Vectorized algorithms for quadtree construction and descent

This paper presents vectorized methods of construction and descent of quadtrees that can be easily adapted to message passing parallel computing. A time complexity analysis for the present approach is also discussed. The proposed method of tree construction requires a hash table to index nodes of a linear quadtree in the breadth-first order. The hash is performed in two steps: an internal hash to index child nodes and an external hash to index nodes in the same level (depth). The quadtree descent is performed by considering each level as a vector segment of a linear quadtree, so that nodes of the same level can be processed concurrently. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

A mixed-integer LP model for the reconfiguration of radial electric distribution systems considering distributed generation

The problem of reconfiguration of distribution systems considering the presence of distributed generation is modeled as a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) problem in this paper. The demands of the electric distribution system are modeled through linear approximations in terms of real and imaginary parts of the voltage, taking into account typical operating conditions of the electric distribution system. The use of an MILP formulation has the following benefits: (a) a robust mathematical model that is equivalent to the mixed-integer non-linear programming model; (b) an efficient computational behavior with exiting MILP solvers; and (c) guarantees convergence to optimality using classical optimization techniques. Results from one test system and two real systems show the excellent performance of the proposed methodology compared with conventional methods. © 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V. Exigência de treonina digestível para codornas de corte no período de 15 a 35 dias de idade

The digestible threonine (DThr) requirements for meat quails (Coturnix coturnix sp) during growing phase from 15 to 35 days of age were estimated, using 1,020 quails with 15 days of age, of both sexes, distributed in a completely randomized design, with six levels of digestible threonine-0.93; 1.00; 1.07; 1.14; 1.21 and 1.28% in diet, five replications and 34 quails per experimental unit. There was no effect on performance variables, carcass yield and chemical composition and nitrogen balance with the studied increase in digestible threonine levels. There was a linear increase in threonine intake and feed cost per kilogram of body weight gain with increasing levels of digestible threonine. It was concluded that the best level of threonine evaluated was sufficient to meet the requirements of meat quails, in the period from 15 to 35.
