Physarum can form a higher efficient and stronger robust network in the processing of foraging. The vacant-particle model with shrinkage (VP-S model), which captures the relationship between the movement of Physarum and the process of network formation, can construct a network with a good balance between exploration and exploitation. In this paper, the VP-S model is applied to design a transport network. We compare the performance of the network designed based on the VP-S model with the real-world transport network in terms of average path length, network efficiency and topology robustness. Experimental results show that the network designed based on the VP-S model has better performance than the real-world transport network in all measurements. Our study indicates that the Physarum-inspired model can provide useful suggestions to the real-world transport network design.

As the need for social network data publishing continues to increase, how to preserve the privacy of the social network data before publishing is becoming an important and challenging issue. A common approach to address this issue is through anonymization of the social network structure. The problem with altering the structure of the links relationship in social network data is how to balance between the gain of privacy and the loss of information (data utility). In this paper, we address this problem. We propose a utility-aware social network graph anonymization. The approach is based on a new metric that calculates the utility impact of social network link modification. The metric utilizes the shortest path length and the neighborhood overlap as the utility value. The value is then used as a weight factor in preserving structural integrity in the social network graph anonymization. For any modification made to the social network links, the proposed approach guarantees that the distance between vertices in the modified social network stays as close as the original social network graph prior to the modification. Experimental evaluation shows that the proposed metric improves the utility preservation as compared to the number-of-change metric.

The high voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode with a disordered spinel structure is synthesized by a glycine-assisted low-temperature reaction follows by a thermal treatment at 750 °C, 850 °C, and 950 °C for 12 h. Glycine is used as a chelating agent for the first time to build required environment for shaping the precursor of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 materials. The microstructure and morphology of the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 product are characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and transmission electron microscopy. The sample prepares at 750 °C reveals small particles with well-defined crystals as confirmed by electron microscopy. Electrochemical results demonstrate that LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 electrode anneal at 750 °C (compare to other two samples) delivers the highest reversible capacity of 110 mAh g-1 at 0.2C after 100 cycles with good rate capability. The enhanced electrochemical performance could be attributed to the smaller particle sizes as well as well-defined crystals which provide a directional and shorter diffusion path length for Li+ transportation within the crystals.

The spinning geometry of a ring frame plays an important role, and the twist triangle is the critical region in ring spinning. Changes in the spinning geometry may affect yarn properties. This paper examines the idea of ring spinning with a "diagonal" yarn path, and the effect of such a path on yam properties, particularly hairiness. Both "left diagonal" and "right diagonal" yam arrangements are tried on a 24-spindle Cognetex FLC worsted ring frame. The hairiness results obtained from the Zweigle hairiness meter show that the right diagonal yam path produces yams of lower hairiness than the conventional ring spun yarn in almost all the hair length groups. Yam evenness and tenacity are not as sensitive to the change in yarn path. The mean spindle speed at break is also tested, and there is some deterioration in spinning efficiency with the right diagonal yarn path, particularly at higher spinning speeds. Results from this study may help explain variations in yarns spun on poorly aligned ring frames.
