Convivendo com o lixo: a vulnerabilidade socioambiental no bairro Jardim Graminha, Leme, Sao Paulo

Urban space occupation occurs in an extremely disordered way. Political, economical and social aspects converge to create a problem that affects mostly poor people who are impelled to occupy areas where social and environmental problems are likely to emerge. Floods, landslides and different forms of pollution have more effects on the most vulnerable groups. In many cases, actions taken by the government legitimate this structure and reinforce its reproduction. This work seeks to confirm both that poor people are vulnerable to social and environmental problems resulting from inappropriate urban solid waste disposal and that the local government contributes to this situation. It is assumed that the issue is related first to the government’s disregard for poor people who live in unhealthy places and, second, to the inability of such people to demand for better living conditions. In this study, a waste disposal area within Jardim Graminha neighborhood in Leme (São Paulo) was selected to be analyzed by means of systematic observation. The study clearly shows that poor people living near that area where different types of garbage are disposed are vulnerable and the government does not control the situation. It is also pointed out that governmental intervention and the use of political and technical tools are necessary for planning and managing the area to mitigate these problems and to decrease poor people’s social and environmental vulnerability.

Poluentes orgânicos persistentes em ar interior: desenvolvimento de método de extração em adsorvente para amostragem ativa

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances extraordinarily toxic and persistent in the environment. Due to these properties, POPs are targets of the Stockholm Convention which aims to provide means to eliminate production and use by encouraging the reduction and, where possible, eliminating the release of these contaminants to the environment. One of the articles of this _Convention aims to assess the basal levels of such substances in the environment to monitor both the reduction of release to the environment, and to assess human exposure, using analyzes of milk and air for example. Although efforts to control POPs production and release to the environment have been made, data about their levels in Brazil are still scarce, mainly in the atmosphere or indoor environment. Considering the permanence of people inside its house, this study presents a method for POP extraction from XAD-2 sorbent employed in indoor air sampling, with identification and quantification by GC-ECD. GC-ECD linear range of the studied analytes, congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) (28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 and 180), DDTs and their metabolites (DDDs, DDEs) and endosullan (isomers c - and 13 - and metabolite endosulfan sulfate) ranged between 0.5 and 16.0 ng mL-I with r2 > 0.967. The method developing consist of selecting the extraction solvent system by agitation (90 rpm, 1 hour) with n-hexan,e (2 mL) or n-hexane:acetone (1:1, v/v) (2 mL), concentration the extract with a gentle N2 stream, and evaluation of breakthrough with passage or air through the fortified XAD-2 cartridge before extraction, employing a low volume air suction pump (Pump Model 224 universal-PCXR8; 5-5000 mL min-1, SKC Inc., Eighty Four, PA, USA), Calibrator Dry-Cal DC-Lite (BIOS, Butler, NJ, USA)). Processo de flotação no tratamento da manipueira originada da fabricação de farinha de mandioca

Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o tratamento da manipueira pelo processo de flotação, visando estabelecer os melhores parâmetros operacionais a serem adotados, sem o uso de agentes químicos. Foram realizados os tratamentos em dois tipos de processo de flotação: por ar dissolvido e ar induzido, sendo as colunas desenvolvidas em acrílico e PVC para operação contínua em uma planta piloto. Os dois sistemas de flotação não demonstraram diferenças em relação à recuperção de proteínas, amidos e matéria graxa, porém, o processo de flotação por ar dissolvido torna a manipueira diluída devido ao volume de água utilizada, o que acaba gerando um volume de resíduo ainda maior e aumentando o custo do processo. Utilizando o processo por ar induzido, foram realizados ensaios variando vazão e temperatura, sendo os melhores resultados obtidos nas seguintes condições: vazão na faixa entre 120 e 420 mL/min e temperatura na faixa de 33 a 36 °C. Foi observada uma redução nos percentuais de remoção de matéria graxa e proteínas de 44,4% e 32,8%, respectivamente.

A contribuição do projeto de identidade corporativa na redução da poluição visual nas cidades

One of the actual biggest problems in big towns is the visual pollution. The advertising has become a necessity for any type of business, resulting in the use of as urban spaces as possible like fronts structures, lights, with too many colors and details to keep the attention of sight, thus becoming an important problem for the social and cultural coexistence. The work of graphic designer can reduce this problem through the concepts of visual identity applied on the enterprise building front, giving harmony in the colors and spaces where they can apply the advertising without to attack the urban beauty and esthetics.

A contribuição do projeto de identidade coorporativa na redução da poluição visual

Among Richard Wagner´s work output one finds the Tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung, composed of four stories interconnected by the same plot. The theme is mythological and involves dramatis personae taken from the nordic universe. This article examines Erda, one of the protagonists of the story as she is called in the musical drama. This article will consist of a series of pertinent questions posed in order to fully understanding of the character and its role in the plot, the vocal type assigned to it and the co-relation between its Leitmotiv and the musical interweaving created by the composer, besides exploring other themes that bear direct relationship with the same.

Estudo hidrodinâmico quali-quantitativo de uma unidade de flotação por ar dissolvido (FAD): o efeito do dispositivo de coleta de água flotada

The main article aim was to investigate the collecting system of a dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit in pilot scale. Referring to the collecting system position, two options were analyzed: (i) top manifold and (ii) bottom manifold, pipes or plates. Qualitative and quantitative essays were performed, as image and stimulusresponse tests, respectively. The results of the essays standardized were adjusted by N-continuous stirred tank reactors in series and theoretical models of dispersion (low and high). The bottom manifold (plates with orifices) was more appropriate. The results pointed out that the N-continuous stirred tank reactors in series model was more adequate to describe the hydrodynamic behavior of the DAF unit.

Variabilidade espacial da umidade relativa do ar no interior de uma casa de vegetação em clima tropical

Greenhouse with natural ventilation is widely used in tropical countries, and little knowledge is available about how this type of structure affects the spatial variability of agroclimatic variables. The aim of this study was to analyse the spatial variability of relative humidity inside a greenhouse with natural ventilation. The measurement of relative humidity was done at 114 points inside the greenhouse at 9, 12 and 16 hours and on heights of 0.3, 1.2 and 2.0 m. The acquired data were processed by the geostatistical software GS+ and maps were generated and displayed for each time and height using the Surfer 10.3.705 software. The results showed that there were variations in the spatial distribution of relative humidity inside the greenhouse.
