This study was developed with the aim of evaluating recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) on non-carcass components of goat kids of three genotypes. It was used 23 male goat kids of three genotypes, being 8 Alpine, 4 ½ Boer + ½ Alpine (½ BA) and 11 ¾ Boer + ¼Alpine (¾ BA), from which 12 received rbST e 11 control. The growth hormone used was the recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) and animals of treatment 1 received the hormone in the amount of 0.3 mg/kg live weight, from 45 days, adjusted in intervals of 14 days. Animals of treatment 2 (control) received saline solution in the same dosage and interval. The ½ BA goats presented a higher proportion of external non-carcass components (head, feet and skin) in relation to Alpine goats. Regarding the vital organs, such as lungs, kidneys and spleen, and the non-carcass components blood, internal fat and perinephric fat, Alpine goats presented higher values than ¾ BA goats. The administration of recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) did not produce effect on proportions and weight of non-carcass components. Proportions and weight of non-carcass components varied in function of genotypes, although animals were slaughtered at similar live weight.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the performance and the liver structure health of Nile tilapia hormonally masculinized or nonmasculinized, reared in cages with two protein levels. Two groups of Nile tilapia of Thai lineage (total 2,400), with 127 g initial average weight, were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments, in a 2x2 factorial arrangement, corresponding to the groups of hormonally masculinized or nonmasculinized fish, and to diet protein level of 28 or 32% of crude protein, with three replicates. After 115 days feeding, there was no interaction between the factors for final weight, weight gain, feed conversion rate, final length and survival. There was no difference between hormonally masculinized and nonmasculinized fish for final weight, weight gain, and survival, which shows the possibility of their production in cages, without the need of hormonal masculinization. Crude protein at 32% in the diet enables a better performance for both groups. Histological changes in the liver - such as increased cell volume, disruption of the cord-like arrangements, and increase of vesicles in the hepatocytes - are found in hormonally masculinized fish, and are more pronounced in fish fed 32% crude protein in the diet.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the shear bond strenght to bovine dentin, during 24h and 30 days with the following variables: resin cements Enforce and Panavia F; aesthetics restorative materials Art Glass, IPS Empress 2 and Targis, with surface treatment with microetching with aluminium oxide, fluoridric acid and silane. Two hundred eighty eight sound bovine teeth from 3 years old animals constituted the samples after inclusion on polyester resin box. lnstron model 430 Universal Testing Machine, a crosshead speed 0,5 mm/min and load cells of 500 Kg, was used for shear bond strenght testing (MPa). The results were statistically analysed by ANOVA The best result was obtained with /PS Empress 2, microetched with aluminium oxide, fluoridric acid and silane, cemented with Panavia F and stored in distilled water, 3f'C during 30 days

The taeniasis-cysticercosis complex is a long known zoonotic parasitosis characteristic of underdeveloped countries. In addition to its public health significance, this parasitosis is cause of economic losses to the beef production chain, and synonymous of technical inadequacy in relation to the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices. The occurrences of both human teniasis and bovine cysticercosis could and should be controlled with basic sanitary measures. However, there is much variation in the occurrence of the disease in cattle, characterizing a low rate of technical development as well as problems related to the adoption of basic sanitation measures. This review describes, in details, the causative agent and its epidemiological chain, besides raising current information about the occurrence of bovine cysticercosis in different regions of Brazil, aiming at the adoption of prophylactic measures by different segments responsible.

The recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) at first, had its widespread use in dairy cows in order to increase milk production. Currently, it has been studied frequently and use their influence both in bovine milk, such as cutting. Its production has been an evolution to the science, using bacteria to produce recombinant DNA. Most authors that have studied and obtained positive results, such as increasing the number of ovarian follicles larger than five millimeters, among others. Its action takes place directly on the ovary, follicles, corpus luteum, the granulosa cells, oviduct, myometrium, endometrium and placenta, where they were found receptors, or indirectly through the release of insuline like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Therefore, the objective of this work is to explain the importance of bST in bovine as well as the usefulness of this, its mechanism of action and the benefits it can bring when combined with other biotechnology, such as superovulation, embryo transfer, synchronization of estrus, and others
