Learning and memory for verbal and visual information was compared in children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) of Combined Type and Predominantly Inattentive Type. Compared to a typically developing group, the ADHD groups were found to have unique difficulties. These findings add to the current research knowledge.

Hysteresis energy decreased significantly as nanocrystalline NiTi shape memory alloy was under triangular cyclic nanoindentation loadings at high rate. Jagged curves evidenced discrete stress relaxations. With a large recovery state of maximum deformation in each cycle, this behavior concluded in several nucleation sites of phase transformation in stressed bulk. Additionally, the higher initial propagation velocity of interface and thermal activation volume, and higher levels of phase transition stress in subsequent cycles explained the monotonic decreasing trend of dissipated energy. In contrast, the dissipated energy showed an opposite increasing trend during triangular cyclic loadings at a low rate and 60âsec holding time after each unloading stage. Due to the isothermal loading rate and the holding time, a major part of the released latent heat was transferred during the cyclic loading resulting in an unchanged phase transition stress. This fact with the reorientation phenomenon explained the monotonic increasing trend of hysteresis energy.

Introduction and Aims
Regulatory and collaborative intervention strategies have been developed to reduce the harms associated with alcohol consumption on licensed venues around the world, but there remains little research evidence regarding their comparative effectiveness. This paper describes concurrent changes in the number of night-time injury-related hospital emergency department presentations in two cities that implemented either a collaborative voluntary approach to reducing harms associated with licensed premises (Geelong) or a regulatory approach (Newcastle).

Design and Methods

This paper reports findings from Dealing with Alcohol-Related problems in the Night-Time Economy project. Data were drawn from injury-specific International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision codes for injuries (S and T codes) presenting during high-alcohol risk times (midnight—5.59 am, Saturday and Sunday mornings) at the emergency departments in Geelong Hospital and Newcastle (John Hunter Hospital and the Calvary Mater Hospital), before and after the introduction of licensing conditions between the years of 2005 and 2011. Time-series, seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average analyses were conducted on the data obtained from patients' medical records.

Results

Significant reductions in injury-related presentations during high-alcohol risk times were found for Newcastle since the imposition of regulatory licensing conditions (344 attendances per year, P < 0.001). None of the interventions deployed in Geelong (e.g. identification scanners, police operations, radio networks or closed-circuit television) were associated with reductions in emergency department presentations.

Discussion and Conclusions

The data suggest that mandatory interventions based on trading hours restrictions were associated with reduced emergency department injury presentations in high-alcohol hours than voluntary interventions. An electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) study of the microstructure of TRIP steel during fatigue failure. Phase and crystal orientation study of a TRIP steel subjected to cyclic load induced fatigue. The relative fractions of austenite, ferrite and martensite are quantified within the strain field of a fatigue crack tip. This data is a subset of data supporting a wider study of the fatigue properties of multiphase steels used in the automotive industry. The different microstructural phases present in these steels can influence the strain life and cyclic stabilized strength of the material due to the way in which these phases accommodate the applied cyclic strain. Fully reversed strain-controlled low-cycle fatigue tests have been used to determine the mechanical fatigue performance of a dual-phase (DP) 590 and transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) 780 steel, with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EBSD) used to examine the deformed microstructures .

A shift to prefer more masculine male faces when conception risk is high may be an adaptation for finding mates with good disease resistance. We investigated whether preferences for other facial cues to long-term health also increase when conception is likely. We examined preferences for the faces of men with good health histories and for facial averageness and symmetry, two putative indicators of health during development. Preferences were tested at two points in the menstrual cycle that differed maximally in conception risk. No cyclic changes in preferences were found. We consider implications for the sexual selection of variation in preferences across the menstrual cycle.
