This paper describes an automated trimming system of large glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) using an omni-directional wheeled mobile robot (WMR) and its path control method. In trimming GFRP parts, much glass fiber and plastic powder dust occur and it becomes bad visible in environment. It is necessary to correct dead-reckoning errors of the WMR in order to control its moving path. We have discussed an external correction method of the dead-reckoning errors for the WMR using ultrasonic sensor.

A young man stabs a defenceless elderly man to death, and remarks “I’ll lug the guts into the neighbour room.” Martha Grace Duncan has argued that such apparent remorselessness and other forensic features must be interpreted differently in children and young people as compared to adult defendants, because of developmental effects. Professor Duncan discusses a range of fictional as well as real examples in pressing her claim, and also appeals to psychiatric, psychological and psychoanalytic expertise. In order to examine the general validity of her argument, it is hypothesised here that a Duncanian adolescence defense has been presented for Prince Hamlet who, miraculously revived, now stands his trial for murder. It is argued that the “adolescence defense” is unsound in principle and that children and youth (whether or not as superannuated as the Prince of Denmark) should be treated in the same forensic manner as adults. If we respect children and youth, we must respect their autonomy however uncomfortable for us this may be: “So young, my lord, and true.”

The most difficult aspect of teaching editing at a university tutorial is imparting to students a sensitivity to the appropriate relationship between the editor and author and, more particularly, between the editor and the author's work. Students are tempted to see themselves as critics or assessors of the author's work rather than assistants in the writing process. This paper discusses where teaching editing is difficult in a classroom, arguing that such difficulty is a symptom of both problems experienced in the editing profession and limitations of university teaching.

Webcasting, sometimes labeled the "last frontier" or "the next stage of evolution" of the internet era, has been slow in its diffusion in Australia, due to technical constraints related to internet transmission speeds and bandwidth (Morrissey, 2003, cited in Lin, 2004, p. 446). According to Craig Preston, Operations Coordinator for New Media and Digital Services at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (or ABC, a national broadcaster), webcasting in Australia is "pretty dead, really" (c. Preston, personal communication, August 23, 2005). This statement will be examined in this chapter, especially since the Australian Media Guide does not list "web casting" or "streaming" as a category or include the terms among its long list of entries (Gee, 2005)

This paper empirically estimates a murder supply equation for the United States from 1965 to 2001 within a cointegration and error correction framework. Our findings suggest that any support for the deterrence hypothesis is sensitive to the inclusion of variables for the effects of guns and other crimes. In the long run we find that real income and the conditional probability of receiving the death sentence are the main factors explaining variations in the homicide rate. In the short run the aggravated assault rate and robbery rate are the most important determinants of the homicide rate.

Some knowledge of what it means to construct a proof is an extremely important part of mathematics. All mathematics teachers and students should have some exposure to the ideas of proof and proving. This paper deals with the issue of creating proofs in mathematics problems.

Whilst being mindful of the eventual extinction of the legal notion of mineral rights in South Africa upon expiry of the transitional measures in terms of schedule II of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act 28 of 2002 on 30 April 2009, the classification of mineral rights by the supreme court of appeal in the Anglo decision is to be welcomed, even though it is somewhat ironic at this stage. (As to the extinction of the notion of mineral rights, see Badenhorst "Mineral rights : 'year zero cometh?'" 2001 Obiter 119; "Exodus of 'mineral rights' from South African mineral law" 2004 Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law 218.) It will, however, be shown in this discussion that the decision of the supreme court of appeal will extend beyond the statutory transitional period and will also have an impact on rights to minerals or rights to petroleum as created in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (hereafter referred to as the act). For purposes of this discussion, one can simply continue to refer to mineral rights that developed from the common law as "mineral rights", whilst referring to the new rights created in terms of the act as "rights to minerals and petroleum". The present decision only deals with coal as "minerals".
