Two main problems prevent the deployment of peer-to-peer application in a wireless sensor network: the index table, which should be distributed stored rather than uses a central server as the director; the unique node identifier, which cannot use the global addresses. This paper presents a multi-level virtual ring (MVR) structure to solve these two problems.

The index table in MVR is distributed stored by using the DHT technique. MVR is constructed decentralized and runs on mobile nodes themselves, requiring no central server or interruption. Naming system in MVR uses natural names rather than global addresses to identify sensor nodes. The MVR can route directly on the name identifiers of the sensor nodes without being aware the location. Some sensor nodes are selected as the backbone nodes by the backbone selection algorithm and are placed on the different levels of the virtual rings. MVR hashes nodes’ identifiers on the virtual ring, and stores them at the backbone nodes. Furthermore, MVR adopts cross-level routing to improve the routing efficiency.

Experiments using ns2 simulator for up to 200 nodes show that the storage and bandwidth requirements of MVR grow slowly with the size of the network. Furthermore, MVR has demonstrated as self-administrating, fault-tolerant, and resilient under the different workloads.

This paper presents the Multi-level Virtual Ring (MVR), a new name routing scheme for sensor networks. MVR uses selection algorithm to identify sensor nodes' virtual level and uses Distribution Hash Table (DHT) to map them to the MVR, The address routing performs well in wired network, but it's not true in sensor network. Because when nodes are moving, the address of the nodes must be changed Further, the address routing needs servers to allocate addresses to nodes. To solve this problem, the name routing is being introduced, such as Virtual Ring Routing (VRR). MVR is a new name routing scheme, which improves the routing performance significantly by introducing the multi-level virtual ring and cross-level routing. Experiments show this embedded name routing is workable and achieves better routing performance.

In order to combine the advantages of both traditional gel electrolytes and polyelectrolytes, a novel polyelectrolyte which incorporates a boroxine ring-containing anion-trapping agent has been explored. Poly(lithium 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate) (PAMPSLi), ethylene carbonate (EC) and tri(methoxyethoxyethoxyethoxy)boroxine (TME3Bx) were combined to prepare various gel systems. The thermal properties and conductivities of these gels have been investigated. A conductivity of 10−3.6 S cm−1 at 20 °C has been achieved in a gel polyelectrolyte system with a molar ratio of [EC]:[TME3Bx]:[Li+]=24:1.7:1. Temperature-dependent NMR measurements indicated that a significant interaction exists between the boroxine ring and the polyelectrolyte.

To improve yarn quality in ring spinning frame, this paper examines transposal spinning with the movable balloon control ring. The left-transposal spinning and the right-transposal spinning were experimented to spin two yarns; after installing the movable balloon control ring, the two methods were respectively used to spin two other yarns again. All the experiments were on the same ring frame and the raw material was wool/polyester blend roving with a ration of 30/70. The main quality indexes of the four yarns were tested and analyzed, including hairiness, tensile property, evenness and usual faults. The results show that the yarn spun by the left-transposal spinning has a better quality than the right-transposal spinning, and after adding the movable balloon control ring, the improvement of yarn hairiness strength and evenness, as well usual faults, is very obvious. So, in the advantage of transposal spinning, the method of installing the movable balloon control ring can improve some deteriorative problems and make yarn quality better. In addition, the method gives new insight into energy efficiency. The research in this field in on the way and the result is in accord with the Low-carbon Economy.

Two main problems prevent the deployment of content delivery in a wireless sensor network: the address, which is widely used in the Internet as the identifier, is meaningless in wireless network, and the routing efficiency is a big concern in wireless sensor network. This paper presents an embedded multi-level ring (MVR) structure to address those two problems. The MVR uses names rather than addresses to identify sensor nodes. The MVR routes packets on the name identifiers without being aware the location. Some sensor nodes are selected as the backbone nodes and are placed on the different levels of the virtual rings. MVR hashes nodes and contents identifiers, and stores them at the backbone nodes. MVR takes the cross-level routing to improve the routing efficiency. Further, MVR is constructed decentralized and runs on the mobile nodes themselves, requiring no central control. Experiments using ns2 simulator for up to 200 nodes show that the storage and bandwidth requirements of MVR grow slowly with the size of the network. Furthermore, MVR has demonstrated as self-administrating, fault-tolerant, and resilient under the different workloads. We also discuss alternative implementation options, and future work.

In this study, a geometrical model was introduced to improve the hair trapping via a surface contacting the yarn-twisting triangle during ring twisting of two single yarns. The fiber-trapping improvement with the contact surface was analyzed theoretically. Then, single Ne 80 ring cotton yarns were used to produce two-ply yarns under different ring-twisting conditions, namely conventional twisting, dry twisting of yarns with a plane surface, wet twisting of yarns with a plane surface, dry twisting of yarns with a grooved surface, and wet twisting of yarns with a grooved surface. Plied yarn properties, including yarn hairiness, strength, and irregularity, were tested. The Student Newman Keuls (SNK) test and variation analysis were also carried out in the SPSS program to study the effect of different contact surfaces on related yarn properties; the significance level was 0.05 for the SNK test and variation analysis. The hairiness of plied yarns was significantly reduced when twisting with the plane or grooved surface, especially for the wet twisting cases. This corresponds well with our model on improving fiber trapping.

In this work, LaMO3 and LaNi0.5M0.5O3 (M = Ni, Co, Fe, Mn and Cr) perovskite oxide electrocatalysts were synthesized by a combined ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-citrate complexation technique and subsequent calcinations at 1000 °C in air. Their powder X-ray diffraction patterns demonstrate the formation of a specific crystalline structure for each composition. The catalytic property of these materials toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was studied in alkaline potassium hydroxide solution using the rotating disk and rotating ring-disk electrode techniques. Carbon is considered to be a crucial additive component because its addition into perovskite oxide leads to optimized ORR current density. For LaMO3 (M = Ni, Co, Fe, Mn and Cr)), in terms of the ORR current densities, the performance is enhanced in the order of LaCrO3, LaFeO3, LaNiO3, LaMnO3, and LaCoO3. For LaNi0.5M0.5O3, the ORR current performance is enhanced in the order of LaNi0.5Fe0.5O3, LaNi0.5Co0.5O3, LaNi0.5Cr0.5O3, and LaNi0.5Mn0.5O3. Overall, LaCoO3 demonstrates the best performance. Most notably, substituting half of the nickel with cobalt, iron, manganese, or chromium translates the ORR to a more positive onset potential, suggesting the beneficial catalytic effect of two transition metal cations with Mn as the most promising candidate. Koutecky–Levich analysis on the ORR current densities of all compositions indicates that the four-electron pathway is favored on these oxides, which are consistent with hydroperoxide ion formation of <2%.

Mass production of nanofibers is crucial in both laboratory research and industry application of nanofibers. In this study, multiple ring spinnerets have been used to generate needleless electrospinning. Multiple polymer jets were produced from the top of each ring in the spinning process, resulting in thin and uniform nanofibers. Production rate of nanofibers increased gradually with the increase of the number of rings in the spinneret. Spinning performance of multiple ring electrospinning, namely the quality and production rate of the as-spun nanofibers, was dependent on experimental parameters like applied voltage and polymer concentration. Electric field analysis of multiple ring showed that high concentrated electric field was formed on the surface of each ring. Fiber diameter together with production rate of needleless electrospinning was dependent on the strength and distribution of the electric field of the spinneret. Needleless electrospinning from multiple ring can be further applied in both laboratory research and industry where large amount of nanofibers must be employed simultaneously. © 2014 The Korean Fiber Society and Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

Pathogens have been hypothesized to play a major role in host diversity and speciation. Susceptibility of hybrid hosts to pathogens is thought to be a common phenomenon that could promote host population divergence and subsequently speciation. However, few studies have tested for pathogen infection across animal hybrid zones while testing for codivergence of the pathogens in the hybridizing host complex. Over 8 y, we studied natural infection by a rapidly evolving single-strand DNA virus, beak and feather diseases virus (BFDV), which infects parrots, exploiting a host-ring species complex (Platycercus elegans) in Australia. We found that host subspecies and their hybrids varied strikingly in both BFDV prevalence and load: both hybrid and phenotypically intermediate subspecies had lower prevalence and load compared with parental subspecies, while controlling for host age, sex, longitude and latitude, as well as temporal effects. We sequenced viral isolates throughout the range, which revealed patterns of genomic variation analogous to Mayr's ring-species hypothesis, to our knowledge for the first time in any host-pathogen system. Viral phylogeny, geographic location, intraspecific host density, and parrot community diversity and composition did not explain the differences in BFDV prevalence or load between subpopulations. Overall, our analyses suggest that functional host responses to infection, or force of infection, differ between subspecies and hybrids. Our findings highlight the role of host hybridization and clines in altering host-pathogen interactions, dynamics that can have important implications for models of speciation with gene flow, and offer insights into how pathogens may adapt to diverging host populations.

The drying of colloidal droplet suspensions is important in many realms of practical application and has sustained the interest of researchers over two decades. The arrangements of polystyrene and silica beads, both of diameter 1 μm, 10% by volume of solid deposited on normal glass (hydrophilic), and silicone (hydrophobic) surfaces evaporated from a suspension volume of 3 μL, were investigated. Doughnut shape depositions were found, imputing the influence of strong central circulation flows that resulted in three general regions. In the central region which had strong particle build-up, the top most layers of particle arrangement was confirmed to be disordered using power spectrum and radial distribution function analysis. On closer examination, this appeared more like frustrated attempts to crystallize into larger grains rather than beads arranging in a disordered fashion throughout the piling process. With an adapted micro-bulldozing operation to progressively remove layers of particles from the heap, we found that the later efforts to crystallize through lateral capillary inter-particle forces were liable to be undone once the particles contacted the disorganized particles underneath, which were formed out of the jamming of fast particles arriving at the surface. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.
