The Yorkville Enquirer collection consists of bound weekly issues of the York County, South Carolina newspaper from 1931, 1933-1935. The newspaper, published in York, S.C., highlights news from all York County and surrounding counties and South Carolina.

The Robert Marett Papers are a valuable resource for researchers, as well as surveyors, in researching the growth and development of the various communities in which he worked. Bob Marett’s work, which includes survey plats (as well as copies of plats from previous surveyors), maps, architectural drawings, field notes, correspondence, copies of deeds, and appointment ledgers are available for researchers and surveyors to peruse. The collection consists of 40, 000 pieces and 124 bound volumes that span from the late 1800s to 1992. The Inventory itself consists of 313 pages and individual plats are searchable by Property Owner as well as by the Date of the Survey.

Of particular interest among the Barnwell Papers is his study of municipal management relative to a council/manager form of government.

The Browne Family Papers consist mainly of incoming correspondence (mainly from the 1840s to the 1850s) of Newton Browne and Jane Morris Browne from various relatives, together with deeds, wills, indentures, land plats, photographs, and various other papers concerning the Browne Family of Anderson County, South Carolina, but also includes information on the allied families of Breazeale, Carpenter, Dobbins, Gunnin, Hillhouse, McFall, McGregor, and Morris.

Included are correspondence, information about the scholarship program, fund raising, and the Lancaster County Educational Foundation, USC-Lancaster publications, promotion and tenure, indoor and outdoor recreation complexes, salary, building plans, committees, Medford Library, public relations, news releases, reports, conferences, expense reimbursement, teaching awards, faculty, newspaper clippings related to USC-Lancaster, and papers relating to teaching. The collection also contains personal papers, papers relating to early education, higher education, the S.C. National Guard, and the S.C House of Representatives, legal documents, various family papers, certificates, photographs, publications, general newspaper clippings, memorabilia, calendars, and various other materials.

The Frances Anderson Gilmer Papers consists of electrostatic photocopies of the following: genealogical records; biographical sketches; Records relating to the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR); copy of the “The Revolutionary Soldiers of Catholic Presbyterian Church of Chester County, South Carolina" by Mary Wylie Strange; Diary of S. T. Anderson: Confederate Prisoner of War 1864-1865 by Margaret Anderson Harden (1908). Lt. Samuel Thompson of Anderson (1838-1894) was a Confederate soldier during the American Civil War in Co. D 1st South Carolina Cavalry. The genealogical records relate to the following families: Anderson, Wylie. McCalla, McKown, Yeamans, Moore (i.e., Governor James Moore) and Adair.

The Juanita H. Neely Papers consist of correspondence, autobiographical and biographical data, speeches, radio talks, clippings, photographs, and articles mainly relating to her work with the South Carolina Home Demonstration Extension Service. There is also family history material relating to the Neely family. This collection is a good source of information concerning the South Carolina Home Economics Extension program in the first half of the twentieth century. While the papers range from 1911 to about 1970, the more valuable and greater part of the collection extends from the mid-1920s to 1957, when Juanita Neely rose from a county home economics extension agent to the State Demonstration Agent. The collection contains many of her speeches, radio talks and articles made during this period; the reference material that she used for her speeches; letters of appreciation from agents and others upon her retirement; and materials relating to the Winthrop-Clemson controversy in 1955 concerning the location of the Home Economics Extension Program. There is also biographical material, award notices, and some correspondence dating after Juanita Neely's retirement from the Home Economics Extension Program. Additional Neely information may be found by referring to the Winthrop Archives, record group 412, and the 1958-1959 edition of Who’s Who of American Women.

The Nolan Pliny Jacobson Papers consists of material on Oriental religions and philosophy and its interaction with the West. The collection is an extremely valuable source on academic life and professional relationships between scholars of the world as well as providing much valuable information on the progress of American philosophy. A wide variety of research topics could be developed from these papers, including the philosophy of eastern countries, science and the modern world, and the history of religion.

This collection consists of Dr. Bryant’s professional and organizational files, biographical data, correspondence, and speeches. Most of the material relates to her publishing efforts, her work as a faculty member at Brooklyn College, and her involvement with professional organizations, especially the New York branch of the American Association of University Women. Most of the material extends form 1950-1975. A list of the more prominent individuals who corresponded with Margaret Bryant has been included as an appendix to the inventory. The Jessie Huey Laurence Papers primarily consist of correspondence, but also included are speeches, program notes, minutes, financial records, photographs, clippings, and scrapbooks relating to her role in the South Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs (1928-1937); her promotion of a compulsory school attendance bill for South Carolina (1934-1936); the formation of the South Carolina Council for the Common Good (1935); Works Progress Administration (WPA) and Public Works Administration (PWA) projects in South Carolina; and her interest in the Catawba Indians of York County, as chairman of Indian Affairs Committee for the Catawba Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Subjects include literacy, Santee-Cooper Dam, Winthrop College, World War II, York County Historical Society, York, Chester, and Lancaster Counties and family history material including: Adams, Craig, Jackson, Lesslie, Lessly, Mull, Muehl, Robinson, Taylor, Weidner, Witherspoon, and Wylie families.

The Robert Lawrence McFadden Papers consist of correspondence, reports, minutes, studies, legislative bills, and acts, amendment copies, financial records, news releases, policy statements, maps and newspaper clippings relating to Mr. McFadden’s career as a member of the S.C. House of Representatives for District #50 of York County. the papers relate to such diverse topics and organizations as the York County Nature Museum, alcohol and drug abuse, the Catawba Regional Planning Council, the death penalty, public education, social services, Winthrop University and York Technical College, rural fire departments, et al. The collection is arranged so that the general correspondence appears first in the collection followed by a subject file arranged alphabetically. A random collection of newspaper clippings closes out the collection. All records are arranged in their respective subject files in general chronological order.

Caldwell Diary consists of a travel account of a trip taken through Switzerland and Germany, describing the terrain, historical sites visited, and the social life customs of the people and offers a glimpse of life in 1850s Switzerland and Germany trough the eyes of an American traveler. The collection includes a transcription of the diary.
