This work investigates the impact of schooling Oil income distribution in statesjregions of Brazil. Using a semi-parametric model, discussed in DiNardo, Fortin & Lemieux (1996), we measure how much income diíferences between the Northeast and Southeast regions- the country's poorest and richest - and between the states of Ceará and São Paulo in those regions - can be explained by differences in schooling leveIs of the resident population. Using data from the National Household Survey (PNAD), we construct counterfactual densities by reweighting the distribution of the poorest region/state by the schooling profile of the richest. We conclude that: (i) more than 50% of the income di:fference is explained by the difference in schooling; (ii) the highest deciles of the income distribution gain more from an increase in schooling, closely approaching the wage distribution of the richest region/state; and (iii) an increase in schooling, holding the wage structure constant, aggravates the wage disparity in the poorest regions/ states.

In the Brazilian political history, the power of the State was always associated to the classes that hold the production means. The state intervention to solve the lacks of the population induced the cooptation of the less favored classes, guaranteeing the continuity of the elites in the power and discouraging initiatives of the bases participation. The citizen participation is one of the analysis dimensions of the public power decision process and it must consist in a key dimension at the identification of solutions for the development. Through the evaluation of a municipal program addressed to the resident population in slums of medium load in Rio de Janeiro - the Programa Favela-Bairro - the study aims to verify, at the present time, if the participation remain an expression of the theoretical speech of the public administration or if it is understood as a social right. It intends to evaluate the mechanisms and the spaces of the communities dialogue with the public municipal managers. The field research consisted of interviews with social actors of the executive and municipal legislative, as well as with members of the organized civil society (inhabitants associations), community leaders and beneficiaries of the program, residents in the slum. The work raises the discussion about the necessary conditions to the public politics produce effective results, in terms of the human satisfaction, and to lead the social subjects to the understanding and learning of the active citizenship and democracy. It also intends to identify an evaluation methodology whose produced knowledge acts in the transformation of the society, reinforcing the critical researcher's paper, whose commitment is to study the reality and to point the roads that lead to the change in the social practice.

The construct Technology Readiness (TR) and its instrument of measure Technology Readiness Index (TRI) defined by Parasuraman (2000), refer to people¿s propensity to adopt digital technological products and services. The TR can be viewed as an overall state of mind resulting from mental drivers and inhibitors related to optimism, innovativeness, discomfort and insecurity. These facets combine into a complex way for produce distinct groups of individuals (explorers, pioneers, skeptics, paranoids and laggards) with different traits of behaviors connected to the adoption of technological products and service. This study had as its objective to evaluate the applicability of the TRI in the Brazilian context, through the replication of the scale on a sample of 336 adults consumers (168 men and 168 women) resident in the state of the Rio de Janeiro, segmented by age groups, educational level and monthly family income. The results show that, in the sample analyzed, as culturally the technology is linked to values of a male society, men presented a higher propensity in adopting technological products and services than women. However, this hypothesis was not confirmed in the analysis segmented by age groups.
