The study, carried out within an infertility support group, concern disclosure of donor conception and its possible effects upon our constructions of conception, kinship and identity. It also examines perceptions of rights, information and its access or denial, knowledge/power, secrecy and the medicalization of reproduction.

A critical feminist investigation of the sexual politics of contraception over the last hundred years, within an international context. It is contended that the very idea of contraception perpetuates a "heterosexual monoculture of the body" and as a consequence, men can continue to avoid taking responsibility for their "uncontrolled" fertility.

This thesis explores the relationship between the travelling picture shows, the lives of the "Picture Boys" who ran them, and the rural communities of Westland, New Zealand, 1932 to 1956. The shows brought change, as represented by Hollywood, but they also added significantly to social cohesion in the remote communities.

This thesis explores individuals' experiences of cosmetic surgery in Melbourne. The research conducted with recipients of cosmetic surgery is a complex and ambiguous practice simultaneously encompassing pain and pleasure, agency and constraint, empowerment and conformity. By providing a more nuanced representation of people's experiences of such surgery, the thesis envisions a subjectivity that may better account for individuals' active and lived relationship to their bodies.

Describes medicinal use among Anglo-Celtic and Russian Australians. Cultural constructions of medicines are embedded in health beliefs; shaped by experiences with health care within socio-economic and political contexts. Cultural practices of medicinal use are best understood in the context of lay models of rationality and recognition of the conflict existing between the lay and expert models.

The research found that multicultural societies need to acknowledge the importance of online usability as a social justice, access and equity issue. For effective usability, government public access websites need to be informed by the language and cultural needs of the diverse target groups, best realised through a user-centred design methodology. Utilising the thesis' research an accompanying website "The women of Scylla : a digital odyssey" was designed and included via the enclosed CD-ROM.

In the imaginary and reflexive space of video storytelling, one story generates another. As an autobiographical video memoir, Lorne story is fashioned as a hybrid form of postcard and director's video notebook: it examines the stories we tell ourselves, and the stories we tell others - in the presence of video.

This thesis ratifies a tool for assessing affective-cognitive integration and techniques for affective-cognitive integration. It contributes to theories regarding responses to emotions triggering events, humanistic psychology and the field of emotional intelligence and provides a model of the psychology of the integration of affect and cognition.

This thesis explores the effects of Western culture on information about 'Asian-ness' in film. The findings demonstrate that, in the American films, 'Asian-ness' is constructed as being everything that the West is not. Western culture plays an important role in the representation of information about 'Asian-ness'.

This study found that user experience and perceived ease of use are the most important factors in considering the user acceptance of e-Services and that there is no significant relationship between user acceptance and continued use of e-Services. This research investigated responses of grandchildren of Holocaust survivors ("third generation") to Holocaust video-testimony. The analysis revealed that video-testimony can transmit memories of survival experiences to viewers, enabling them to "work through" their positions as witnesses and make active decisions relating to remembrance.

The research consisted of narrative writing and reflective practice to promote the construction of new understandings between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples of Australia. The research findings propose exemplars of knowledge and practice and approaches to learning that are community centred, immersed in social practices and which include systematic narrative formation.
