Tratamento da mordida aberta esquelética em adultos com a técnica Multiloop Edgewise Archwire

O tratamento da mordida aberta anterior em pacientes adultos apresenta muitas limitações. A terapia cirúrgica é a mais adequada para esses casos; no entanto, por razões psicológicas, alguns pacientes rejeitam essa forma de tratamento. Diante da necessidade de tratamento desses pacientes, esse artigo se propõe a apresentar um caso de mordida aberta anterior severa tratada com a técnica Multiloop Edgewise Archwire (MEAW). Ao final do tratamento foi atingida oclusão ideal, com função adequada e estética agradável, demonstrando que a técnica aplicada foi efetiva para a correção da mordida aberta anterior, sem cirurgia.

This work has the background one of the poorest places in South America, but that comes up reflections and interpretations regarding the life and geographical science. To understand this, it was necessary to rescue the local historic process, report their specificities, thus, drawing a parallel with the geographical theories. Considerações anestésicas para realização da cirurgia de facoemulsificação em cães

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in dogs. It is defined as an opacity in the lens and is independent of resulting visual deficit. Although there are a growing number of studies related to drug therapy of cataract, the treatment is still considered exclusively surgical. Among the techniques used to remove cataract, phacoemulsification is the best performer. Anesthesia in intraocular surgery has several peculiarities, which are essential to successfully conduct phacoemulsification in dogs. In these patients, a safe and effective anesthesia requires the maintenance of intraocular pressure close to normal, preventing the activation of the oculo-cardiac reflex and complete immobilization of the eye. The appropriate conditions for such surgical procedures can be established through the use of drugs from different pharmacological groups for premedication, induction and maintenance of anesthesia, making a balanced anesthesia. This work was compiled from a careful review of the literature on anesthesia in cataract surgery. Considerations on the pre-medication, induction and maintenance of anesthesia are discussed, aiming to contribute to the phacoemulsification becomes more safe and suitable for the anesthesiologist and the surgeon as well as comfortable for dogs undergoing surgery

O uso do Plasma Rico em Plaquetas (PRP) na cirurgia ortopédica

The aim of this work is to study a still little known technique in the Brazilian Veterinary Medicine, that is the use of the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), specifically in the small animals orthopedics, including the concept of PRP, why its use in orthopedics, its production method and application, its indications, vantages and disadvantages, and also evaluate the results achieved through the use of PRP both in Human Medicine as in Veterinary Medicine. Moreover, it aims to establish the feasibility of this technique for its use in veterinary orthopedic surgery, especially as an adjunct in fracture repair

A dimensão estética da educação ambiental nos entendimentos e práticas de arte-educadores e de professores da escola de ensino fundamental

A crise ecológica, considerada reflexo de uma crise social por vários autores, tem na Educação Ambiental (EA) um dos caminhos possíveis na reversão desse quadro. Para isso, acreditamos que ela deva contemplar três dimensões (conhecimentos, participação e valores) que se articulam e se complementam. Particularmente interessadas na dimensão dos valores, voltamo-nos à questão da valorização estética da natureza. A dimensão estética, com destaque aqui para sua associação com a arte em geral, pode contribuir para a construção de uma visão de mundo menos fragmentada, na medida em que propicia ao educando a construção de novos valores e o desenvolvimento da sensibilidade, ampliando a perspectiva desenhada pela cultura em que ele está inserido. Reconhecendo o desafio que significa a abordagem da dimensão estética em projetos de EA, objetivamos com esta investigação, de caráter qualitativo, identificar os entendimentos e práticas de professores e de arte-educadores interessados no trabalho com EA, analisando os limites e possibilidades para o trabalho com essa dimensão. A pesquisa envolveu quatro professores de escolas públicas da cidade de Rio Claro-SP, participantes de um curso de formação docente cujo tema foi a EA e o trabalho com valores, e quatro arte-educadores que realizam trabalhos de EA. Os dados foram coletados a partir das transcrições de filmagens e de relatos das reuniões ocorridas ao longo do referido curso, da análise documental dos Planos de Ensinos e diários dos professores, observação das práticas dos professores, entrevistas e questionários respondidos pelos arte-educadores. Um dos principais aspectos que emergiu da análise dos dados refere-se à necessidade de se romper com o modelo racionalista adotado por nossa sociedade, o qual, dentre outras coisas, nega a sensibilidade a ponto de tornar a dimensão estética... Diagnósticos de Enfermagem Prevalentes de Pacientes em Pós-Operatório de Cirurgia Bariátrica em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva

The goal of this study is to characterize the clinical outline of patients in postoperative of bariatric surgery attended in an Intensive Care Unit and identify the nursing diagnosis presented by these patients in accordance to Taxonomy II of North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA). This is a transversal, descriptive and prospective study that was desenvolved at the Intensive Care Unit of the Clinical Hospital of Botucatu Medical School – UNESP. The population was composed by all the patients who were submitted to the bariatric surgery and were attended at the Intensive Care Unit in the period between June and August of 2010, totalizing 13 patients. The data were collected based on the Nursing History that is composed by the Anamnesis, Physical Examination and Complementary Exams. The results were worked out: a) among the 13 patients studied, 10 are women (76,9%) and 3 men (23,1%); the majority is between 30 and 40 years old; 11 people of 13 are morbid obese, which means that they have Body Mass Index higher than 40 kg/m2; b) It was identified 22 nursing diagnosis and 14 of these were found in 100% of the patients. They belong to the dominions of Activity/Rest, Comfort, Elimination and Changing, Security and Protection, Functions and Relationships. Therefore, in relation to the factors, it was conclude that nursing diagnosis help nurses to understand the unsettled human answers or the risks to disturbance in an individual way, which contributes to plan specific interventions to these patients. It was possible to verify that the stage of the nursing diagnosis that is part of the nursing process should be executed by the nurses systematically, because it has been realized by the nurses’ clinical idea, but not in a systematical way

Mensuração e análise do ph salivar em pacientes com hiperidrose submetidos a cirurgia de simpatectomia videotoracoscópica

The study was performed to verify if there are changes in salivary pH in patients with hyperhidrosis who were treated by Videothoracoscopic Sympathectomy. Twelve patients underwent sympathectomy with clamping the sympathetic chain along the vertebrae T2, T3 and T4, under inhalation and intravenous general anesthesia and with drainage of pneumothorax through probe N° 16. These patients had their saliva collected 1 day before and 7 days after surgery for measurement of pH by the colorimetric method with indicator paper. All patients showed no sign or symptom of hyperhidrosis in the immediate postoperative period, which demonstrates the success of sympathetic denervation on these levels. No patient had compensatory sweating and there was no post-operatively surgical complication. No drug or substance has been administered to patients for the study. The pH results obtained were analyzed using test ´´t´´ Student. Although the average pH in samples obtained after surgery was lower than the preoperative, the test revealed no statistically significant difference (p = 0.181). It is concluded that sympathectomy, an excellent therapeutic and definitive method for hyperhidrosis, does not alter the salivary pH, and so, did not influence the cariogenic process
