Aims and objectives
To obtain expert consensus on essential criteria required to assess patient readiness for discharge from the postanaesthetic care unit.

Background
A patient's condition can deteriorate after surgery, and the immediate postoperative period is recognised internationally as a time of increased risk to patient safety. A recent systematic review identified evidence-based assessment criteria for the safe discharge of patients from the postanaesthetic care unit and identified gaps in the evidence.

Design
Descriptive consensus study using the Delphi method.

Methods
Members of international clinical specialist groups with expertise in anaesthesia or postanaesthetic care participated in three consultation rounds. Online surveys were used to determine expert consensus with regard to aspects of postanaesthetic care and specific criteria for assessing patient readiness for discharge. Three rounds of surveys were conducted from May 2011–September 2012.

Results
Twenty-three experts contributed to the panel. Consensus, that is, at least 75% agreement, was reached in regard to 24 criteria considered essential (e.g. respiratory rate 100%; pain 100%; heart rate 95%; temperature 91%). Consensus was also reached for 15 criteria not considered essential (e.g. appetite 96%; headache 76%). Consensus was not obtained for a further 10 criteria. Participants (95%) agreed that a discharge tool was important to ensure safe patient discharge.

Conclusion
Consensus was achieved by a panel of international experts on the use of a tool to assess patient readiness for discharge from postanaesthesia care unit and specific variables to be included or excluded from the tool. Further work is required to develop a tool and test its reliability and validity.

Relevance to clinical practice
The findings of this study have informed the development of an evidence-based tool to be piloted in a subsequent funded study of nursing assessment of patient readiness for discharge from the postanaesthetic care unit.

Deakin University has recently moved to an academic calendar of three trimesters. This change aims to provide students with greater flexibility to plan their study around work or life commitments, create options for students to commence their degree and enable students to fast track their study. It has been found for students in the Bachelor of Construction Management that engagement and satisfaction during summer (Trimester 3) are less than when those same units are delivered during other trimesters. This research addresses the use of Supported Cloud learning to improve learning and the relationship with students. The School of Architecture and Built Environment used two units as case studies to examine different innovative unit delivery strategies that combined cloud and located learning. The research design included evaluation surveys, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews as well as reflection by participating teachers. The findings show that students’ results are improved when the cloud based learning is supported by well-developed resources, structured delivery and availability of some face-to-face contacts. This innovation will serve as a benchmark for Cloud delivery in the School in all trimesters.

 The endless transformation of technological innovation requires greater collaboration of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in various areas especially in public sectors. Many attempts have been made in improving the quality of E-Government services; one of it is adopting the cloud computing technology. Successful implementation of cloud computing technology can benefit the public sector in many ways one of it is cost reduction. Most government organizations especially in the developing countries are committed in adopting the cloud technology based on the increased demands in cloud adoption in E Government services. Unfortunately, despite all the benefits, the cloud computing technology raises some major risks. The success of implementation of cloud computing technology is determined by how well the government tackles the challenges. Therefore, this paper specifically surveyed the associated challenges of adopting Cloud Technology for E-Government by choosing Malaysia as the case study.

The aim of this paper is to analyse and present cloud- link as well as campus-linked students’ perceptions of collaborative learning and design based learning in engineering. Project oriented design based learning (PODBL) is a learning and teaching approach, where students learn through design activities while being driven by project(s). PODBL enhances cloud-linked and campus-linked students’ ability to acquire career essential skills that fulfill future industry needs. A paper-based survey is used to recognise a cohort of students' experience of collaborative learning and design based learning in engineering. The paper-based survey was given to 30 students from an engineering discipline. The quantitative analysis of the survey results shows that more than 50% of the students view collaborative learning to have a large benefit in design-based learning.

The confidentiality of data is one of the most important issues in cloud storage system. We address the privacy issue of decentralized cloud storage system using threshold cryptography. The major challenge of designing this cloud storage system is to provide a better privacy guarantee. To achieve this goal, we propose a threshold encryption scheme and integrate it with a secure decentralized erasure code to form a secure cloud storage system, where the user generates a secret parameter participated in system encryption and decryption of plaintext blocks in the combine process. Our cloud storage system meets the requirements of data robustness and confidentiality.

 This research focused on building Software as a Service clouds to support mammalian genomic applications such as personalized medicine. Outcomes of this research included a Software as a Service cloud framework, the Uncinus research cloud and novel genomic analysis software. Results have been published in high ranking peer-reviewed international journals.

During the 2009/2010 summer, a comprehensive environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the wastewater discharge at Davis Station, East Antarctica was completed. As part of this, histological alteration of gill and liver tissue in Antarctic Rock-cod (Trematomus bernacchii) from four sites along a spatial gradient from the wastewater outfall were assessed. All fish within 800 m of the outfall exhibited significant histological changes in both tissues. Common pathologies observed in fish closest to the outfall include proliferation of epithelial cells with associated secondary lamellar fusion in the gills and multifocal granulomata with inflammation and necrosis as well as cysts in the liver. Fish from sites >800 m from the outfall also exhibited alterations but to a lesser degree, with prevalence and severity decreasing with increasing distance from the outfall. This study highlights the value of histopathological investigations as part of EIAs and provides the first evidence of sub-lethal alteration associated with wastewater discharge in East Antarctica.
