We report on the synthesis of platinum nanoparticle-reduced graphene oxide (PtNP-rGO) composites and their application as a novel architecture in electrochemical detection of rutin. PtNPs anchored over rGO are synthesized through a facile one-pot synthesis method, where the reduction of GO and in situ generation of PtNPs occurred concurrently. The characterization results of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrate that PtNPs with small particle sizes are dispersed on the rGO matrix. Electrochemical measurements reveal that a PtNP-rGO modified glass carbon electrode (GCE) directly catalyzes rutin oxidation and displays an enhanced current response compared with a bare GCE. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the peak current was linear with rutin concentration in the range of 5 × 10-8 to 1 × 10-5 M with the detection limit of 1 × 10-8 M (S/N = 3) by differential pulse voltammetry. The proposed method was successfully applied to determine rutin in tablet samples with satisfactory results. This journal is

Meta-synthesis refers to a range of approaches by which existing qualitative studies in healthcare can bereviewed and compared. There is increasing use of meta-synthesis to ensure the clinical applicability offindings from qualitative studies, in healthcare generally, and in the creative arts therapies specifically.Qualitative method research can sometimes lack immediate clinical relevance, as such studies usuallyfocus on the experiences of a small number of participants. Additionally, the results are often presented ingreat detail; finely elaborated, and described conceptually. Findings reported in this way can be engaging, and even emotionally compelling, however the utility of these outcomes for clinical practice can belimited. Meta-synthesis of multiple studies aims to ensure that findings from qualitative methods studiescan be more easily, and effectively, applied in health and social care programs. Three approaches to metasynthesisare briefly presented here; meta-ethnography, narrative synthesis, and critical interpretivesynthesis. A procedure for presentation of meta-synthesis reviews is provided.

The two-stage procedure of ball milling and annealing in air represents a prospective method of preparing nanorods of V2O5 with electrochemical properties suitable for the application in lithium-ion batteries. Commercially purchased V2O5 powder is milled in a ball mill as the first step of the synthesis. The as-milled precursor is subsequently annealed in air to produce the morphology of nanorods via solid-state recrystallization. We have recently investigated intermediate stages of the formation of nanorods, and this paper summarizes the synthesis method including the description of the current understanding of the growth mechanism. The obtained V2O5 nanorods have been assessed as an electrode material for both anodes and cathodes of lithium-ion batteries. When used in cathodes, the nanorods demonstrate a better retention of capacity upon cycling than that of the commercially available powder of V2O5. When used in anodes, the performances of nanorods and the reference V2O5 powder are similar to a large extent, which is related to a different operating mechanism of V2O5 in anodes. The experimentally observed capacity of V2O5 nanorods in an anode has stabilized at the level of about 450 mAh/g after few cycles.

This paper presents a novel excitation control design to improve the voltage profile of power distribution networks with distributed generation and induction motor loads. The system is linearised by perturbation technique. Controller is designed using the linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) controller synthesis method. The LQG controller is addressed with norm-bounded uncertainty. The approach considered in this paper is to find the smallest upper bound on the H∞ norm of the uncertain system and to design an optimal controller based on this bound. The design method requires the solution of a linear matrix inequality. The performance of the controller is tested on a benchmark power distribution system. Simulation results show that the proposed controller provides impressive oscillation damping compared to the conventional excitation controller.

This article describes an efficient control-oriented model of a soft robot made of electroactive polymers. The proposed soft robot is constructed from two flexible links and has a multiphysics dynamic model consisting of both an electrochemical and electromechanical model. The electrochemical model is based on a distributed RC line approach, and the electromechanical model, considering the continuum vibration of the robot, is derived based on Hamilton's principle. The governing equation of the soft robot is solved by means of the Rayleigh-Ritz-Meirovitch substructure synthesis method, and the Laplace operator is used to obtain the transfer function of the soft robot as a 2 by 2 multiple-input multiple-output system.

Nanowires represent a new class of ZnO morphologies with many exiting new properties and applications. The research in the synthesis and characterization of ZnO nanowires has received enormous attention in recent years. However, most synthesis methods using vapor deposition process can only produce small amount of sample, mass production has not been achieved yet. Large-quantity production of ZnO nanowires needs to be realized for large-scale property and application studies. One of the promising approaches to the large scale synthesis is a ball-milling and annealing method. This paper first introduces several common synthesis methods of ZnO nanowires and then summarizes the one dimensional nanomaterials produced by the ball milling and annealing method. Finally, some preliminary results of ZnO nanowire synthesis are presented.

A new method to synthesize conducting oxide nanoparticles with low photocatalytic activity was investigated. Initially, the preparation of amorphous ZnO-SnO2 solid solution nanoparticles was studied using a sol-gel technique. It was found that X-ray amorphous nanopowders with low photocatalytic activity were produced when the precipitates were heat treated below 500 °C. However, FT-IR data showed that the sample may not be an oxide semiconductor. A mixture of ZnO and SnO2 crystalline nanoparticles was also produced at 800 °C and found to have much reduced photoactivity than commercial ZnO nanoparticles having a similar specific surface area.

Aluminium nitride (AlN) branched nanostructures with tree shapes and sea urchin shapes are synthesized via a one-step improved DC arc discharge plasma method without any catalyst and template. The branched nanostructures with tree shapes and sea urchin shapes can be easily controlled by the location of collection. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies show that the branches of tree shaped nanostructures grow in a sequence of nanowires, nanomultipeds and nanocombs. The growth mechanisms of these branched nanostructures are discussed in detail. The optical properties of AlN branched nanostructures with tree shapes and sea urchin shapes are investigated.

Background
Realist synthesis is an increasingly popular approach to the review and synthesis of evidence, which focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which an intervention works (or not). There are few published examples of realist synthesis. This paper therefore fills a gap by describing, in detail, the process used for a realist review and synthesis to answer the question 'what interventions and strategies are effective in enabling evidence-informed healthcare?' The strengths and challenges of conducting realist review are also considered.
Methods
The realist approach involves identifying underlying causal mechanisms and exploring how they work under what conditions. The stages of this review included: defining the scope of the review (concept mining and framework formulation); searching for and scrutinising the evidence; extracting and synthesising the evidence; and developing the narrative, including hypotheses.
Results
Based on key terms and concepts related to various interventions to promote evidenceinformed healthcare, we developed an outcome-focused theoretical framework. Questions were tailored for each of four theory/intervention areas within the theoretical framework and were used to guide development of a review and data extraction process. The search for literature within our first theory area, change agency, was executed and the screening procedure resulted in inclusion of 52 papers. Using the questions relevant to this theory area, data were extracted by one reviewer and validated by a second reviewer. Synthesis involved organisation of extracted data into evidence tables, theming and formulation of chains of inference, linking between the chains of inference, and hypothesis formulation. The narrative was developed around the hypotheses generated within the change agency theory area.
Conclusions
Realist synthesis lends itself to the review of complex interventions because it accounts for context as well as outcomes in the process of systematically and transparently synthesising relevant literature. While realist synthesis demands flexible thinking and the ability to deal with complexity, the rewards include the potential for more pragmatic conclusions than alternative approaches to systematic reviewing. A separate publication will report the findings of the review.

A high-energy efficient method is developed for the synthesis of LiFePO4@CNT core-shell nanowire structures. The method consists of two steps: liquid deposition approach to prepare FePO4@CNT core-shell nanowires and solvothermal lithiation to obtain the LiFePO4@CNT core-shell nanowires at a low temperature. The solution phase method can be easily scaled up for commercial application. The performance of the materials produced by this method is evaluated in Li ion batteries. The one-dimensional LiFePO4@CNT nanowires offer a stable and efficient backbone for electron transport. The LiFePO4@CNT core-shell nanowires exhibit a high capacity of 132.8 mAh g-1 at a rate of 0.2C, as well as high rate capability (64.4 mAh g-1 at 20C) for Li ion storage.
