Pietro Bernini (1562-1629) : an investigation of the sculptor in the context of his time

An overview of the career of Pietro Bernini, identifying his style while challenging some interpretations and attributions. The sculptor is evaluated amidst a cultural and artistic circle that includes some hitherto ignored contemporaries. Light is cast upon the early career of his son Gian Lorenzo, the doyen of Baroque art.

The development of visual idioms in the context of abstraction

Argues that innovation in the visual arts can only proceed through recognising the strong and vibrant historical links and traditions. Within the discipline of abstract sculpture there is a strong bond to the past which does not detraditionalise its practice rather, it assists in explaining underlying principles and motivations that are still evolving today.

Story vessels

Twelve sculptors were chosen to research and create a story vessel to represent the stories of the twelve wards of The City of Greater Geelong. I organised the community meetings for nine of the sculptors including myself.  This involved facilitating 27 meetngs.  I then documented and curated the exhibition of the twelve story vessels at three locations (Geelong City Hall, Johnstone Park and Federation Square).  This was part of the project called Connecting Identities in which other artists consulted with other communities to record stories, write and compose songs, poetry and performance art.
