The preventive efficacy of ivermectin and abamectin administered in different routes (subcutaneous, intramuscular and pour-on) and doses (200 and 500mcg kg(-1)) against Cochliomyia hominivorax in the scrotal sac of cattle after castration, was evaluated. Animals from six different farms, in the state of Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais, Brazil were used. For each study, 3045 uncastrated bulls, depending on the number of groups, were selected. On day zero of the study, the procedure was carried out by the method of bloody castration and the animals were treated after this process. The efficacy of ivermectin and abamectin administered via the pour-on (500mcg kg(-1)), subcutaneous (200mcg kg(-1)) as well as the efficacy of abamectin intramuscularly (200mcg kg(-1)) were evaluated. In each experiment, one group of animals was kept as control. The animals were evaluated from the 3rd to the 14th day after castration process/treatment. The efficacy values for both active principles were <= 30% the next day 10 post-treatment (PT), and in five experiments, both ivermectin and abamectin, regardless of the route of administration, were ineffective (0.0%) on the day 10th PT. Based on the results found in this study, conducted in different properties from southeastern Brazil, both ivermectin and abamectin, when used the protocol presented, were considered ineffective in preventing scrotal myiasis in bulls, irrespective of the route of administration and dose used.

Health care waste (HCW) is the type of waste that results from activities performed in health care services during care provision to humans or animals. Presently, according to RDC 306/04, issued in 2004 by Anvisa, and Resolution no. 358/05, by CONAMA, waste groups have the following classification: Group A (biological waste), Group B (chemical waste), Group C (waste containing radionucleotides), Group D (common waste) and Group E (piercing and cutting waste). In Brazil, 149 tons of wastes are collected every day, and HCW corresponds to approximately 1% to 3 % of that total. An efficient way to adequately manage HCW is through the Health Care Waste Management Plan (HCWMP), and it is possible to reduce the risk posed by certain materials in addition to ensuring disposal in an ecologically correct and economical fashion. According to the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the management process enables health care establishments to adequately manage waste. Hence, there is greater control and reduction in the health risks caused by infectious or special waste, in addition to facilitated recycling, treatment, storage, transport and final disposal of solid hospital waste in an environmentally safe fashion. To evaluate the management of HCW of Groups A and D from the Intensive Care Unit of the University Emergency Hospital - FMB - UNESP in the city of Botucatu according to the guidelines presently in force. The waste flow was followed up, and during four random days in the month of September 2011, waste was quantified by estimating daily and monthly values, according to its classification. : In 2011, the University hospital has produced an average of 57,676.8 kg/month of biological and common waste. By adding Groups A and D, during the four days, approximately 209.8 Kg of waste (202.2 Kg of Group A and 7.6 Kg of Group D) were produced in the establishment under study, which... Let G be a group, W a nonempty G-set and M a Z2G-module. Consider the restriction map resG W : H1(G,M) → Pi wi∈E H1(Gwi,M), [f] → (resGG wi [f])i∈I , where E = {wi, i ∈ I} is a set of orbit representatives in W and Gwi = {g ∈ G | gwi = wi} is the G-stabilizer subgroup (or isotropy subgroup) of wi, for each wi ∈ E. In this work we analyze some results presented in Andrade et al [5] about splittings and duality of groups, using the point of view of Dicks and Dunwoody [10] and the invariant E'(G,W) := 1+dimkerresG W, defined when Gwi is a subgroup of infinite index in G for all wi in E, andM = Z2 (where dim = dimZ2). We observe that the theory of splittings of groups (amalgamated free product and HNN-groups) is inserted in the combinatory theory of groups which has many applications in graph theory (see, for example, Serre [12] and Dicks and Dunwoody [10]).

Based on the cohomology theory of groups, Andrade and Fanti defined in [1] an algebraic invariant, denoted by E(G,S, M), where G is a group, S is a family of subgroups of G with infinite index and M is a Z2G-module. In this work, by using the homology theory of groups instead of cohomology theory, we define an invariant ``dual'' to E(G, S, M), which we denote by E*(G, S, M). The purpose of this paper is, through the invariant E*(G, S, M), to obtain some results and applications in the theory of duality groups and group pairs, similar to those shown in Andrade and Fanti [2], and thus, providing an alternative way to get applications and properties of this theory.

In the present paper, it is presented a general view about who they are and the activities science centers and museums mediators develop. The literature points out to the diverse roles attributed to these actors and that the presence of this type of professional is a consolidated practice in non-formal educational institutions. Data obtained among the mediators of a science center during mediated school visits are also presented and discussed, focusing in the role attributed to these professionals, with the objective of characterizing their actions during these visits. The data obtained and analyzed showed that during school visits, the roles that are attributed to the mediators are: (a) mediation of the knowledge involved in the expositions; (b) explanation of the scientific concepts involved in the expositions; (c) presentation of the thematic spaces; (d) reception and organization of groups of visitors; (e) preservation of the physical and moral integrity of the visitors, and the integrity of the physical spaces and their equipments; (f) complementation of the school knowledge, and (g) diffusion of the scientific knowledge.

The present study was developed in two streams from the two different drainage basins located in the mid-southern region of Paraná state. In each stream were evaluated some physical and chemical parameters in open (without streamside vegetation) and shaded (with streamside vegetation) segments. Monthly samplings were carried out from January to December 2007. The following limnological parameters were measured: water temperature, specific conductance, oxygen saturation, pH, turbidity and current velocity. In the same stream were not observed differences among segments from the drainage basins, and nominal values and seasonal pattern have been very similar between open and shaded ambient. A Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed small divergence between streams and segments, with separation of groups with base sampling dates. The results suggest that the region is homogeneous according to physical and chemical water conditions, therefore, stronger influenced for time factor, and diverging seasonal periods associated a climatic region condition.

One of the interests of leisure is social and involves the festival. The holidays can be of different types and occur in different places, having lots of functions as the union of those involved, the development of creativity, fun and identification with the culture. The festivities are part of the play culture. The school, being an environment that deals directly and indirectly with the culture of organized behavior and appreciation of the discipline, often in second person through the formation of relationships, cultural transmission and access to the traditions of the groups around it. The entertainment component of culture in the school also finds himself sidelined in a society of work and a school that educates more to the labor market. The parties almost do not occur at school and when they happen, are given in order to make profits and sell consumer goods, apart from values that are intrinsic. In this study the objective was to deepen the study of parties, given that these are elements provides the establishment of the identity of a group of groups and of each individuals. When it comes to educating people, parties contributed to the emancipation of the human being which is cultural. Was developed a study in the field about the theme parties at the school, to understand whether and how it is being taught in schools, and what is its real importance for teachers and students, since we consider it fundamental to the development of culture and leisure culture of individuals. For this, we conducted a qualitative study based on a field research, using as a tool for collecting a semi-structured interviews with 52 students from 6th grade (7 years) from two schools at Ibitinga-SP, since one of them was a public school and the other a private school. Based on data collected from interviews and analysis, we found that the parties do not happen in schools, students do not learn what is leisure, and do not study or folklore festivals in physical...

There are no studies investigating the role of nutritional status and immunity associated with Jorge Lobo's disease. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of protein-calorie malnutrition on the immune response of BALB/c mice inoculated with Lacazia loboi. In this study, the animals were divided into four groups: G1: inoculated with restricted diet, G2: not inoculated with restricted diet, G3: inoculated with regular diet, G4: not inoculated with regular diet. The animals of groups G1 and G2 were submitted to malnutrition for 20 days and once installed the animals were inoculated intradermally into the footpad. After 4 months, they were euthanised for the isolation of peritoneal lavage cells and removal of the footpad. The production of IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-12, IFN-γ, TNF-α, H2 O2 and nitric oxide (NO) was evaluated in the peritoneal lavage cells. The footpad was evaluated regarding the size of macroscopic lesions, number of fungi and viability index. The results showed that the infection did not exert great influence on the body weight of the mice and previous malnutrition was an unfavourable factor for viability index, number of fungi, macroscopic lesion size in the footpad and production of H2 O2 , NO, IL-12, IL-10 and IFN-γ, suggesting that malnutrition significantly altered fungal activity and peritoneal cells. The results suggest considerable interaction between nutrition and immunity in Jorge Lobo's disease.
