The influence of pre-straining and bake-hardening on the mechanical properties of thermomechanically processed 0.2C-1.5Si-1.5Mn-0.2Mo-0.004Nb (wt%) steel was analysed using tensile test, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atom probe tomography (APT). This steel after processing had high strength (~1200MPa) and good ductility (~20%) due to the formation of fully bainitic microstructure with nano-layers of bainitic ferrite and retained austenite. The bake hardening (BH) of pre-strained (PS) samples increased the yield strength of steel up to 690MPa and showed the bake-hardening response of 220MPa due to the operation of several strengthening mechanisms such as transformation induced plasticity during pre-straining and pinning the dislocations by carbon during bake-hardening treatment. The carbon content of the bainitic ferrite and retained austenite before and after bake-hardening treatment, the solute distribution between these phases and the local composition of fine Fe-C clusters and particles formed during bake-hardening treatment was calculated using APT. The bainitic ferrite and retained austenite microstructural characteristics such as thickness of the layers and their dislocation density before and after bake-hardening treatment were studied using TEM.

Based on n-value differential equation and microstructural observation, strain hardening behaviors of FBDP, TRIP, and TWIP steels during uniaxial tension were investigated. TRIP steel exhibits both superior strength and ductility than FBDP steel, and TWIP steel displays much higher total and uniform elongations in comparison to FBDP and TRIP steels. The instantaneous n values of FBDP and TRIP steels increase at small strains, reach a maximum value, smoothly decrease at higher strains, and then rapidly drop up to the specimen rupture. The strain hardening of TRIP steel persists at higher strains where that of FBDP steel begins to diminish. TWIP steel exhibits gradually increased instantaneous n values over the whole uniform plastic deformation, implying that TWIP steel shows a much larger strain hardening capability than FBDP and TRIP steels.

Anisotropic silver nanoparticles were assembled on cotton fibers to realize the coloration of cotton. The assembly of silver nanoparticles on fibers was achieved by linking of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) at room temperature. The silver nanoparticle treated cotton showed different colors because of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) property of silver nanoparticles. The coloration was completed through electrostatic interaction between the PDDA treated cotton surface and the anisotropic silver nanoparticles in the reaction system. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterization demonstrated that the morphologies of silver nanoparticles remained unchanged during the coloration process, so the treated cotton inherited the LSPR optical features of silver nanoparticles. Moreover, the cotton colorated with silver nanoparticles showed reasonably good color fastness to washing, which will facilitate the practical application of this coloration process.

Our goal is to automatically determine the cast of a feature-length film. This is challenging because the cast size is not known, with appearance changes of faces caused by extrinsic imaging factors (illumination, pose, expression) often greater than due to differing identities. The main contribution of this paper is an algorithm for clustering over face appearance manifolds. Specifically: (i) we develop a novel algorithm for exploiting coherence of dissimilarities between manifolds, (ii) we show how to estimate the optimal dataset-specific discriminant manifold starting from a generic one, and (iii) we describe a fully automatic, practical system based on the proposed algorithm. The performance of the system is evaluated on well-known featurelength films and situation comedies on which it is shown to produce good results.
