Tribological behavior of de-agglomerated and exfoliated active molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets as additives in lithium based grease was investigated. MoS2 nanosheets were prepared by mechano-chemical process in a planetary ball mill with selective organic molecules particularly lecithin (a source of phosphorus (exfoliating/stabilizing agent)) along with antiwear additives (ZDDP). Tribological evolutions show significant influence of MoS2 nanosheets on the friction coefficient, WSD (wear scar diameter) and extreme pressure properties of lithium based grease. The elemental composition analysis of the wear track shows the presence of Mo, S, and P on the surface protective layer, revealing the formation of a tribofilm containing MoS2 nanosheets along with phosphorus based moieties.

Six untrained, male subjects (23 ± 1 years old, 84 ± 5 kg, VO2peak= 3.7 ± 0.8 l min–1) exercised for 60 min at 75 ± 1%VO2peak on 7 consecutive days.  Muscle samples were obtained before the start of cycle exercise training and 24 h after the first and seventh exercise sessions and analysed for citrate synthase activity, glycogen and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT-4) mRNA and protein expression. Exercise training increased (P < 0.05) citrate synthase by ~20% and muscle glycogen concentration by ~40%. GLUT-4 mRNA levels 24 h after the first and seventh exercise sessions were similar to those  measured before the start of exercise training. In contrast, GLUT-4 protein expression was increased after 7 days of exercise training (12.4 ± 1.5 versus 3.4 ± 1.0 arbitray units (a.u.), P < 0.05) and although it tended to be higher 24 h after the first exercise session (6.0 ± 3.0 versus 3.4 ± 1.0 a.u.), this was not significantly different (P= 0.09). These results support the suggestion that the adaptive increase in skeletal muscle GLUT-4 protein expression with short-term exercise training arises from the repeated, transient increases in GLUT-gene transcription following each exercise bout leading to a gradual accumulation of GLUT-4 protein, despite GLUT-4 mRNA returning to basal levels between exercise stimuli.

Interaction of Lamb waves with structural damage can lead to wave mode conversion. In this study, the shear horizontal (SH) wave, from the mode conversion of the fundamental symmetric Lamb wave (S0), was used for quantitative identification of delamination in composite beams, based on advanced signal processing using an inverse approach. SH wave propagation under various delamination conditions in CF/EP beams made of orthotropic plain woven fabrics was simulated, and signal characteristics were extracted in terms of the concept of digital damage fingerprints (DDF). With the aid of an artificial neural algorithm, the relation between the DDF of delamination-scattered SH mode and damage parameters was calibrated, whereby the occurrence, location and size of delamination in the composite beams were assessed. The approach was experimentally validated, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of SH mode for quantitative damage evaluation of composite structures.

It explores the authors’ reflections upon their own professional experiences, research studies and review of the literature as they work towards establishing ‘working with’ leadership practices appropriate for a knowledge era. This paper also reports on Nanschild’s preliminary PhD research findings of “A Values-Based Approach to Leadership Development: Implications for Organisational Change”.

We model and empirically test the link between income inequality and trade liberalization. We consider a society in which a median voter (MV) will make the decision as to whether the country should switch from its current regime of import substitution (IS) (which protects agriculture) to export promotion (EP). Liberalization entails starting importing the agricultural good and specializing in and exporting the manufacturing good. This will require transferring labor to manufacturing. We find that if MV is a worker, the IS-EP switch will take place regardless. If MV is a farmer, the switch will take place given (1) the relative productivity of an ex-farmer and worker in manufacturing,ß is high, and (2) the society’s tastes for agricultural goods, α, are not as strong as those for manufacturing goods. We also find that, following a switch, the income distribution too will improve if α is low and ß is high. In our empirical analysis, we find the endogenous inflection points of α and ß in our sample, at which the direction of change in income distribution alters its sign. Our results also show in a very robust fashion that, EP regimes - on average and with the presence of certain control variables - have better income distributions than IS regimes. This implies that mostly “right” countries have made the switch.

Method involves starting of calibration test for start condition and for calibration definite changes in the parameter are to be adjusted. At least two of the parameters, throttle valve position (2) or load, fuel-air relationship (4), firing angle (5), exhaust gas lead line (6), amount of fuel e.t.c. are to be changed in defined order. The parameters also includes injection pressure, guide blade position of a turbo compressor with variable blade position, valve lift and injecting modulation.

An external control unit (6) is attached on motor control unit (2). By using the external control unit, the control of fresh air and/or fresh charge of air-fuel mixture attachment (3) as well as the control of drive (4), are influenced.

The method involves recording input variables such as accelerator position, as fuel consumption during a test, and forming a neural network with the recorded variables, where the network specifies an output variable such as fuel consumption, after a training phase. The output variable is simulated by the network trained at a real vehicle using a standardized target curve and/or a speed curve. The simulated output variable corresponds to the real vehicle such that the vehicle accurately follows the target curve.

Multiple cylinder internal combustion engine (1) comprises a first lambda probe (11) and a first catalyst (12) arranged in a first exhaust gas pipe (8), a second lambda probe (13) and a second catalyst arranged in a second exhaust gas pipe (9), and a common controlled throttle valve (6) arranged in the inlet region (4) of the cylinders (A-D). Both exhaust gas pipes open into a complete exhaust gas pipe (10). - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a process for partially switching off the multiple cylinder internal combustion engine. Preferred Features: A third catalyst is arranged in the complete exhaust gas pipe or in the second exhaust gas pipe behind the second lambda probe. The controlled throttle valve is an electronically controlled throttle valve.

Air for the internal combustion engine (1) passes through a turbocharger (2,3) compressor (4). The air line (7) downstream of the compressor divides with some air bypassing (9) the intercooler (6) and passing through a control valve (10). There is a sensor (14) downstream of the point where the bypass joins the main air line. - Air is bled off downstream of the sensor to a control module (11). This may return air to the control valve or pass it to the waste gate (13) for the turbine (5). Some of the exhaust gas (8) passes through the turbine and some of it bypasses it (12) through the waste gate.

The method involves having a cylinder liner surrounded by a cooling agent channel where exterior to it an isolation layer is assigned. The isolation layer is within the inner walls of the cooling agent channel so that its exteriors are brought in. The isolation layer is formed with the cooling agent channel as a one piece so that the isolation layer is connected positively with the inner wall of the cooling agent channel. The isolation layer is manufactured at the same time with the cooling agent. The cooling agent channel is directly cast.

The cylinder setting reporting process involves varying the ignition angle and/or the injection angle about a preset angle, so that the machine can be operated in at least two different operating points with different ignition and/or injection angles, using at least one signal to report the reference cylinder setting in at least two points to determine the ignition point and the injection point of this reference cylinder.

The engine is cooled by a rheological fluid which in its passive state has a lower thermal conductivity value than in its activated state. The rheological fluid in its passive state has a thermal conductivity value of about a third with regard to the thermal conductivity value of water, and in its active state has a value of somewhat more than three times the thermal conductivity value of water. The rheological fluid has a base substance of silicone oil and a thermal conductivity value range of 0.2 to 1.88 watts per metre kelvin.

The method involves performing load control of an internal combustion engine by a throttle valve provided in a suction line. An exhaust line is provided at a crankcase and is connected with the suction line. An electronically controllable valve (115) is arranged in the exhaust line to control the exhaust flow of the internal combustion engine depending on the operating condition of the internal combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine for the execution of a crankcase ventilating method.
