The aim of This study was to investigate the association between menopausal stage and age and women's perception of their body image. Females from a community sample (n = 304. age range from 35 to 65 years) volunteered to complete a structured questionnaire which contained the Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ) and the Stunkard Body Shape Figure Scale. One hundred and twenty women were premenopausal, 76 women were perimenopausal and 108 were postmenopausal. The effects of age and menopausal stage could not be separated in ratings of appearance evaluation, fitness evaluation, current, ideal and societal ratings of the Stunkard Body Shape Figure Scale. Premenopausal women (who were likely to be younger) had more positive ratings of appearance evaluation and fitness evaluation than menopausal women (who were likely to be older). Women who were premenopausal nominated smaller figures from the Stunkard Body Shape Figure Scale for ratings of the current, ideal and societal body shape than women who were perimenopausal and postmenopausal. The implications of these findings as they relate to women as they progress through the menopausal transition and as they become older is discussed.

The six-, eight- and twelve-membered cyclo-siloxanes, cyclo-[R2SiOSi(Ot-Bu)2O]2 (R = Me (1), Ph (2)), cyclo-(t-BuO)2Si(OSiR2)2O (R = Me (3), Ph (4)), cyclo-R2Si[OSi(Ot-Bu)2]2O (R = Me (5), Ph (6)) and cyclo-[(t-BuO)2Si(OSiMe2)2O]2 (3a) were synthesized in high yields by the reaction of (t-BuO)2Si(OH)2 and [(t-BuO)2SiOH]2O with R2SiCl2 and (R2SiCl)2O (R = Me, Ph). Compounds 1 - 6 were characterized by solution and solid-state 29Si NMR spectroscopy, electrospray mass spectrometry and osmometric molecular weight determination. The molecular structure of 4 has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and features a six-membered cyclo-siloxane ring that is essentially planar. The reduction of 1 - 6 with i-Bu2AlH (DIBAL-H) led to the formation of the metastable aluminosiloxane (t-BuO)2Si(OAli-Bu2)2 (7) along with Me2SiH2 and Ph2SiH2.

Juvenile Cherax destructor (commonly called the yabby) (mean weight 48.3 mg) were cultured intensively (stocking density 360/m2) under controlled conditions for 48 days. The animals were provided with a combination of food (high protein pellets and/or natural feed organisms attached to a conditioned synthetic substrate) and refuge. Fastest growth and highest yield was recorded when both pellets and the conditioned synthetic material were provided. Although the yabbies sheltered in the synthetic substrate, it did not increase survival. Juvenile yabbies (< 200 mg) were able to graze on small organisms attached to the synthetic material but this ability appeared to decline as the yabbies grew to a larger size. The use of artificial substrates in the intensive nursery phase production of juvenile freshwater crayfish is discussed.

A version of this article was first presented at the Drama Australia Conference, Fremantle, July 2002. It draws upon Freebody and Luke's four resources literacy framework, where they describe four kinds of literacy  practices. It shows how this model is used within the literacy community and argues that this model is useful to describe the contribution that drama can make to literacy development. Freebody and Luke's model is used and  promoted throughout Australia and the author argues that it is politically astute for drama teachers to reclaim and promote their links to the English/Literacy curriculum.

The syntheses of cyclo-[R2Sn(OPPh2O)2SnR2](O3SCF3)2 (R = Me (1), t-Bu (2)) by the consecutive reaction of R2SnO (R = Me, t-Bu) with triflic acid and diphenylphosphinic acid are presented. In the solid state, 1 and 2 were investigated by 119Sn MAS and 31P MAS NMR spectroscopy as well as X-ray crystallography and appear to exist as ion pairs of cyclo-[R2Sn(OPPh2O)2SnR2]2+ dications and triflate anions. In solution, 1 and 2 are involved in extensive equilibria processes featuring cationic diorganotin(IV) species with Sn-O-P linkages, as evidenced by 119Sn and 31P NMR spectroscopy, electrospray mass spectrometry, and conductivity measurements.

Increasing attention is being given to the legal and governance issues relating to the removal of directors in Australian public companies. This has been due mainly to the difficulties experienced by the board of National Australia Bank in attempting to remove one of its fellow directors, and the subsequent development of public companies entering into so-called 'prenuptial agreements' with new directors, requiring that the director 'resign' if the board pass a vote of no-confidence in the director. In this article, the author revisits the area of director removal in Australian public companies for two reasons. The first reason, which covers the majority of the article, is to engage in a detailed analysis of whether the pre-nuptial agreements which some public companies have indicated that they support using to remove directors, are in fact enforceable under Australia's Corporations Act The second reason is to outline a law reform proposal to enable public companies to remove directors without requiring the vote of shareholders at a general meeting. The proposal involves providing Australia' corporate  regulator, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) with the power to grant relief from the statutory removal provisions to public companies, but in a way which balances the competing objectives of commercial efficiency and shareholder participation and, very importantly, encourages good corporate governance practices by companies in relation to the performance assessment  of directors.

It is in the interests of both shareholders and directors to agree on a set of ground rules for the effective supervision of companies that reconciles the rights of the owners to overall control with the much tougher demands on modern directors

The bis(arylene silanes) p,p'-HMe2SiC6H4EMe2C6H4SiMe2H (E = C (10), Si (11), Ge (12), Sn(13)) were prepared by the in situ Grignard reaction of p,p'-BrC6H4CMe2C6H4Br, Mg turnings, and HSiMe2Cl (for 10) and the Grignard reaction using p-HMe2SiC6H4Br, Mg turnings, and Me2ECl2 (E = Si for 11, Ge for 12, Sn for 13). The oxidation of 10-13 using Pearlman's catalyst, Pd(OH)2/C, in aqueous THF provided the bis(arylene silanols) p,p'-HOMe2SiC6H4EMe2C6H4SiMe2OH (E = C (14), Si (15), Ge (16), Sn(17)). The HCl-catalyzed condensation of 14-17 in highly diluted solutions of acetone/water afforded the siloxane-bridged paracyclophanes cyclo-[p,p'-Me2SiC6H4EMe2C6H4SiMe2O]2 (6-9) that incorporate the group 14 elements E = C, Si, Ge, and Sn. Compounds 6-17 were investigated by multinuclear solution and solid-state NMR spectroscopy and 6 and 9 also by X-ray crystallography.

Background
The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability of stage of change (SOC) measures for moderate-intensity and vigorous physical activity in two separate samples of young adults. Staging measures have focused on vigorous exercise, but current public health guidelines emphasize moderate-intensity activity.
Method
For college students in the USA (n = 105) and in Australia (n = 123), SOC was assessed separately on two occasions for moderate-intensity activity and for vigorous activity. Test–retest repeatability was determined, using Cohen’s kappa coefficient.
Results
In both samples, the reliability scores for the moderate-intensity physical activity staging measure were lower than the scores for the vigorous exercise staging measure. Weighted kappa values for the moderate-intensity staging measure were in the “fair to good” range for both studies (0.50 and 0.45); for the vigorous staging measure kappa values were “excellent” and “fair to good” (0.76 and 0.72).
Conclusions
There is a need to standardize and improve methods for staging moderate-intensity activity, given that such measures are used in public health interventions targeting HEPA (health-enhancing physical activity).

This paper analyses the convergence behaviour of the parallel interference cancellation (PIC) detector in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Using the results from previous stability analysis of an iterated-map neural network, the paper derives a general condition from which the sufficient condition for convergence of the PIC detector with tentative decision functions that are monotonically increasing at a sublinear rate can be calculated. As examples, the paper derives the sufficient conditions for convergence of the PIC detector with the clip decision and the hyperbolic tangent decision functions. The paper also examines the convergence behaviour of the PIC detector with hyperbolic tangent decision function via computer simulation and compares it with the analytical results.

Purpose. This study examined the broader use of a print-media intervention, which was previously shown to be effective at promoting physical activity to participants recruited from a regional Australian community, as a strategy suitable for a more diverse statewide population sample.
Methods. Participants were randomly selected adults who responded to a telephone interview conducted by the New South Wales Health Department and consented to Participate in a randomized controlled trial. Consenters were allocated to either intervention (n = 361) or control (n = 358) conditions. The intervention, a personalized letter plus stage-targeted booklets, was sent 1 week postbaseline. Data were collected via telephone interview at baseline and 2 and 8 months and were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and mean squared statistics.
Results. The groups were similar at baseline (mean age 43 +/- 3 years; 64 % women). Process evaluation showed high intervention recall (76 % at 2 months) and high follow-up response rates (> 85 % at 8 months) were achieved. Nonsignificant increases in physical activity were observed (Fl,719 = 2.18, p = .14).
Discussion. A single mailing of stage-targeted print materials was not effective in promoting increases in physical activity among participants selected from the statewide population. Future research could examine how the effectiveness of print media might be enhanced, possibly by using supplementary media, community-based prompts, or other incentives.

Objective: To ascertain the association between pubertal stage and deliberate self-harm.

Method: Cross-sectional survey of 12- to 15-year-olds in 300 secondary schools in the U.S. state of Washington in February-April 2002 and the Australian state of Victoria in June-August 2002. A total of 3,332 students in grades 7 and 9 provided complete data on episodes of deliberate self-harm in the previous 12 months and pubertal stage. Pubertal stage was assessed with the Pubertal Development Scale.

Results: The prevalence of deliberate self-harm was 3.7% with a more than twofold higher rate in females. Late puberty was associated with a more than fourfold higher rate of self-harm (odds ratio 4.6, 95% confidence interval 1.5-14) after adjustment for age and school grade level. In contrast age had a protective association (odds ratio 0.7, confidence interval 0.4-1.0). The sharpest rises in prevalence across puberty were for self-laceration and self-poisoning in females. Higher rates of depressive symptoms, frequent alcohol use, and initiation of sexual activity largely accounted for the association between self-harm and pubertal stage in multivariate models.

Conclusions: Puberty is associated with changes in the form and frequency of self-harm. For adolescents with a gap between puberty and brain development, risk factors such as early sexual activity and substance abuse may be particularly potent.

This paper presents an innovative email categorization using a serialized multi-stage classification ensembles technique. Many approaches are used in practice for email categorization to control the menace of spam emails in different ways. Content-based email categorization employs filtering techniques using classification algorithms to learn to predict spam e-mails given a corpus of training e-mails. This process achieves a substantial performance with some amount of FP tradeoffs. It has been studied and investigated with different classification algorithms and found that the outputs of the classifiers vary from one classifier to another with same email corpora. In this paper we have proposed a multi-stage classification technique using different popular learning algorithms with an analyser which reduces the FP (false positive) problems substantially and increases classification accuracy compared to similar existing techniques.
