Contração de polimerização e expansão higroscópica de resinas compostas: análise pela técnica de video-imagem

To evaluate the volumetric changes due to polymerization and thermocycling on different resin-composites. Methods: Thirteen A2 Universal Dentin shade resin-composites (n = 10) from eight manufacturers were evaluated (4Seasons, Grandio, Venus, Amelogen Plus, P90, Z350, Esthet-X, Amaris, Vita-l-escence, Natural-Look, Charisma, Z250 and Opallis). The polymerization shrinkage percentage (PS) was calculated using an image measurement device (ACUVOL - Bisco Dental). Equal volumes of material, standardized by a semisphere polyurethane matrix (d = 3mm) were used and, after 5 minutes of relaxation, the baseline volume measurements were obtained with 18 J of energy dose from the LED light-curing unit. Measurements were obtained after 5 minutes and PS values calculated. Specimens were stored in a drydark environment for 24 hours and re-measured. Specimens were then thermocycled in distilled water between 5oC and 55oC for 20,000 cycles, subjected to another volume measurement at 5,000 cycle intervals. Specimens were gently dried prior to each measurement. Results: Repeated measurements were made using ANOVA (α = 0.05) showed that all resin-composite volumes were influenced by the number of cycles. Volumes at 5 minutes post-polymerization (12.47 ± 0.08) were significantly lower than those at baseline (12.80 ± 0.09). Volumes at 24 hours (12.43 ± 0.19) were insignificantly lower than those at 5 minutes postpolymerization. With regards to the impact of thermocycling, all specimens showed statistically significant increases in volume after 5,000 cycles (13.04 ± 0.22). Although statistically different from those after 5,000 cycles, there was no statistically significant difference between volumes measured at 10,000 (12.87±0.21), 15,000 (12.92±0.24), and 20,000 (12.84±0.23) cycles. Políticas públicas e direitos de crianças e adolescentes: o papel da mídia na expansão da cidadania

This paper presents results of an evaluation of the quality of the coverage of issues associated to the preservation of rights of children and adolescents in the eight main newspapers of major cities of Bauru (Sao Paulo State) administrative region, from August 2008 to March 2009. In a total of 389 assessed stories, 66% portrayed acts of legal infraction and violence with children and adolescents as victims or perpetrators, with a fragmented and superficial perspective; 34% are greater approaches about public policies aimed at the preservation of social rights. The results show the existence of a smaller number, yet significant, of stories which presented extended and more contextualized approaches. From a general view, we can point out that the contribution given by the media as a form of vigilance over the execution of public policies has been limited, which justifies the concern of demanding, from the mass media, measures to fulfill the role attributed to them by contemporaneous democracies to the strengthening of citizenship.

Saúde, comunicação e nanotecnologia: o papel do debate público para a expansão da cidadania

Amongst thematic networks, strategic laboratories and master and doctorate scholarships awarded by the National Program of Nanotechnology, an actor of great relevance can be distinguished due to its relative absence: the lay people, once more relegated to a secondary agent in Brazilian democracy, although citizens’ views have been increasingly recognized all over the world as an indispensable factor to the science and technology public policies which are intended to be democratic. Whereas Europe and United States have incorporated public values and feelings in the policy planning, Brazil is still waiting for opportunities of public participation in the definition of research guidelines. This paper examines contemporaneous demands of science communication to the strengthening of citizenship, aiming to offer contributions to a debate directed to question the present arrangement — of antidemocratic indifference towards the public — adopted in the formulation of public policies in Brazil.

The current competitive market requires companies to adapt so that they can meet the needs of customers in an agile manner and aimed at the lowest possible cost in their manufacture, be it a product or service. The Toyota Production System is aimed at higher profits through lean manufacturing practices with reduced spending, smaller lots and inventories, generated by market demand. The variety of products makes the setup of the equipment a critical point and it should be reduced as much as possible so it does not affect productivity. The rapid exchange of tools allows with few actions and a modification that time does not exceed one digit on your total time. In this study, a case study showed that only with standardization and use of cheap improvements made it possible to reduce setup time in bottle labeling machine by 98 minutes for a final time of approximately 10 minutes with little investment, demonstrating the feasibility the displayed and a monthly gain tool in bottles at approximately 120,000, generating a performance gain and budget of approximately R$ 94,000.00 per month
