of the myth of racial democracy. Building on these aspects, we investigate the extent to which it is a challenge to translate her poetry based on miscegenation and hybridity as aesthetic constructs especially when taking into account the discursive locus of readers identified with an Afro-Brazilian aesthetic, particularly critical of miscegenation. From the point of view of translation, we evaluate the extent to which her poetry could be read by the predominant cultural discourse in Brazil, inclined to favor miscegenation as an integral concept of national identity, as a seductively experimental poetry. In view of this, one wonders whether this perspective makes hers poetry less black for Afro-Brazilian literary standards.

The flow of Ricci is an analytical tool, and a similar equation for heat geometry, a diffusive process which acts on a variety of metrics Riemannian and thus can be used in mathematics to understand the topology of varieties and also in the study geometric theories. Thus, the Ricci curvature plays an important role in the General Theory of Relativity, characterized as a geometric theory, which is the dominant term in the Einstein field equations. The present work has as main objectives to develop and apply Ricci flow techniques to general relativity, in this case, a three-dimensional asymptotically flat Riemannian metric as a set of initial data for Einstein equations and establish relations and comparisons between them.

The female identity in relation to the multiplicity of roles of contemporary women and their evolution in the labor market is the focus of the work that is developed from studies of French line Discourse Analysis refered to Michel Pcheux and Michel Foucault. The objective is to reflect on the discursive mechanisms of print media, focusing on Veja magazines covers, which, by its verbal and visual language, constructs meaning effects and disseminates certain social thruths about the female changes. Considering that this media aspect plays an important role on society's opinion formation, it is worth to investigate, analyse and describe the elements present on the covers, as seduction and persuasion objects. The work analysis material is formed by six covers published by Veja magazine in the period of 1968-2012, which raise the theme of women in the labor market and show us their evolution and the changes in the representations about the female universe and the work in society

This paper aimes to contribute to the analyzes of Caldas and Wood Jr (1997) concerning to the concept of identity. That concept has been developed in Organization Studies under the propositions of Albert and Whetten (1985). In that way, identity concept has been defined by the following characteristics: centrality, distinctiveness and continuity. Nevertheless, a new paradigm has been emerging within social science. In this paper, we present a synthesis on how the concept of identity has been discussed in Social Psychology and Cultural Studies. For both theoretical perspectives, the ideas of centrality and durability are put into doubt, as identity is seen as dynamic and fragmentary. Besides that, we intend to show how the new paradigm is getting formed within Organizational Studies, especially considering international context. Considering that the emerging organizational ideas concerning identity show proximity with those proposed by Social Psychology and Cultural Studies, we raise possible questions that the new paradigm will have to face.

This paper discusses how, through the creation of Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Company) in 1966, an idealized Brazilian female body was constructed and used to help manufacture a national identity, reinforcing the stereotype of the sexualized Brazilian woman. As it was often associated with sex tourism, this stereotype received much criticism and led to a negative image of Brazil abroad. However, in the 1990s the official tourism lobby softened the sexy tone of its discourse, and in 1999 Embratur received an award from the World Tourism Organization for its campaign to help fight the exploitation of children and youth by sexual tourism. In order to better understand how this change in the idealized Brazilian female body unfolded, it is important to deconstruct beauty standards focusing on those that apply to Brazilian women as seen from abroad and their relationship to modern consumer culture. Assuming that the cultural analysis of the female body emerges as an important issue in the field of Social Science, the focus on body image can be viewed as a key element in discussions about the construction of national identity.

The representation of the work of memory and the search for identity in The voyage out by Virginia Woolf In The Voyage Out, Virginia Woolf portrays the protagonist by showing her inner thoughts. Strategy that analogically allows the conception of the esthetic work of the author as being close to the Freudian memory supported by life and death drives. The objective of this study is to show how the psychic states, revealed by the protagonist, are articulated with the work of memory and the search for identity in the novel.
