A mobile ad hoc network is a kind of popular self-configuring network, in which multicast routing under the quality of service constraints, is a significant challenge. Many researchers have proved that such problem can be formulated as a NP-complete problem and proposed some swarm-based intelligent algorithms to solve the optimal solution, such as the genetic algorithm (GA), bees algorithm. However, a lower efficiency of local search ability and weak robustness still limit the computational effectiveness. Aiming to those shortcomings, a new hybrid algorithm inspired by the self-organization of Physarum, is proposed in this paper. In our algorithm, an updating scheme based on Physarum network model (PM) is used for improving the crossover operator of traditional GAs, in which the same parts of parent chromosomes are reserved and the new offspring by the PM is generated. In order to estimate the effectiveness of our proposed optimized scheme, some typical genetic algorithms and their updating algorithms (PMGAs) are compared for solving the multicast routing on four different datasets. The simulation experiments show that PMGAs are more efficient than original GAs. More importantly, the PMGAs are more robustness that is very important for solving the multicast routing problem. Moreover, a series of parameter analyses is used to find a set of better setting for realizing the maximal efficiency of our algorithm.

An inverse model is proposed to construct the mathematical relationship between continuous cooling transformation (CCT) kinetics with constant rates and the isothermal one. The kinetic parameters in JMAK equations of isothermal kinetics can be deduced from the experimental CCT kinetics. Furthermore, a generalized model with a new additive rule is developed for predicting the kinetics of nucleation and growth during diffusional phase transformation with arbitrary cooling paths based only on CCT curve. A generalized contribution coefficient is introduced into the new additivity rule to describe the influences of current temperature and cooling rate on the incubation time of nuclei. Finally, then the reliability of the proposed model is validated using dilatometry experiments of a microalloy steel with fully bainitic microstructure based on various cooling routes.

As a non-renewable resource, the rational exploitation of oil has attracted a large amount of attention. Among many methods for enhanced oil recovery, polymer flooding is the most suitable method of chemical flooding for non-marine reservoirs and therefore various modified acrylamide-based copolymers have been studied. In this study, a novel α-aminophosphonic acid-modified hydrophobic associating copolymer was successfully synthesized by copolymerization of acrylamide, acrylic acid, N-allyldodecanamide and 1-(dimethylamino)allylphosphonic acid. The copolymer was characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR and thermogravimetry and exhibited superior water solubility and thickening capability. Subsequently, the shear resistance, temperature resistance and salt tolerance of the copolymer solution were investigated. The value of apparent viscosity retention of a 2000 mg L-1 copolymer solution was as high as 58.55 mPa s at a shear rate of 170 s-1 and remained at 40.20 mPa s at 120 °C. The values of apparent viscosity retention of 55.41 mPa s, 59.95 mPa s and 52.97 mPa s were observed in solutions of 10000 mg L-1 NaCl, 1200 mg L-1 MgCl2, and 1200 mg L-1 CaCl2, respectively. These were better than those of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide under the same conditions. In addition, an increase of up to 14.52% in the oil recovery rate compared with that for water flooding could be achieved in a core flooding test using a 2000 mg L-1 copolymer solution at 65 °C.

Developing a watermarking method that is robust to cropping attack is a challenging task in image watermarking. The moment-based watermarking schemes show good robustness to common signal processing attacks and some geometric attacks but are sensitive to cropping attack. In this paper, we modify the moment-based approach to deal with cropping attack. Firstly, we find the probability density function (PDF) of the pixel value distribution from the original image. Secondly, we reshape and normalize the pdf of the pixel value distribution (PPVD) to form a two dimensional image. Then, the moment invariants are calculated from the PPVD image. Since PPVD is insensitive to cropping, the proposed method is robust to cropping attack. Besides, it also has high robustness against other common attacks. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

BACKGROUND: Functionalized gold nanoparticles are emerging as a promising nanocarrier for target specific delivery of the therapeutic molecules in a cancer cell, as a result it targeted selectively to the cancer cell and minimized the off-target effect. The functionalized nanomaterial (bio conjugate) brings novel functional properties, for example, the high payload of anticancer, antioxidant molecules and selective targeting of the cancer molecular markers. The current study reported the synthesis of multifunctional bioconjugate (GNPs-Pep-A) to target the cancer cell. METHODS: The GNPs-Pep-A conjugate was prepared by functionalization of GNPs with peptide-A (Pro-His-Cys-Lys-Arg-Met; Pep-A) using thioctic acid as a linker molecule. The GNPs-Pep-A was characterized and functional efficacy was tested using Retinoblastoma (RB) cancer model in vitro. RESULTS: The GNPs-Pep-A target the reactive oxygen species (ROS) in RB, Y79, cancer cell more effectively, and bring down the ROS up to 70 % relative to control (untreated cells) in vitro. On the other hand, Pep-A and GNPs showed 40 and 9 % reductions in ROS, respectively, compared to control. The effectiveness of bioconjugate indicates the synergistic effect, due to the coexistence of both organic (Pep-A) and inorganic phase (GNPs) in novel GNPs-Pep-A functional material. In addition to this, it modulates the mRNA expression of antioxidant genes glutathione peroxidase (GPX), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) by two-threefolds as observed. CONCLUSIONS: The effects of GNPs-Pep-A on ROS reduction and regulation of antioxidant genes confirmed that Vitis vinifera L. polyphenol-coated GNPs synergistically improve the radical scavenging properties and enhanced the apoptosis of cancer cell.

.A novel electrochemical sensing platform was developed based on flower-like gold–zinc oxide core–shell nanoparticles and a graphene nanocomposite-modified glassy carbon electrode. The gold–zinc oxide core–shell nanoflowers were synthesized by seed growth and characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. The modified electrode provided good electrocatalytic properties, rapid response, high stability, and favorable reproducibility for determination of ascorbic acid. The performance of the sensor included a linear dynamic range from 1.0 × 10−7 to 6.0 × 10−4 M, a limit of detection of 3.9 × 10−8 M, and a sensitivity of 24.12 µA/mM. The nanocomposite also provided excellent selectivity and lower potential for the oxidation of ascorbic acid. The sensor was used for the determination of ascorbic acid in tablets with satisfactory results. This device provides rapid, simple, and selective determination of ascorbic acid.

To meet the urgent requirement of determining trace Pb2+ and Cd2+ in seawater on site, herein we developed a simple but novel electrochemical method, named as double stripping voltammetry, using only a portable heavy metal analyzer. The proposed method consisted of three steps: First, the targeted heavy metal ions in bulk solution were concentrated onto an ionic liquid-graphite-based paste working electrode (ILGPE), which exhibits a dramatic ability of accumulation, by electrodeposition in the presence of Bi3+. Second, the three-electrode arrangement, including the ILGPE loaded with the reduced products, was transferred into 1.0mL acetate buffer solution, followed by a stripping procedure. Third, the measurement was performed with the other stripping voltammetry procedure by using a glassy carbon electrode as working electrode. Under optimum conditions, the linear range values for Pb2+ and Cd2+ in seawater were 0.2-3.2 μg/L and 0.1-3.2 μg/L, respectively. The concentrations of Pb2+ and Cd2+ in five real samples collected from coastal sites of Qingdao City were determined on site, and the results were in good agreement with that obtained with the atomic absorption spectroscopy method. In addition, the analytical performance of working electrode modified with Bi film by in situ mode was investigated in comparison with that by ex situ mode. The results showed that the in situ mode was much better than the ex situ one.

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether implementation of a new nursing handover model led to improved completion of nursing care activities and documentation. A pre- and post-implementation study, using a survey and document audit, was conducted in a hospital ED in Melbourne. A convenience sample of nurses completed the survey at baseline (n = 67) and post-intervention (n = 59), and the audit was completed at both time points. Results showed significant improvements in several processes: handover in front of the patient (P < 0.001), patients contributed and/or listened to handover discussions (P < 0.001), and provision of adequate information about all patients in the department (P < 0.001). Nurses also reported a reduction in omission of vital signs (P = 0.022) during handover. Three hundred sixty-eight medical records were audited in the two study periods: 173 (pre-intervention) and 195 (post-intervention). Statistically significant improvements in the completion of two nursing care tasks and three documentation items were identified. The findings suggest that implementation of a new handover model improved completion of nursing care activities and documentation, and transfer of important information to nurses on oncoming shifts.
