This study compared the hematological and serological analysis of diagnosis of canine ehrlichiosis. The survey of Ehrlichia canis was performed through the evaluation of blood smears from 150 dogs. The serological test was performed on 12 samples selected by the platelet count (less than 170,000 platelets / uL). Serologic testing was performed with the Imunocomb kit - Dot-blot-ELISA. No cytoplasmatic inclusion characteristic of morula of E. canis was found in blood smears. In serologic testing, eight samples were positive for Ehrlichia canis, concluding that thrombocytopenia is an important hematological finding of ehrlichiosis diagnosis and the detection of Ehrlichia canis morulae is uncommon. The serological evaluation Dot-blot ELISA is an accurate and brief diagnosis method of canine ehrlichiosis, been the most appropriate to be used in veterinary practice routine.

It is known that a high microbial count can compromise the stability of medicines, thus reducing their therapeutic efficacy. This work tried to demonstrate that the microbial contamination can be directly related to the inadequate handling of the medicines stored in homes, making it possible to draw strategies to reduce the possible risks of medical therapy offering correct information and advising. The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of the medicines containing paracetamol found in the residences of Américo Brasiliense-SP, using the microbial analysis of non-sterile method described in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia (1988). The medicine samples (30 samples) were obtained directly from the interviewed local residents, who had received new medicine bottles of the same product. An analysis of viable microorganisms (bacteria and fungus) was carried out to identify pathogens found in the collected samples. Although 90% of the analyzed samples have shown some microbial contamination, the results indicated the absence of pathogenic microorganisms, and the total count of viable microorganisms was below the maximum value for non-sterile (104 UFC/g or mL). It was also verified that the local residents stored the medicines in appropriate places, according to the orientations received when they bought the medicines in pharmacies and drugstores, showing the importance of information for the correct use and conservation of pharmaceuticals.

This paper presents a case report of a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) diagnosed in routine dental care. ITP is defined as a decrease in the number of circulating platelets and generally shows oral manifestations. In this light, we show that the general dental practitioner must be ready to detect ITP signs and symptoms, especially oral changes that are not of dental origin, so as to immediately prescribe the proper treatment. Without this treatment, this pathology may well be irreversible and fatal.

Much has been discussed lately about reusing waste in new construction materials and countless studies have been carried out based on this objective. However, before these products can be called “sustainable” and a recycling system can be effectively implemented, it is fundamental for all the aspects involved in this action to be understood, and more important, what are the true gains for the productive sector and what are the benefits for the environment if this was to occur. In order to obtain a general framework for all environmental aspects and potential impacts associated with these products, over their entire life cycle, the most appropriate methodology is the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). In view of the above, the objective of this work is to provide an overview of current studies of LCA, its history, its importance, its standards and the methodology employed and its applications related to civil construction. It is expected, to obtain a more complete scenario of the influences from a study of LCA, as well as establishing a contribution for the assessment of specific products and processes for civil construction, disseminating the importance of the use of this tool within the sector.

The question related to recyclable material has been pointed by environmental researchers as one of the most serious urban problems today. Therefore, the importance of disclosure and clarification related to recycling techniques is highlighted, as well as a critical and extensive reflection related to the cultural values of society about current economic rationality that prioritizes a unlimited consumerism. We conducted a survey in the city of Bauru and asked how often people separated recyclable materials for selective collection. We found that 18% of these people have never performed this type of activity. Thus we emphasize the importance of art in creating alternative ways of dealing with the recyclable material, that involves social, economic and cultural needs of a population; contributing to preserve the environment such as the creation of a new rationality.

Although the use of countertransference is a controversial topic and the debate on the participation of the analyst’s mind may go back to the old conception of aptness for the analytical task based on personality or psychological makeup, the fact is that the psychoanalyst’s education involves the elaboration of his unconscious conflicts, turning conscious the pathways of his desire and his symptoms through a process of personal analysis and a long theoretical and technical training in the field of psychoanalysis. This study is a literature review based on studies about the maternal function, which aims at showing the path of recovery of countertransference in psychoanalytic theory and technique and the implication of the analyst’s abilities in the analytical process. This development is tributary of the appreciation of maternal function as a model for interpersonal and therapeutic relationship in Psychoanalysis, due to the paradigm of object relations in the British psychoanalytic tradition, being Donald W.
