Από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’40 μέχρι τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’70, το κέντρο και τα περίχωρα της Μελβούρνης στέγασαν ένα δυναμικό ελληνικό κινηματογραφικό κύκλωμα τριάντα περίπου διαφορετικών αιθουσών, οι οποίες λειτούργησαν υπό την εποπτεία ενός μικρού αριθμού καθετοποιημένων επιχειρήσεων προβολής/διανομής. Η Dionysos Films ήταν ανάμεσα στις πρώτες ελληνικές εταιρείες προβολής/διανομής που ιδρύθηκαν στην Αυστραλία και που από το 1949 ως το 1956 έδρασε χωρίς σημαντικό ανταγωνισμό, διαμορφώνοντας το πλαίσιο για ένα ελληνικό κινηματογραφικό κύκλωμα της διασποράς που εκτεινόταν από την επαρχιακή και μητροπολιτική Αυστραλία ως τη Νέα Ζηλανδία. Το παρόν άρθρο αναμετρά τη σκιά που έριξε η Dionysos Films (και ο χαρισματικός της ιδιοκτήτης Stathis Raftopoulos) στην ιστορία των κινηματογραφικών εμπειριών των Ελλήνων των Αντιπόδων καθώς και τις επιπτώσεις που έχει αυτή η ανεξερεύνητη πτυχή της αυστραλιανής, αλλά και της ελληνικής κινηματογραφικής ιστορίας, στον τρόπο που αντιλαμβανόμαστε τις εθνικές κινηματογραφίες των δύο χωρών.

This paper presents a new method of designing scalar functional observers of order less than the well-known upper bound (ν - 1). A condition for the existence of observers of order p where 1 ≤ p ≤ (ν - 1) is given. A simple and effective algorithm for solving the constrained generalized Sylvester equation is proposed. Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the attractiveness of the design algorithm.

We report observations of the microstructure of 7 pulsars at 102 MHz with a time resolution of up to 1 μs. We have detected fine pulse structure with a μs time-scale for all seven pulsars. We observe that interstellar scattering does not broaden the μs time-scale pulsar microstructure, and find structure of a time-scale much shorter than the interstellar scatter broadening. In addition to the previously known structure with time-scale τμ of tens of μs, we have detected structures with characteristic time-scale of a few μs, nearly equal to the reciprocal of the analysis bandwidth. This suggests that even shorter micropulses may exist.
Micropulses usually cluster in groups, each of duration tens to hundreds of μs, which may be identified as microstructure observed previously with smaller time resolution.
In addition to the previously known quasi-periodicity of hundreds of milliseconds, we reveal a structures with characteristic period of tens of μs. We observe structures with short quasi-periodicity to have a limited bandwidth. The characteristic period Pμ of these structures in PSR B0950+08 does not have a common value for different frequency regions in the same single pulse.
Scattering was revealed as a train of quasi-periodic micropulses with an exponentially damped envelope. The scatter-broadening and decorrelation bandwidth were measured. We report two time-scales of decorrelation bandwidth of pulsar PSR B0950+08 and propose two branches of Δνd(ν) dependence.
The dispersion measure of PSR B0950+08 as DM= 2.9686 ± 0.0001 pc cm−3 has been determined.

Heat transfer by natural convection in triangular enclosures is an area of significant importance in applications such as the design of greenhouses, attics and solar water heaters. However, given its significance to these areas it has not been widely examined. In this study, the natural convection heat transfer coefficients in an attic shaped enclosure were determined for Grashof Numbers over the range 107 to 109. It was found that the measured heat transfer coefficients could be predicted to within 5% by Ridouane and Campo’ (2005) equation (Eqn. 1) for natural convection in a triangular enclosure previously developed for Grashof Numbers in the range 105 to 106.

As such, it is suggested that this equation may be suitable for predicting the natural convection heat transfer coefficients in full scale attic enclosures.

A study of the room-temperature ionic liquid N-methyl-N-ethylpyrrolidinium dicyanamide by dielectric relaxation spectroscopy over the frequency range 0.2 GHz ≤ ν ≤ 89 GHz has revealed that, in addition to the already known lower frequency processes, there is a broad featureless dielectric loss at higher frequencies. The latter is probably due to the translational (oscillatory) motions of the dipolar ions of the IL relative to each other, with additional contributions from their fast rotation.

In the last two decades, Six Sigma approach has found its success in manufacturing sectors. The relevance of Six Sigma methodologies in service sector has been realised more recently. This paper investigates the application of Six Sigma approach to improve quality in electronic services (e-services) as more and more countries are adopting e-services as a means of providing services to their community and people through the Web. In particular, this paper presents a case study about the use of Six Sigma model to measure the customer satisfaction and quality levels achieved in e-services that were recently launched by public sector organisations in a developing country, such as Jordan. An empirical study consisting of 280 participating customers of Jordan‘s e-services is conducted and the problems are identified through the DMAIC phases of Six Sigma. The service quality levels are measured and analysed using six main criteria, namely, Website Design, Reliability, Responsiveness, Personalization, Information Quality, and System Quality. The overall result of the study indicating a 74% customer satisfaction with a Six Sigma level of 2.12 has enabled the Greater Amman Municipality to identify the usability issues associated with their e-services offered by public sector organisations and to take the leads from the results of the study to improve customer satisfaction. The aim of the paper is not only to implement Six Sigma as a measurement-based strategy for improving e-customer service quality in a newly launched e-service programme, but also to help widen its scope in investigating other service dimensions and perform comparative studies in other developing countries as future research.

Marine microbes are competent organisms, some of which can accumulate large amounts of lipids. A yeast strain, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa AMCQ8A was isolated from the marine water of the Queenscliff region, Victoria, Australia. The yeast isolate was identified by sequencing 18s rDNA genes. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed scars on the surface of the yeast cells. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy microspectroscopy studies demonstrated the presence of unsaturated fatty acids by differential microscopic analysis. The sharp band at 1745 cm-1 was represented by ν(C=O) stretches of ester functional groups from lipids and fats, and therefore indicated the presence of total lipids produced by the cells. Over 65% of the fatty acids from the yeast strain were analyzed as C16 and C18:1 with omega-3 content from about 6% to 7%. Thus, this marine-derived yeast could be a potential source of lipids, including omega-3 fatty acids. 2012, The Society for Biotechnology, Japan. All rights reserved.

The present study discusses the status of quality management practices in manufacturing SMEs in Australia and investigates the reasons why they are not implementing the Six Sigma methodology. This study emphasises that Six Sigma can be implemented in manufacturing SMEs. Moreover, this study identifies the motivation for adopting Six Sigma by Australian manufacturing SMEs. A Six Sigma implementation framework is developed and presented.

Consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD) by rabbits results in increased blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), and renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) within 1 wk. Here, we determined how early this activation occurred and whether it was related to changes in cardiovascular and neural 24-h rhythms. Rabbits were meal-fed a HFD for 3 wks, then a normal-fat diet (NFD) for 1 wk. BP, HR, and RSNA were measured daily in the home cage via implanted telemeters. Baseline BP, HR, and RSNA over 24 h were 71 ± 1 mm Hg, 205 ± 4 beats/min and 7 ± 1 normalized units (nu). The 24-h pattern was entrained to the feeding cycle and values increased from preprandial minimum to postprandial maximum by 4 ± 1 mm Hg, 51 ± 6 beats/min, and 1.6 ± .6 nu each day. Feeding of a HFD markedly diminished the preprandial dip after 2 d (79–125% of control; p < 0.05) and this reduction lasted for 3 wks of HFD. Twenty-four-hour BP, HR, and RSNA concurrently increased by 2%, 18%, and 22%, respectively. Loss of preprandial dipping accounted for all of the BP increase and 50% of the RSNA increase over 3 wks and the 24-h rhythm became entrained to the light-dark cycle. Resumption of a NFD did not alter the BP preprandial dip. Thus, elevated BP induced by a HFD and mediated by increased sympathetic nerve activity results from a reduction in preprandial dipping, from the first day. Increased calories, glucose, insulin, and leptin may account for early changes, whereas long-term loss of dipping may be related to increased sensitivity of sympathetic pathways.

The title compound (Cp*Sn)BPh 4 was obtained by the metathesis reaction of Cp*SnCl with NaBPh4and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction as well as solution and solid-state 119Sn nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The coordination modes are best described as (&nu; 5-C5Me 5)Sn(μ-&nu;6-Ph) 2BPh2.

We present an experimental comparison of several through-space Hetero-nuclear Multiple-Quantum Correlation experiments, which allow the indirect observation of homo-nuclear single- (SQ) or double-quantum (DQ) 14N coherences via spy 1H nuclei. These 1H-{14N} D-HMQC sequences differ not only by the order of 14N coherences evolving during the indirect evolution, t1, but also by the radio-frequency (rf) scheme used to excite and reconvert these coherences under Magic-Angle Spinning (MAS). Here, the SQ coherences are created by the application of center-band frequency-selective pulses, i.e. long and low-power rectangular pulses at the 14N Larmor frequency, &nu;0(14N), whereas the DQ coherences are excited and reconverted using rf irradiation either at &nu;0(14N) or at the 14N overtone frequency, 2&nu;0(14N). The overtone excitation is achieved either by constant frequency rectangular pulses or by frequency-swept pulses, specifically Wide-band, Uniform-Rate, and Smooth-Truncation (WURST) pulse shapes. The present article compares the performances of four different 1H-{14N} D-HMQC sequences, including those with 14N rectangular pulses at &nu;0(14N) for the indirect detection of homo-nuclear (i) 14N SQ or (ii) DQ coherences, as well as their overtone variants using (iii) rectangular or (iv) WURST pulses. The compared properties include: (i) the sensitivity, (ii) the spectral resolution in the 14N dimension, (iii) the rf requirements (power and pulse length), as well as the robustness to (iv) rf offset and (v) MAS frequency instabilities. Such experimental comparisons are carried out for γ-glycine and l-histidine.HCl monohydrate, which contain 14N sites subject to moderate quadrupole interactions. We demonstrate that the optimum choice of the 1H-{14N} D-HMQC method depends on the experimental goal. When the sensitivity and/or the robustness to offset are the major concerns, the D-HMQC sequence allowing the indirect detection of 14N SQ coherences should be employed. Conversely, when the highest resolution and/or adjusted indirect spectral width are needed, overtone experiments are the method of choice. The overtone scheme using WURST pulses results in broader excitation bandwidths than that using rectangular pulses, at the expense of reduced sensitivity. Numerically exact simulations also show that the sensitivity of the overtone 1H-{14N} D-HMQC experiment increases for larger quadrupole interactions.
