The rationale underlying the fixtures and accession presumptions is the need to protect the value of the chattel as well as the need to protect third-party interests. The destruction of the independent legal status of an attached chattel is generally deemed appropriate where the value of the co-mingled asset will be diminished if the chattel retains a separate legal title and this would generate unfairness because third parties have dealt with the co-mingled asset on the basis of its overall value. Rights to remove have evolved under both common law and equity to moderate the scope of these presumptions. Common law will uphold the right of a tenant to remove chattels that have been attached to leased premises during the currency of the lease. Equity on the other hand will uphold the right to remove affixed chattels in circumstances where the enforcement of such an entitlement is consistent with contractual intention and transactional fairness. This article examines the different rights of removal that have evolved under Australian law to date and the emergent statutory framework supporting these rights. It discusses the historical purpose and structural utility of these entitlements within a land framework that supports fixtures presumptions. Rights of removal, whether validated at law or in equity, confer positive entitlements upon the holder to access and remove affixed goods in circumstances where, because of the fixtures and accession presumptions, those goods no longer retain any separate legal status. The capacity of the holder to enforce this right against third parties is illustrative of their distinctive proprietary perspective.

 This study focused on the performance of nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) in the removal of ametryn. Here, we investigated the effects of the applied pressure and ionic conditions on the removal of ametryn from water. It was found that the adsorption of ametryn onto NF membrane to decrease with the increase in ionic strength. Increased interaction between the NaCl electrolyte and the membrane surface is considered as the reason for the reduction in the adsorption. However, adsorption of ametryn onto the RO membrane did not show any trend. The removal of ametryn by NF and RO found to increase with the increase in the ionic strength. Retention of electrolyte salt (NaCl) on the membrane surface tends to decrease the membrane pore size which in turn increases the removal of ametryn at higher ionic strengths. It was found that up to 92% of ametryn could be removed using RO.

In this study, a functionalized zeolites column was developed to remove ammonia nitrogen with a low concentration (50 mg/L) from aqueous solution. The absorption properties and regeneration capacity were investigated. Through breakthrough and elution curve for dynamic adsorption, we found the wastewater with 50 mg/L ammonia nitrogen took 7 h to flow 10 g modified zeolites column with diameters of 24 to 64 meshes at a flow rate of 2 mL/min. The saturated extent of adsorption was up to 7.95 mg/g, and the saturated adsorption time was 22 h. The process of dynamic adsorption could be fitted by the Thomas Model. The regeneration ability was optimized by 0.1 M Na2CO3 as a regenerant. With excellent absorption ability for removing ammonia nitrogen with a low concentration, the functionalized zeolites could be potentially used a high-performance adsorbent for removing ammonia nitrogen.

A novel recyclable and flexible membrane was prepared for the removal of oil spills and organic dye pollutants, by functionalizing polyester textiles with reduced graphene oxide@ZnO nanocomposites using a layer-by-layer technique. The membrane showed efficient water/oil separation, and the amount of oil adsorbed by the membrane could be up to 23 times its own weight. The adsorption capacity was largely retained during many adsorption recycling cycles. The membrane also displayed highly efficient removal of a dye pollutant from water under simulated sunlight. The membrane maintained a near-original removal efficiency after five cycles of dye removal. This new type of membrane may find practical applications in the large-scale separation of organic pollutants from water, particularly in the field of oil spills clean-up and dye removal from industrial effluent.

Build-up of earwax is a common reason for attendance in primary care. Current practice for earwax removal generally involves the use of a softening agent, followed by irrigation of the ear if required. However, the safety and benefits of the different methods of removal are not known for certain.

Excessive ear wax can lead to symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, itching, vertigo, and pain. Treatment to remove ear wax is generally carried out in primary care, and recent estimates suggest that up to 2 million ear irrigations are performed in England and Wales each year.1 This places a considerable demand on GP surgeries. A range of simple and often inexpensive remedies and proprietary drops can be used either to dissipate the wax orsoften it prior to removal. Although removal through irrigation usually occurs in primary care, some people may self-treat. Treatments offered often appear to be based on custom and local practice, rather than an awareness of the comparative effectiveness and costs of the different alternatives. Although evidence on the efficacy of different treatments has been published, no study has examined both clinical and cost-effectiveness. This report summarises a systematic review and economic evaluation of different approaches to ear wax removal taken from a UK perspective.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of membrane filtration in removing natural organic matters (NOMs) from four different source waters and the subsequent effect that it has on total chlorine (TC) demand of these waters. Source water samples were filtered sequentially through membranes with molecular weight cut-off of 3,500, 1,000 and 200 Da as well as RO membrane. The source waters and sequentially filtered samples were dosed with chlorine and the residual chlorine data were used to estimate the TC demand of these waters. A robust chlorine decay model constructed in AQUASIM software was used to do so. More than 80% of the chlorine demand in untreated surface water sources was found to be contributed mainly by NOMs that were larger than 3,500 Da. However, for water treated by granular filtration, the chlorine demand was found to be contributed by NOMs which were down to 200 Da. Sequential filtration through all four membranes reduced chlorine demand by more than 94% in surface waters and 84% in waters treated by granular filtration. Significant reduction in the formation of trihalomethane can be achieved if water is treated by appropriate membranes after granular media filtration. © 2014 © 2014 Balaban Desalination Publications. A magnetic resin based on cardanol, furfural, and curaua fibers was prepared and characterized. The material could be used in oil-spill cleanup processes, because of its aromatic/aliphatic balance. The resin was prepared through bulk polycondensation of cardanol and furfural in the presence of curaua fibers and maghemite nanoparticles. Hydrophobicity of the curaua fibers was improved by acetylation, increasing the oil-absorbing capability of the composites. The obtained magnetic composites were studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis. Degree of cure, magnetic force, and oil-removal capability tests were also performed. The results show that the composites possess an elevated cure degree in addition to a considerable magnetic force. The materials exhibit a good oil removal capability in the presence of a magnetic field, which is improved by the use of acetylated curaua. In the best case, the composite filled with maghemite and curaua can remove 12 parts of oil from water.
